Justin Fields “good” says Ryan Day after injury scare against Penn State

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said that quarterback Justin Fields is “good” after an injury scare late in the 4th quarter vs. Penn State.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields finally got to feel what it’s like to play four quarters in a college football game. It didn’t look that way early on with Ohio State getting out to a 21-0 lead early in the third quarter, but some mistakes allowed Penn State back in the game.

So, Fields stayed in to finish the deal and lead the Buckeyes to a hard fought and resilient 28-17 win in front of a sold out Ohio Stadium crowd.

It wasn’t without a scare though. That same crowd that was noisy and boisterous all day became as quiet as over 100,000 fans can when Fields went down in a heap after a hard tackle by Penn State late in the game. At the time, the Buckeyes were leading 28-17 and went for it on 4th and five with just 2:17 remaining in the game.

The crowd came to its senses once again with applause when Fields sprung up and jogged a little under his own power. This all after being checked on by the medical staff for a couple of minutes with some pretty astronomical goals still hanging in the balance.

After the game, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day was asked about the injury and how Fields is doing. It should also be noted that the Buckeye signal-caller did come back into the game to take the final knee.

Day said that Fields was “good,” and went on to equate him to a warrior and said he had “a heart of a lion.”

More like ripped the heart of a (Penn State) lion out.

Ohio State can ill-afford to lose Fields if it has designs of continuing this special journey the team has been on. Not when a trip to Ann Arbor, Indianapolis and beyond is next along the way.

Sorry Michigan fans, it looks like No. 1 will be slinging it around next week in the Big House.

Watch: Sam Ehlinger somehow slips out of would-be safety and throws for a first down

Sam Ehlinger is a mad man. As Texas trails by one score to Baylor in the second quarter, the Longhorns’ offense is in desperate need of a spark. Fortunately, Sam Ehlinger has delivered those time after time. Here, as Texas is backed up into their endzone, Baylor sends heat on a delayed blitz but can’t take down the Longhorns’ QB. Ehlinger slips out of the tackle and delivers a strike through the hit to Malcolm Epps for the first down.

A win here against the Bears gives Texas something to build on going forward and represents some movement in the right direction after a season that has not gone according to plan. HereΒ is everything you need to know to watch, listen, or stream the game.

Georgia vs TAMU: Jake Fromm hits George Pickens for game’s first touchdown

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm hits UGA WR George Pickens for a TD vs Texas A&M.

After an ugly first 20 minutes of football in the Georgia vs Texas A&M game, Jake Fromm and the Bulldogs’ offense were finally able to put together a drive that resulted in a touchdown.

Fromm had struggled all first half until eventually he hit Tyler Simmons on the sideline for a 27 yard gain on a back shoulder pass. The next play, Fromm hit Kearis Jackson on the same play but to the other sideline for a gain of 22.

Next thing we knew, Fromm had the Bulldogs offense in the red zone, where he was able to hit freshman George Pickens for a 16 yard touchdown.

Longhorns’ coach Tom Herman gets his team pumped ahead of key matchup with Baylor

On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns are taking on the Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas. This is another big game for the Longhorns, who are looking to close out a disappointing season on a high note. Baylor is currently the class of the Big 12, and controls its own destiny. A win here against the Bears gives Texas something to build on going forward and represents some movement in the right direction after a season that has not gone according to plan.

Longhorns’ coach Tom Herman knows how big of a game this is more than anyone. Check out coach Herman doing everything he can to get his team psyched, even if it is at the risk of brain injury:

Ohio State beats Penn State: 5 things we learned

It wasn’t pretty, but Ohio State fought through some weather and turnovers to beat Penn State. Here’s five things we learned.

It may not have gone exactly as Ohio State would have liked, but it’s still a W in the win column. There were some uncharacteristic turnovers, a little rain and wind, and some key penalties that kept Penn State in the game, but in the end the Buckeyes did what they needed to stay undefeated.

With it, Ohio State clinches the outright Big Ten East title and will head to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game for the third straight year. It doesn’t even matter what happens against Michigan next week, at least for all those things to happen.

But more on that later.

Here’s five things we learned about Ohio State in a 28-17 victory over a top ten Penn State team.

It took a lot for Penn State to even be in the game

With all due respect to Penn State, Ohio State was clearly the better and more talented team. It took three turnovers, some uncharacteristic penalties, and almost every single replay review going the way of the Nittany Lions to even keep this thing in shouting distance.

OSU outgained PSU 417 yards to 227, ran all over a Penn State defense that was one of the best in the country, yet this thing was still a game into the fourth quarter. That’s because Justin Fields fumbled twice, J.K. Dobbins dropped it on the turf once, and some bounces and plays went the other way.

Frankly, Ohio State is probably at least three touchdowns better on any other day. But, credit the Nittany Lions for clawing and fighting in this one.

Carlin Fils-aime to redshirt and return in 2020

Tennessee senior Carlin Fils-aime will redshirt for the 2019 season.

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee senior Carlin Fils-aime will redshirt for the 2019 season.

Fils-aime will return to the Volunteers as a fifth-year senior in 2020.

β€œIt just makes a lot of sense,” Pruitt said of Fils-aime redshirting. β€œThe guy probably was ready about when we played Georgia – the fifth week of the year. He played in a few games a little bit there. He had a pretty significant injury.

“For him, gives him a great opportunity.”

The Naples, Fla. native has played in three games this season and 33 total contests for the Vols since 2016.

Fils-aime has spent time at running back and cornerback during his career at Tennessee. The 5-foot-11, 198-pound senior has totaled 309 rushing yards on 52 attempts and has scored five touchdowns on the ground. He has also recorded four receptions for 18 yards, while totaling five tackles.

Ohio State beats Penn State, clinches Big Ten East, spot in Indy

The Ohio State football team made a lot of mistakes against Penn State, but were still able to win and clinch the Big Ten East.

It was billed as a big time game with a ton of things on the line. It was true, and now Ohio State gets the spoils of the victors.

With an unusual and quirky kind of 28-17 victory, the Buckeyes have clinched the Big Ten East, a spot in Indianapolis, and keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

Perhaps for the first time, Ohio State faced some adversity. It turned the ball over more than it would have liked, had far too many penalties, but still won while not playing its best game against a top ten opponent.

Ohio State had more issues moving the ball than it has in previous games, but still managed to lead going into halftime 14-0 thanks to the running of running back J.K. Dobbins and Justin Fields.

Penn State pushed back though after OSU went up 21-0 early in the third quarter. A lot of it had to do with some charitable contributions from the Buckeye offense that ended up fumbling the ball three times.

Behind a backup quarterback, the Nittany Lions got as close as 21-17 before the OSU defense clamped down and wouldn’t allow much else going forward.

At the end of the day, it took a bunch of mistakes and things going against Ohio State for a top ten Penn State team to even be in the game. If that’s not the hallmark of a team worthy of a No. 1 ranking, what is?

Alabama-Western Carolina: Postgame report

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts with a finals score of 66-3 to improve to 10-1 on the 2019 regular season.

This game was a true test of the Alabama offense without Tua Tagovailoa on the field.

Redshirt-Sophomore quarterback Mac Jones stepped up big time in place of Tagovailoa, completing 10 of 12 pass attempts for 275 yards and three touchdowns, all while not turning the ball over.

The freshman younger brother of Tua, Taulia Tagovailoa, also got to take some snaps at quarterback.

He completed two of three pass attempts for a single touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The passing attack turned out to be the most successful method of production as the Alabama offense totaled 310 yards and four touchdowns.

Devonta Smith continues to shine in his Junior season and make a strong case for being a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, today he reeled in four receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

Jaylen Waddle also got in on the action as he had three catches for 101 yards and a single touchdown that highlighted his breakaway speed along the sideline.

The running game also proved to be effective as Najee Harris had 14 carries for 66 yards, one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown.

While Harris remains the star of the Alabama backfield, a young face made a strong appearance late in the game.

Freshman Keilan Robinson had eight carries for 92 yards and a touchdown in his brief appearance against the Catamounts.

The defense had another impressive outing as they were able to bring in four interceptions, two a piece for Xavier McKinney and Jared Mayden.

Overall, Western Carolina’s offense was held to 179 yards, 112 in the air and 67 on the ground.

This was a game many anticipated Alabama would walk away with a win, but the true test will be n the Crimson Tide’s final regular season game of the year as they’ll travel to Auburn and take on the Tigers, a game that will have some hefty playoff implications.

Game Recap: Michigan State, Cody White torch Rutgers 27-0

Michigan State football trampled Rutgers 27-0 in an impressive performance. Here is a game recap with all the details you need.

Michigan State Football demolished Rutgers in a 27-0 shutout today. Before this victory, the Spartans were on a five-game losing streak. Michigan State was sluggish and sloppy in the first half. Then, in the second half, Cody White exploded in an impressive showing.

Here is a recap of this game:

First Half

The Spartans offense lacked urgency early on in this game. MSU’s offense moved the chains but failed to score on their first drive. On the other hand, the defense showed up to play. Yet again, the Spartan’s defense did not allow a touchdown on the opening drive. Sure, this is against Rutger’s offense, but, we can still marvel at this accomplishment.

Next, Michigan State’s offense continued to move downfield. A high snap almost forced a turnover but Brian Lewerke did not fumble. This set up a third and long which is rather intimidating for this offensive unit. Luckily, Lewerke threw a nice touchdown pass to Cody White.

Later, the offense failed to capitalize on a nice drive. Instead, they settled for a field goal. This brought the first quarter to a close as Michigan State lead Rutgers 10-0.

Rutger’s defense came out hot in the second quarter. Lewerke was sacked and this set up a third and long. MSU then went three and out. Sophomore Safety Xavier Henderson stepped up with a beautiful interception. Unfortunately, the Spartans failed to convert this into a touchdown and settled for a field goal. This time, Matt Coghlin missed the field goal kick. This sequence can sum up the entire year for MSU.

Late in the second quarter, the Spartans ran a two-minute drill. Play after play, Lewerke hit Cody White for big gains. Eventually, Lewerke threw another, crisp touchdown pass to White on a seam route.

Second Half

Rutgers started the second half with plenty of offensive movement. Their run game yielded more success in the first three minutes of the second half than the entire first half. No worries, the Spartans did not give up any points on this Rutger’s drive. Instead, Kenny Willekes sacked QB Johnny Langan.

Michigan State put in AJ Arcuri at LT for their first drive of the half. MSU managed to move the chains forward for a first down. Lewerke found White on yet another impressive deep ball, but, this play went under review. Eventually, the referees determined the play was an incomplete pass.

Next thing you know, this drive turned into a disaster. Lewerke tried to hit White again in the endzone but White could not control the ball. Instead, Rutger’s defense snatched the ball away for an interception.

Early in the fourth quarter, Josiah Scott forced a fumble and gave Michigan State a favorable field position. Unlike earlier, the Spartans capitalized on this key turnover with an amazing touchdown. Lewerke overthrew a ball to White but it did not matter. White managed to snag the ball and fell into the endzone for a touchdown and a 27-0 lead.

Cody White ended the game with 11 receptions, 136 yards, and three touchdown catches. QB Brian Lewerke ended the game with 239 yards on 21/30 attempts with three touchdowns and one interception.

Michigan State football takes on Maryland next week on Saturday, Nov. 30. This game starts at 3:30 P.M.
