5-stars: The best and worst of Ohio State football’s loss to Michigan in ‘The Game’

Another year of agony for Ohio State…

For the third straight season, Ohio State football couldn’t find a way past its bitter rival Michigan, losing in the Big House, 30-24.

It was a heartbreaking loss, one in which the Buckeyes had chances but couldn’t capitalize on opportunities. There were mistakes all over the field; the biggest two were interceptions thrown by quarterback Kyle McCord.

As I do following all Ohio State games, I look back at who played well and who didn’t. For the first time all season, there was so much more bad than good.

Find out below who played the best, five-stars, and the worst, one-star, during Ohio State’s gut-wrenching loss to Michigan.

Ohio State vs. Michigan: Five things we learned in defeat

The sad tale. Here’s five things we learned. #GoBucks #TheGame

The 118th installment of “The Game” was another good one that could have gone either way, but, unfortunately, was colored Maize and Blue for the third straight year.

Ohio State did enough to be in position to win but couldn’t pull it out because of miscues and bad breaks. It’s hard to really call this one a classic because the Wolverines never trailed in the game and seemed more or less in control, but the game was still there for the taking at the end.

As we do with every game, we reflect and try to pull out some observations and things we learned. Here is the sad tale in this massive rivalry game, and five things we think we learned after the 30-24 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Fox ‘Big Noon Kickoff’ crew picks winners of Ohio State vs. Michigan in ‘The Game’

Here’s who the Fox Big Noon Kickoff crew picked to win between Ohio State and Michigan. #GoBucks #The Game

It’s big game day Ohio State fans, and it’s one of the biggest in the history of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, not only because of where each team is in the standings and rankings, but because of all of the off-the-field stuff swirling around the Wolverines.

You know it’s a big one when both the ESPN “College GameDay” crew and Fox “Big Noon Kickoff” show is on site in Ann Arbor to take it all in.

Buckeye Nation has one of its own on the set of the Fox crew in former head coach Urban Meyer, and we always like to keep track of the picks he and his colleagues make in the biggest of games.

Here’s how all of the members of the Fox crew picked to win in the 118th edition of “The Game” on Saturday.

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ picks winner of Ohio State at Michigan

Do you agree with GameDay’s pick for “The Game”?

The regular season end is here, which mean’s another edition of “The Game” pitting No. 2 Ohio State at No. 3 Michigan.

The top-three matchup will bring plenty of eyes, but also brought with it the ESPN “College GameDay” to Ann Arbor. The normal crew of Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso (welcome back) and Desmond Howard were joined by former Wolverine defensive end and shoe untier, Aidan Hutchinson.

The five selected multiple games from the college football slate, but the only one that matters is who wins between the Buckeyes and Wolverines. Find out below who each analyst along with guest picker Hutchinson selected to win “The Game.”

Ohio State football issues availability report for Michigan game, key players revealed

Ohio State football issues availability report for Michigan game. #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Michigan Wolverines and a meaningful linebacker returns to the starting lineup.

Tommy Eichenberg returns to the starting lineup after an injury that kept him out the last two weeks. There was some dispute that Eichenberg could have played last week, but was held out due to the competition and getting ready for “The Game”

The Buckeyes look to be relatively healthy and ready to go against an undefeated Michigan squad, except for obvious starter, Lathan Ransom, but he has been out for a few weeks now and has already been reported as possibly missing the remainder of the season. The following is the released injury report:

UNAVAILABLE

  • WR Kojo Antwi
  • WR Kyion Grayes
  • DL Jason Moore
  • S Lathan Ransom
  • DL Will Smith

Time for our predictions for the big one between Ohio State and Michigan. #GoBucks #TheGame

It’s that time of the week again, but this one is much bigger. Every week, the day or so before the next Ohio State football game, we have our writers provide a score prediction and short commentary on who will win between the Buckeyes and opponents.

Of course, the contest this week is against Michigan, and both sides would love to win this matchup, not only because it’s one of the best rivalries in all of sports, but because of all that’s been swirling around the sign-stealing allegations and rumors between both programs.

But enough about all of the buildup, there’s been plenty of that from us and other sites out there. We’re here to provide score predictions and some rationale for why each of our five writers believe things will play out as we predict with all the Big Ten and College Football Playoff implications on the line.

I’ll get us rolling, then our other four writers will fall in line and probably disagree with me on this one.

Five keys for Ohio State to defeat Michigan in ‘The Game’

Aside from scoring more points, what are your keys for a Buckeye victory? #GoBucks

Ohio State football will travel to Ann Arbor to face its bitter rival Michigan on Saturday afternoon, a game that has not just Big Ten implications, but national ones as well.

The winner will most likely win the conference along with getting a berth in the College Football Playoff. The loser is out of the conference picture, along with hanging on by a string to compete for a championship.

There is so much on the line for both teams, but for Ohio State there is potential redemption for the last two seasons as well. Here are five keys for the Buckeyes to right the ship and get back to their winning ways in “The Game.”

Call Woody Hayes’ home phone number and hear inspirational speech

Call Woody to hear the legendary coach pump you up before the Michigan game. #GoBucks!

None are more revered in Ohio State lore than legendary head coach Wayne Woodrow Hayes.

Woody led the Buckeyes from 1951-1978, winning 276 games including five national championships. Coach Hayes was known for his fiery personality and for helping bring the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry to new levels.

Woody passed away in 1987, but his legacy lives on. Someone decided long ago to do something unique to help keep that legacy alive by keeping the coach’s home phone number active. You can actually give the old 614 number a call and hear a message from Hayes himself.

Go ahead and give it a try. Call 614-488-1910 to hear from Woody himself. We did give the number a call and can confirm this is real, however, be warned some have said they get an “all circuits are busy” message due to a high call volume. But keep trying and you’ll eventually hear the legendary voice.

Five reasons Ohio State beats Michigan in ‘The Game’ Saturday

Here are five reasons to believe Ohio State can correct the universe in ‘The Game’ on Saturday. #GoBucks #TheGame

OK. Here we go. We’re less than 24 hours away from arguably the biggest game in the history of the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry. There have been some with a little more buzz than this one (see 2006), but none may have more story lines and national implications than what we’ll see unfold in the Big House up in Ann Arbor on Saturday at high Noon.

OSU is the higher ranked team at No. 2 vs. Michigan’s No. 3 ranking, but the Wolverines are coming off of two-straight blowout wins over the Buckeyes the last two years and are favored by Vegas and the ESPN Matchup Predictor to take care of business once again.

There all kinds of ways we can dissect this thing, and reasons to believe both the Buckeyes and Wolverines can either win or lose this massive collision in the Midwest, but if you’ve followed us at all this week, we like Ohio State’s chances.

Here are five reasons we believe Ohio State can pull off the mild upset over Michigan on Saturday,
