Giants vs. Patriots: 5 things to watch

The New York Giants will open their preseason against the New England Patriots and here are five things (among many) to watch.

The New York Giants head up to Foxborough this Thursday night to open the 2022 preseason against the New England Patriots.

Although the preseason is largely considered a waste of time by many seeking answers and insight, this year could be different as the Giants embark on a new era.

Here are five things to watch in Week 1 of the preseason.

Wan’Dale Robinson excited over potential of Giants’ dynamic offense

New York Giants rookie Wan’Dale Robinson has high hopes for the team’s dynamic offense and hints that more wrinkles may be coming.

When the New York Giants selected Kentucky wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson in the second round of this year’s NFL draft, few knew what to make of it.

After one week of training camp, the plan for a diminutive ‘gadget’ player is coming more into focus. Robinson has excelled thus far in camp as a receiver, displaying an outstanding ability to get separation and weave his way through defenders.

But his value, it seems, will not end there. In drills this week, Robinson also lined up in the backfield as a running back along with wide receiver Kadarius Toney and running back Saquon Barkley. He was not surprised.

“I figured that would be a little bit a part of the plan but again, wherever (Brian Daboll) and (Mike) Kafka want me to line up, I’ll be more than happy to line up whether that’s running back, inside slot receiver, or outside receiver,” Robinson told reporters.

Robinson believes the Giants will do whatever it takes to get him and the other playmakers on the offense the football in space.

“I think it could be pretty exciting,” he said. “We’ll see the stuff that they come up with, and whenever game time comes, I’m sure you’ll be happy to see it.”

One thing we haven’t seen yet is Robinson attempt a pass. He laughed a bit when asked by reporters if he could throw.

“Hey, you’re going to have to see. We can’t give anything out right now,” Robinson added.

The rookie is still learning his place, and the Giants are still figuring that out as well. One thing is for sure, he’s down with whatever plans they have for him.

“I’m just trying to go out there every day and prove that they drafted me for a reason. I’m just trying to do everything that I can to help our team win in whatever aspect, whether that’s running the ball, catching the ball, I’m just willing to do so,” Robinson said.

Fantasy football training camp roundup: July 29-Aug. 2

The most important fantasy football news updates from camp.

Too busy to sift through all of the news from NFL training camps? Here’s a spin around the league for a look at the most notable fantasy football news through Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Giants training camp: What to watch for as padded practices return

The New York Giants will practice in pads for the first time on Monday, so here are several things to keep an eye on.

The New York Giants’ 2022 training camp gets into full swing on Monday when the players practice in full pads for the first time under head coach Brian Daboll.

Here are four things to watch for as the action gets real out at Giants camp.

Giants training camp: 10 takeaways from Day 3

The New York Giants have concluded Day 3 of their training camp practices and here are 10 quick takeaways.

The New York Giants were back on the field for their third day of training camp practices on Friday and have just one more to go before a scheduled day off on Sunday.

Head coach Brian Daboll kicked things off with a press conference recapping the first two days and setting the stage for what lay ahead.

Here are 10 quick takeaways from Friday’s two-hour practice.

Giants training camp: 10 takeaways from Day 2

Day 2 of New York Giants training camp practice has come and gone, so here are 10 quick takeaways.

After a successful first day of training camp practice on Wednesday, the New York Giants were back at it again on Thursday. This time, they focused on areas outside of the red zone (although red zone drills were again included).

Head coach Brian Daboll met with reporters before practice started and then it was off to the races.

Here’s a look at 10 quick takeaways from Day 2 of training camp practice.

Kentucky’s Will Levis: Giants love Wan’Dale Robinson

Kentucky QB Will Levis, who has been a common mock to the New York Giants, says the team “loves” rookie WR Wan’Dale Robinson.

The New York Giants appear to have found a gem in rookie wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson.

Robinson, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has become an instant favorite of the Giants’ staff after an impressive spring. Many think that he will already be WR3 over Darius Slayton (with Sterling Shepard recovering from injury).

Kentucky’s Will Levis, who was Robinson’s college quarterback, concurs.

“I talked to Wan’Dale recently and he’s doing well and he’s a dog. They love him over there. I think it’s going to be a pretty seamless transition for him at the NFL and I’m pumped to see what he can do,” Levis said, via 247Sports.

The Giants, a team that has struggled to put points on the board, would benefit greatly from a strong rookie production for Robinson. If the Kentucky alum can come in and lighten the load from Daniel Jones maybe the team can turn things around and compete for a playoff spot.

However, if this change does not happen, Levis himself is a candidate to be the next Giants quarterback. Many early mock drafts have the Giants picking the Kentucky quarterback in the top 10 of the 2023 NFL draft.

Levis broke out last year as he threw for 2,826 yards and 24 touchdowns against a tough SEC schedule. If he can continue this improvement he will surely find himself selected early and on an NFL roster come 2023.

New York Giants second round pick, wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, has been signed to a deal that will guarantee him more money than players taken in his spot have gotten in the past.

Robinson was selected 43rd overall, and his deal is much more lucrative than the Giants’ second round pick last year — linebacker Azeez Ojulari.

Ojulari, taken 50th overall, signed a four-year, $6,774,908 deal which included a $2,287,208 signing bonus with $3,255,158 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,693,727.

Second and third round picks — also know as Day 2 selections — are becoming more and more valuable each year. It is rare that teams surrender these picks in trades these days unless in blockbuster-type deals.

2022 Giants training camp preview: Wide receivers

The New York Giants have a deep and talented group of wide receivers but there are still many questions and concerns.

The New York Giants wide receivers group is currently a huge question mark at the moment. Injuries, inconsistency and a poor offensive game plan plagued the unit lat season.

This year, with a new approach on offense under first-year head coach Brian Daboll and coordinator Mike Kafka, the air is said to be clear again to throw the football.

The unit has a new position coach in Mike Groh, who will try to marshal up this once promising group.

Here is a quick preview heading into training camp.

Giants sign pair of picks from 2022 NFL draft class

The New York Giants have signed two members of their 2022 NFL draft class to rookie contracts

The New York Giants have signed two members of their class from the 2022 NFL draft, as wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and safety Dane Belton both signed their rookie deals Monday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news, which the team confirmed later in the day.

Robinson, a second-round pick out of Kentucky, gives the Giants another undersized-but-explosive weapon for Daniel Jones and the offense. Belton, a fourth-rounder out of Iowa, adds depth and youth to a secondary in need of replacing some experience, following the departure of veteran cornerback James Bradberry.

With the signings, the Giants now have their entire 2022 draft class under contract before training camp.
