Titans promote C.J. Board to active roster among 4 moves

The Titans have also placed DB Lonnie Johnson on injured reserve.

The Tennessee Titans have made four moves ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on “Thursday Night Football”.

The team announced it has placed defensive back Lonnie Johnson on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Taking his spot on the roster is wide receiver C.J. Board, who has been promoted from the practice squad.

Board made his Titans debut last week and served as the team’s punt returner. He had a few nice returns and downed one of Ryan Stonehouse’s punts at the five-yard line.

In addition to those moves, the Titans are elevating defensive backs Greg Mabin and Davontae Harris from the practice squad for Week 11.

Harris joined the team this week, while Mabin is a familiar face after having played in five games for the Titans in 2021.

Tennessee and Green Bay will kickoff from Lambeau field at 8:15 p.m. EDT. You can check out all the viewing and listening information below.

Titans add C.J. Board to practice squad, release Josh Gordon

The Titans have added C.J. Board to their practice squad and released Josh Gordon.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of moves on their practice squad on the Monday ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

The team announced it has signed former New York Giants wide receiver C.J. Board to their practice squad. He’ll take the place of wide receiver Josh Gordon, who has been released from the practice squad.

Board broke into the league with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 but has spent the last two seasons with the Giants.

Board reeled in 15 receptions for 152 scoreless yards during his two-year stint in Big Blue, while also fielding three punts (13 yards per) and 13 kickoffs (25.2 yards per).

The Chattanooga product was released by the Giants back in September but was able to latch on with the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad before being released once again last week.

Gordon’s brief tenure in Nashville ends without a sound. The veteran played in two games for the Titans but only saw one target, 24 snaps, and didn’t record any stats.

The writing was on the wall that Gordon was likely done in Nashville after he wasn’t elevated for the Week 5 game, with Tennessee going with disappointing wideout and 2021 fourth-round pick, Dez Fitzpatrick, instead.

Tennessee is hoping to get back wide receiver Racey McMath off injured reserve this week, but his status is very much up in the air. Board could very well see playing time as soon as Sunday if McMath doesn’t return.

Giants sign WR Marcus Johnson to practice squad

The New York Giants have signed veteran WR Marcus Johnson to their practice squad and released WR C.J. Board.

The New York Giants will continue tinkering with their roster and practice squad on Tuesday, adding veteran wide receiver Marcus Johnson to the reserve unit.

Johnson will earn the veteran max deal for practice squad players.

The 28-year-old Johnson originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2016. At the time, current Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown was serving as their assistant director of pro scouting.

After two seasons in Philly, Johnson made stints with the Seattle Seahawks (2018), Indianapolis Colts (2018-2020), Tennessee Titans (2020-2021) and, most recently, the San Francisco 49ers (2022).

While with the Eagles and Colts, Johnson also spent time with current Giants wide receivers coach Mike Groh.

In 41 career games (12 starts), Johnson has hauled in 51 receptions for 839 yards and three touchdowns. He also has experience returning kickoffs (11 for 216 yards).

In order to clear room for Johnson, the Giants released wide receiver C.J. Board from the practice squad.

Giants have several uncharacteristic special teams issues that need fixing

During a down era for the organization, the New York Giants special teams unit has played well but inconsistency is beginning to creep in.

The New York Giants have had little to crow about the past has-decade or so, but the one area in which they have prided themselves in is special teams.

Guided by coordinator Thomas McGaughey, the Giants’ special teams unit has been among the league’s best. But this summer, things have not been going as swimmingly as in years past.

On Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals in their second preseason game, the ‘teams’ had several uncharacteristic breakdowns.

They allowed a 73-yard kickoff return to running back Chris Evans, a play in which placekicker Graham Gano suffered a concussion attempting to tackle Evans.

Returner C.J. Board fumbled a kickoff return after taking a hard hit. The Bengals recovered and Board left the game with injured ribs.

There’s not much upside to the performance of the special teams but there were some encouraging signs. Punter Jamie Gillan filled in for Gano without a hitch, slamming a 31-yard field goal, an extra point and two of his three kickoffs for touchbacks,

Defensive back Julian Love continued to display his increasing versatility filling in for Gillan as the holder on kicks.

Alex Bachman not only was the star of the game on offense, he made a key tackle on a late fourth quarter kickoff and ran back a punt for 11 yards.

The inconsistency of the ‘teams’ is perhaps a result of all of the injuries the team has been experiencing this summer. As McGaughey has told us consistently over the years, he does not know from game to game who he will have available to work with. That has been increasing prevalent this summer. It is something that should improve once the team cuts it’s roster down to 53 players next week.

The New York Giants rallied late to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals, 25-22, in Week 2 of the preseason on Sunday night. It improved their exhibition record to 2-0.

Here are six notable takeaways from Big Blue’s latest victory.

Giants defeat Bengals: Winners, losers and those in between

Here are the winners, losers and those in between from the New York Giants’ preseason Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

After a solid showing against the New England Patriots in Week 1 of the preseason, the New York Giants were back at it on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Already down 18 players due to injury, the Giants quickly inflated that total. There were several notable injuries throughout the game, including to rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Back on the field, New York’s reserves struggled against the Cincinnati Bengals initially, but rebounded strong and closed things out on another Davis Webb comeback.

Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux exits Bengals game with knee injury

New York Giants rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux left Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a knee injury.

The last thing the New York Giants needed on Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals were more injuries. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what they got.

Already down 18 players, rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered an apparent knee injury in the second quarter.

Thibodeaux was cut-blocked and immediately went down grasping his knee. The cart came out but the rookie waived it off before limping off the field and into the medical tent.

Dirty block? You be the judge.

The good news is that when Thibodeaux exited the medical tent, he no longer appeared to be limping and was even laughing and smiling. However, the team quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

In addition to Thibodeaux, wide receiver C.J. Board also exited the game and was ruled out with a rib injury.

Giants release unofficial depth chart: 7 takeaways

The New York Giants have released their unofficial depth chart and here are seven notable takeaways.

The New York Giants released their unofficial depth chart ahead of Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.

It’s important to note that these early-preseason depth charts mean very little. They’re more about giving fans a structure and information so that they’re able to follow along throughout the course of the game.

Still, they do provide a slight indication into who is leading what training camp battle. And while they are obviously subject to change, they generate quite a bit of attention.

Here are seven quick takeaways from the Giants’ unofficial depth chart.

2022 Giants training camp preview: Wide receivers

The New York Giants have a deep and talented group of wide receivers but there are still many questions and concerns.

The New York Giants wide receivers group is currently a huge question mark at the moment. Injuries, inconsistency and a poor offensive game plan plagued the unit lat season.

This year, with a new approach on offense under first-year head coach Brian Daboll and coordinator Mike Kafka, the air is said to be clear again to throw the football.

The unit has a new position coach in Mike Groh, who will try to marshal up this once promising group.

Here is a quick preview heading into training camp.

2022 Giants free agency: Contract details for new players

A breakdown of the contracts the New York Giants have handed out to free agents, as well as details of restructures and pay cuts.

The New York Giants and general manager Joe Schoen entered the new league year and free agency with very little money to spend. The idea was to clear upwards of $40 million in salary cap space while hunting for bargains on the open market.

Through a week and a half, the Giants have fared relatively well. They’ve been unable to trade either cornerback James Bradberry or running back Saquon Barkley, but they’ve found other ways to clear room.

New York has also added a number of new contracts, including multiple offensive linemen. But only one of them was a big-ish money signing.

Here’s a quick look at the basic contracts for all new signees, as well as some information on restructures and pay cuts.

Note: New details will be added as they become available.
