Walter Grant, Outside Linebacker (#13):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-4

Weight: 245 pounds

Hometown: Cairo, Georgia

High School: Cairo High School

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker/defensive end Walter Grant came to Athens as a four-star recruit. Grant has played in 41 games over his three season career at the University of Georgia.

Walter Grant has 37 tackles and 1.5 sacks throughout his career. He’s racked up 5.5 tackles for a loss as well.

Grant played running back and defense in high school for Cairo. He played running back during Georgia’s spring drills last season, but never played offense during a game.

Grant will be a part of Georgia’s stacked linebacker core. The Dawgs have Jermaine Johnson, Azeez Ojulari, Adam Anderson, Nolan Smith, Robert Beal, and more returning at outside linebacker. Grant is a key special teams player for the Bulldogs as well.

Projected 2020 Georgia football depth chart: Linebackers

We project what Georgia’s line-backing core will look like in 2020 after a record breaking year for the Bulldogs defense in 2019.

The 2019 Georgia defense might have been the best in program history. The Bulldogs finished the season ranked No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 3 in total defense and only allowed two rushing touchdowns all year.

The Georgia defense in 2020 will look a little different, mainly because of the departures of safety J.R. Reed and linebacker Tae Crowder to the NFL. However, Georgia returns a majority of starters from the record-setting unit in 2019, led by coach Kirby Smart and one of the most experienced linebackers in the SEC, Monty Rice.

Here is our projection of what the linebacker depth chart will look like in the Fall:

Watch: Georgia LB injured after dirty play from LSU

The LSU Tigers committed a dirty play against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

UGA linebacker Walter Grant was injured on the opening kickoff of the second half after an LSU special teams player made helmet to helmet contact from the blindside.

While Grant was recovering on the field, officials reviewed the play, realizing that LSU had committed targeting and leading to the ejection of the player.

Grant is currently being evaluated in the locker room after the incredibly dirty hit.

A few plays later, freshman DB Tyrique Stevenson went down with an injury, becoming Georgia’s sixth player this game to go down.
