Alabama LB Trezmen Marshall declares for 2024 NFL draft

On Friday morning, Alabama linebacker Trezmen Marshall announced that he was declaring for the 2024 NFL draft.

Alabama linebacker Trezmen Marshall announced his intentions to declare for the 2024 NFL draft on Friday morning. Marshall made the news official via his Instagram account.

Marshall, a Georgia native, transferred to Alabama last offseason from Georgia. He spent four seasons with the Bulldogs before deciding to transfer to the Crimson Tide following the 2022-2023 season.

In one season at Alabama, Marshall played in all 14 games. He registered 56 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.

Marshall played both the WILL linebacker position and MIKE linebacker position this past season on Alabama’s defense. He was a valuable addition for the Crimson Tide. Marshall provided veteran leadership and experience to Alabama’s linebacker room.

Projecting which Alabama players will turn pro and which players will return to school

When the season comes to an end, several Alabama players will have to decide whether to go pro or return to school. See who we predict to declare and come back.

Every year, the Alabama football program has roster turnover. Some players elect to enter the NFL draft. Others either elect to return to school or enter the transfer portal.

For upperclassmen, the usual option is to go pro or return to school. In the past, multiple players have increased their stock by returning to Alabama instead of declaring early. Several that come to mind are Reuben Foster, Rashaan Evans, and Najee Harris. Several who entered the draft early and likely would have benefitted from coming back were Adrian Hubbard, Saivion Smith, and Deionte Thompson.

With Alabama’s season ending in less than a month, a handful of players will be tasked with making critical decisions for their future.

Roll Tide Wire projects which Alabama players will turn pro and which players will choose to return to school.

Nick Saban provides update on two injuries suffered in Week 7

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban provides key injury updates after Week 7.

In Week 7, Alabama defeated Arkansas 24-21 to improve to 6-1 on the season. Despite Alabama’s record in conference play remaining unscaved, that was not the case for several players.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke with the media following the win on Saturday afternoon. Saban had the following to say about the injury statuses of starting linebacker Trezmen Marshall and starting tight end CJ Dippre:

“I don’t think they’re badly hurt. One guy has a pulled muscle. The other guy’s got bruised ribs. I can’t tell you the extent of those injuries”

Clearly, Saban did not clarify as to which player suffered which injury. However, he did sound hopeful that both would be able to return sooner rather than later.

Marshall has been a key piece to Alabama’s defense this season. Through the first seven games of the season, he has tallied 40 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

As for Dippre, he has contributed more as a run-blocker than a pass-catcher. Nonetheless, he has reeled in five receptions for 104 yards on the season.

It will be interesting to hear more information on each of their statuses heading into Alabama’s Week 8 matchup versus Tennessee.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program.

Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 17 days

We are now just 17 days away from the start of Alabama’s 2023 football season!

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2023 college football season in 17 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until Nick Saban and his team take the field.

With 17 days remaining, we will take a look at one of the most electrifying players in Alabama football history, [autotag]Jaylen Waddle[/autotag].

Waddle was a start for the Tide from 2018-20 where he accumulated 2,016 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns. Waddle would another 947 yards and three touchdowns on punt and kick returns.

Waddle is now considered one of the top receivers in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

Linebacker Trezmen Marshall and receiver Isaiah Bond currently wear No. 17 for the Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban ‘happy with the group’ he has at inside linebacker

Nick Saban ‘happy with the group’ he has at inside linebacker!

One of the more interesting position battles that are taking place this fall in Tuscaloosa is at inside linebacker. Both Henry To’oTo’o and Jaylen Moody are gone from last season, leaving defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and linebackers coach Robert Bala searching for the next great pair to lead the middle of the Alabama defense.

Following the Crimson Tide’s first practice of the fall, head coach Nick Saban took time to field some questions from the media. For obvious reasons, Saban was asked about the inside linebackers and Saban was quick to voice that he feels good about the group.

“I’m happy with the group. Deontae Lawson played really good football when he played last year. He was injured a lot of the time. He sat out the spring, got his knee worked on a little bit. He’s had a good summer. He’s got leadership. He’s got a good understanding of the defense.

“Jihaad Campbell has made really good progress. We’ve got lots of competition at the position. I’m pleased with the way these guys are progressing. They’ve made a tremendous amount of progress. We’ve had a lot of guys out in the spring that – both outside ‘backers, one inside ‘backer – so it gave guys a lot of opportunity to get a lot of reps there. So we’ve got those guys back, we’ve got a little bit of leadership and I like the experience that we have in the group.”

Saban mentioned two names when asked about the group. Obviously, Lawson is likely to be one of the starters at inside linebacker. The redshirt sophomore played a lot of snaps in 2022 and like Saban mentioned, when healthy, Lawson is a very good player.

The second name mentioned by Saban was second-year player Jihaad Campbell. Campbell spent most of his freshman season in 2022 learning the position after mostly being an edge rusher in high school. Campbell has all-world athleticism and if he has finally figured out the position, Alabama could have a dynamic inside linebacker duo in 2023.

Outside of Lawson and Campbell, the Crimson Tide has plenty of options. Georgia transfer Trezmen Marshall is an experienced and athletic linebacker and Justin Jefferson makes his way to Tuscaloosa from junior college and has elite closing speed for an inside linebacker.

Saban’s comments on the position are very telling. He likes what he sees and is confident in the group to make plays this fall.

Transfer Portal: How Alabama’s portal additions fit in with the Tide

A closer look at Alabama football’s transfer portal additions!

Like it or not, the transfer portal has consumed college athletics. The portal seems to be in a constant state of disorder and confusion and this chaos has turned into the new normal for all of those involved.

Even for a program with deep roots and consistent excellence like Nick Saban has built at Alabama, the transfer portal does not discriminate and it has had its effects on the Crimson Tide.

Since the end of the 2022 regular season, Alabama has had a total of 16 scholarship players enter the portal. On the flip side, the Crimson Tide has brought in a total of five players from out of the portal.

With all of the roster turnover, I thought it would be a good time to quickly go over each addition that Alabama has made this offseason from the transfer portal!

Enjoy!

Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s inside linebackers

Projecting Alabama football’s inside linebacker depth chart post-spring!

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

We have already taken a look at the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive line, defensive line, and outside linebackers. As we quickly move along the defensive side, let’s take a look at the inside linebackers.

Trio of Alabama football newcomers selected as Student-Athletes of the Week

Trio of Alabama newcomers earn the honor of Student-Athletes of the Week!

Nick Saban and the Alabama football are entering their second week of spring football practice and Tide fans are foaming at the mouth for some football-related content.

On Monday, the Crimson Tide released this week’s recipients of the Student-Athletes of the Week! A trio of newcomers earned the honor this week, freshman tight end Ty Lockwood, freshman quarterback Dylan Lonergan, and Georgia transfer linebacker Trezmen Marshall.

Both Lockwood and Lonergan are expected to provide depth this season and most likely redshirt while Marshall is in a prime position to take over one of the starting inside linebacker roles in the Kevin Steele defense.

Congratulations to these three newcomers to the Crimson Tide!

Position Breakdown: Alabama’s ILB’s ahead of spring practice

A deep dive into the Alabama inside linebacker room ahead of spring practice.

We are now just a couple of weeks out from [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team taking the practice field to begin spring ball.

As is the case each offseason, there are many questions that need to be answered before the Tide hit the field to start the 2023 season.

As spring practice creeps closer, we are going to break down each position group on both sides of the ball. We have already looked at the quarterbacks, running backs, defensive line, tight ends, and outside linebackers.

Today we will direct our attention to the inside linebacker room which will be replacing a ton of experience here in 2023.

Let’s dive right in!

Georgia LB Nolan Smith compliments Trezmen Marshall for doing things the ‘right way’

Former Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith offered high praise for Alabama’s newest LB, Trezmen Marshall

Former Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith was complimentary of the decisions that new Alabama linebacker Trezmen Marshall made in his time in Athens.

Smith was critical of student-athletes taking the lesser way out when it comes to transferring to different programs. “Some guys I wouldn’t say take the easy way out, but when things don’t go their way, especially like in life now, guys transfer,” Smith said.

However, he was very outgoing about his former roommate and teammate which was Marshall. Smith commended Marshall for handling things in the best way possible.

“I know certain times, guys have been in the program for a long time,” Smith said of Marshall. “He’s been in there for four years. He got his degree. He only has one more year. I feel like he did it the right way.”

Marshall will be a graduate senior at Alabama this upcoming season. He will provide depth and experience to an inexperienced linebacker room. His impact on special teams and at linebacker will be crucial to Alabama’s success on the defensive side of the ball.

After being injury-riddled for the majority of his college career, Marshall will look to capitalize on this new opportunity that the Alabama coaching staff has given him.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program.
