Former Georgia OLB has chance to win third straight championship

Former UGA football outside linebacker has a chance to win a third straight championship after winning national titles in 2021 and 2022

Former Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Robert Beal has a chance to win a third straight championship in Super Bowl 58. Beal won national championships with Georgia football during the 2021 and 2022 college football seasons. Now, he will have a chance to win a title with the San Francisco 49ers following the 2023 NFL regular season.

Beal is having a solid rookie season for the 49ers, who will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Beal was the No. 173 pick in the 2023 NFL draft (fifth-round). The 49ers really valued his ability to quickly accelerate following the snap.

Beal is one of five former Georgia Bulldogs set to play in the Super Bowl. San Fransisco 49ers tight end Charlie Woerner and wide receiver Chris Conley are the former Dawgs representing the NFC in the Super Bowl. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman and defensive end Malik Herring are former Bulldogs representing the AFC.

Robert Beal probably won’t see many snaps in the Super Bowl. Beal recorded five tackles and a sack as a rookie. He saw most of his action late in the season, but has not played much in the postseason.

49ers 2023 rookie report card is mostly useless at halfway point

The #49ers rookie report card is … bare.

The 49ers didn’t pick until late in the third round of the 2023 draft. It didn’t seem like a big deal considering they still walked away with a nine-player class that had a chance to fill a couple of key needs.

There was never a realistic possibility the 49ers’ rookie class had a wide swath of contributors. However, the early returns from that group can’t even be labeled as “not promising” because the reality is a vast majority of the players haven’t had any chance to make a real contribution.

We went through the rookie class and dished out “grades” for their first half performances. It won’t take long to notice a pattern:

San Francisco 49ers place former Georgia DL on IR

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Robert Beal is expected to miss several weeks with a hamstring injury

The San Francisco 49ers have placed former Georgia football pass rusher Robert Beal in injured reserve. Beal has been battling a hamstring injury and will miss at least the first four weeks of the 2023 NFL season.

Niners Wire notes the corresponding moves the 49ers did after placing Beal on injured reserve.

They placed wide receiver Danny Gray and rookie defensive end Robert Beal on injured reserve, and filled their vacant roster spots with defensive linemen Austin Bryant and Kerry Hyder.

Beal, who played at Georgia from 2018-2022, recorded 10 sacks during his time with the Bulldogs. Beal did not put up big numbers most seasons at Georgia, but he did get off the ball fast. That’s one of the top reasons the 49ers drafted Beal with the No. 173 pick of the 2023 NFL draft.

Now, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound rookie pass rusher will have to wait to make his NFL debut. Beal has great physical traits and if he can get healthy, then he could factor into the 49ers’ pass rush rotation.

San Francisco 49ers have one of the top defenses in the NFL and finished the 2022 NFL season with 44 total sacks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news of Robert Beal Jr. heading to IR via social media:

49ers roster moves: 2 DL re-signed after DE Robert Beal, WR Danny Gray placed on IR

The #49ers made some roster moves to bolster their defensive line:

The 49ers on Wednesday made a couple of expected roster moves official. They placed wide receiver Danny Gray and rookie defensive end Robert Beal on injured reserve, and filled their vacant roster spots with defensive linemen Austin Bryant and Kerry Hyder.

Bryant and Hyder were both given their outright releases at final roster cuts so they weren’t subject to waivers. The expectation upon their release was that they’d re-join the team on the 53-man roster.

Both DLs provide depth at their respective positions with Bryant adding some much-needed help on the edge while Hyder gives the team a versatile role player who fits on the interior and on the edge.

For Beal and Gray, both are eligible to return this season since they made the initial 53-man roster before going on IR. Beal is working through a hamstring injury, but he could conceivably return to give the team more pass rush depth at some point. Gray has a shoulder injury – and his return would give the receiving corps a much-needed speed threat.

Players on IR have to be there a minimum of four weeks before the club can designate them to return.

Dolphins nab two offensive, two defensive players in seven-round mock draft

He has them attack two of their biggest needs first.

In just days, the Miami Dolphins will enter the league’s 2023 draft with the goal of improving their roster for not only this year but for the years beyond as well.

General manager Chris Grier only has four selections at this point for the second straight year, meaning he’ll have to be really confident in his selections if he wants to make the biggest impact.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter recently published a seven-round mock draft where the Dolphins selected two offensive and two defensive players to address some of their needs.

Here’s who Reuter predicts Miami could select:

Only Georgia edge rusher Nolan Smith and Tennessee edge rusher Byron Young had better times at Beal’s position.

Georgia LB Robert Beal accepts Shrine Bowl invitation

UGA football outside linebacker Robert Beal has accepted an invitation to the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Robert Beal has accepted an invitation to the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl. NFL rookies like Arizona State corner Jack Jones, Wake Forest tackle Zach Tom, and Virginia tight end Jelani Woods played in the game last season.

6-foot-4, 255 pound senior has 8.0 career sacks at Georgia. Beal has played in 47 games at Georgia and has 59 total tackles. Beal will try to boost his NFL draft stock at the 2023 Shrine Bowl, which will be played on Feb. 2, 2023.

Robert Beal came to Georgia as a talented four-star recruit out of Peachtree Ridge High School. Beal’s hometown is Norcross, Georgia.

Beal began his playing career at Georgia back in 2018. He recorded a team-high 6.5 sacks during Georgia’s national championship run during the 2021 college football season.

Beal accepting the invitation to the Shrine Bowl means he will likely declare for the 2023 NFL draft. Beal does have another season of eligibility in 2023.
