4-star WR Jayden Gibson names UGA, Florida to top 8

The Georgia Bulldogs recently offered a scholarship to four-star wide receiver prospect Jayden Gibson

On July 5, the Georgia Bulldogs offered a scholarship to four-star wide receiver prospect Jayden Gibson. Now, Georgia and Florida are among Jayden Gibson’s top eight schools.

Gibson additionally ranks Baylor, Auburn, South Carolina, Miami, FSU and Tennessee in his list of top schools. The four-star wide receiver is projected to join Miami or Florida.

The Bulldogs offered Gibson, a member of the class of 2022, right after four-star in-state wide receiver Kojo Antwi committed to Ohio State over Georgia and Texas A&M.

Gibson plays for West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound receiver recently visited Florida, South Carolina, Auburn and Miami. Will he book a trip to Athens following his scholarship offer?

The West Orange wide receiver has good size and speed. He is a three-sport athlete who also runs track and plays basketball.

Georgia is joining Gibson’s recruiting process fairly late, but the Dawgs still have a shot in his recruitment. Gibson is the No. 36 wide receiver in the class of 2022 and the No. 226 prospect.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have the seventh-best class of 2022 at the moment. It was not long ago the Dawgs had the nation’s top class, but it has been a tough month on the recruiting trail. Georgia is still among the contenders for several major targets that plan to make commitments this month.

Gibson announced his top eight schools via his Twitter account:

4-star LB Shemar James makes commitment

Georgia and Alabama were among the top contenders for 4-star linebacker recruit Shemar James, who has committed to the Florida Gators

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide were among the top contenders high school football recruit Shemar James. James is a four-star outside linebacker prospect, who plays football for Faith Academy in Mobile, Alabama.

Now, Shemar James has committed to Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators football program. James will be an excellent addition for Florida.

Shemar James is a member of the class of 2022. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker is ranked as the No. 15 linebacker in the country and the No. 146 overall recruit. James is the No. 7 rated player in the state of Alabama.

Florida is looking to recruit Alabama heavily. The Gators landed a commitment from the No. 3 prospect in the state, Jeremiah Williams, in the class of 2021.

Shemar James plays both wide receiver and outside linebacker. His team tries to get him the ball in space anyway they can and he sometimes lines up in the backfield. It is rare to see a wide receiver who plays defensive end/outside linebacker, but James has the size to do it successfully at the high school level.

Shemar James projects to be a pass rushing outside linebacker at the college level. He has excellent speed and could be a big-time difference maker in the SEC.

The four-star linebacker committed to Florida overΒ  LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama, FSU, Michigan, and Auburn. Shemar James announced his decision on June 20 via his Twitter account:

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs offered Smith a scholarship on May 5. Georgia was not in Smith’s top 10, but the Dawgs had not offered him a scholarship then. Smith has plans to visit Florida, Arkansas and South Carolina in the upcoming weeks.

Smith announced his top five schools via his Twitter account:

You can’t teach Smith’s speed. He is an elite athlete who has speed other top recruits can’t match. Smith has one of the best 200-meters times in the country:

UCF AD spurns Dan Mullen after hiring Gus Malzahn

UCF hired former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn. The Knights’ AD immediately took a jab at Florida coach Dan Mullen and in-state competitors

UCF hired former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn to the same role with the Knights. It didn’t take UCF athletic director Terry Mohajir long to take a jab at Dan Mullen and all of the college football coaches in Florida.

According to Yahoo’s Pete Thamel, Mohajir called Gus Malzahn:

The best college football coach in the state of Florida.

UCF’s athletic director is right to have confidence in Gus Malzahn. Malzahn played the underdog role better than perhaps any other coach in recent memory. At Auburn, Malzahn helped the Tigers upset more talented opponents like Alabama with surprising frequency.

Terry Mohajir definitely ruffled some feathers among in-state competition like Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Mohajir’s smack talk probably angers Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen the most as he’s widely considered the best coach in Florida.

Mullen has helped the Gators regain some national respect in recent seasons. Evidently he’s not been as impressive as UCF coach Gus Malzahn. Unfortunately, UCF and Florida (or any out-of-conference team in the state of Florida) don’t have any future scheduled contests.

Nick Saban and Alabama football aren’t going anywhere for a long time. That’s bad news for Georgia and the rest of college football.

Georgia’s 2021 national signing day has been a quite one. Fortunately, the Bulldogs landed a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Bear Alexander.

Kirk Herbstreit releases his college football top six rankings: Gators out

Kirk Herbstreit releases his college football top six rankings: Florida Gators out, but how is Iowa State ranked over Georgia?

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest rankings of the top six teams with hopes of making the College Football Playoff. There’s only one week left to go in college football, but this upcoming week will feature the SEC and ACC Championships, which both have CFP implications.

There weren’tΒ  many top teams playing in Week 15’s action. LSU upset Florida behind a boot from kicker Cade York and a show throw from Florida defensive back Marco Wilson in the biggest game of the week.

Clemson, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Cincinnati, and Ohio State all either had the week off or had their games postponed. The Cincinnati Bearcats haven’t played in nearly a month. Alabama cruised past Arkansas in another dominant victory. The Crimson Tide look like college football’s top team this season.

In the ACC, Notre Dame and Clemson are going to have a rematch in the ACC Championship. The winner of that game certainly makes the CFP, but if Notre Dame loses, then they are still going to make it.

Here’s who Kirk Herbstreit puts in his top six schools:

Notably, Herbstreit now ranks Iowa State over Georgia and Florida. Iowa State is one of the hottest teams in college football, but they opened the season with an embarrassing 31-14 loss to Louisiana. Yes, Louisiana is ranked, but they still blew out Iowa State.

Georgia has only lost to Florida and Alabama, which are much superior competition than Louisiana. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter because there’s essentially no path to the College Football Playoff for Georgia.

Kirk Herbstreit updates his College Football Playoff rankings

Kirk Herbstreit updates his College Football Playoff rankings. Where is Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and more?

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit named his latest rankings of the top six teams with hopes of making the College Football Playoff. There weren’t many upsets in Week 14’s action. Coastal Carolina knocked off BYU in the biggest game of the week. Coastal Carolina now has a chance to make a New Year’s Six bowl.

Clemson and Ohio State won in convincing conference wins. The Florida Gators slipped by Tennessee and Texas A&M won against Auburn. Indiana defeated Wisconsin cementing one of their better seasons in recent memory. Alabama dominated LSU and the Georgia Bulldog game against Vanderbilt was postponed.

In the SEC, Alabama and Florida are now set to play each other in the SEC Championship. The SEC Championship winner will make the College Football Playoff and either Florida quarterback Kyle Trask or Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is expected to win the Heisman.

In the ACC, Notre Dame and Clemson are going to have a rematch in the ACC Championship. Ohio State looks like the only other serious College Football Playoff contender. Texas A&M could get in if Florida loses in the SEC Championship Game, but the Aggies will need more help than that.

Here’s who Kirk Herbstreit puts in his top six schools:

Notably, Herbstreit now ranks Texas A&M over Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bearcats didn’t play on Dec. 5. They’ll face Tulsa in one of their last games to impress the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Cincinnati would need lot help going forward. They still could make the College Football Playoff if Florida and Clemson lose in their conference championships. Still, the Bearcats would need Texas A&M to lose to either Mississippi or Tennessee.
