Christian Robinson, who played linebacker at Georgia from 2009-2012, is now the linebackers coach for the Auburn Tigers.

Robinson served as a graduate assistant at Georgia under Mark Richt from 2013-2014. Robinson also held a similar role at Ole Miss and Mississippi State before becoming the linebackers coach at Florida under Dan Mullen in 2018. Billy Napier and the Florida Gators moved on from Robinson following their bowl game.

Robinson recorded 159 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss during his career with Georgia. Robinson served as Florida’s interim defensive coordinator after the Gators lost to South Carolina this season. Robinson did not do enough for Napier to retain him.

The Auburn Tigers hired Robinson on Jan. 22. Auburn officially announced the move via Twitter:

Auburn is an excellent landing spot for Robinson, who will continue to coach in the SEC. Robinson will also be the defensive run game coordinator for the Tigers.

Georgia will wish Robinson well, but the Dawgs will not be cheering for the Tigers on Oct. 8 when Auburn comes to Athens.

Georgia facing former UGA WR Demetris Robertson

Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Demetris Robertson elected to transfer to the Auburn Tigers on July 8

Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Demetris Robertson elected to transfer to the Auburn Tigers on July 8. On Oct. 9, Robertson will face his former team.

The Savannah, Georgia, native signed with Georgia in 2018 after a pair of seasons at California. Robertson is a former elite recruit out of Savannah Christian.

Robertson saw limited playing time during his time in Athens. He chose to transfer to Auburn because he liked Auburn coach Bryan Harsin and had an opportunity to get more snaps. Robertson joined an Auburn receiving core that returned a total of 23 catches from their 2020 campaign.

Thus far, Demetris Robertson’s transfer to Auburn has gone as planned. The former Bulldog has 17 receptions, 215 total yards, and 3 touchdowns for the Tigers. He finished with only 110 receiving yards on 12 receptions for UGA in 2020.

Kearis Jackson, Jermaine Burton, Arian Smith and Adonai Mitchell were projected to compete with Robertson for playing time in 2021 at Georgia. During his Georgia career, Robertson hauled in 43 receptions for 443 yards with three receiving touchdowns.

Robertson’s transfer may have helped boost his NFL draft stock. He is getting more experience with Auburn.

Here’s a look back at Demetris Robertson’s thoughtful message when announced his transfer to Auburn via his Twitter account:

Demetris Robertson will be reunited with his former teammates on Oct. 9. He will be a key player for the Tigers to have success against an elite Georgia defense.

UCF AD spurns Dan Mullen after hiring Gus Malzahn

UCF hired former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn. The Knights’ AD immediately took a jab at Florida coach Dan Mullen and in-state competitors

UCF hired former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn to the same role with the Knights. It didn’t take UCF athletic director Terry Mohajir long to take a jab at Dan Mullen and all of the college football coaches in Florida.

According to Yahoo’s Pete Thamel, Mohajir called Gus Malzahn:

The best college football coach in the state of Florida.

UCF’s athletic director is right to have confidence in Gus Malzahn. Malzahn played the underdog role better than perhaps any other coach in recent memory. At Auburn, Malzahn helped the Tigers upset more talented opponents like Alabama with surprising frequency.

Terry Mohajir definitely ruffled some feathers among in-state competition like Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Mohajir’s smack talk probably angers Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen the most as he’s widely considered the best coach in Florida.

Mullen has helped the Gators regain some national respect in recent seasons. Evidently he’s not been as impressive as UCF coach Gus Malzahn. Unfortunately, UCF and Florida (or any out-of-conference team in the state of Florida) don’t have any future scheduled contests.

UGA set to face new Kentucky QB in Joey Gatewood

The Georgia Bulldogs will be facing an unfamiliar foe in Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Joey Gatewood, who transferred from Auburn.

The Georgia Bulldogs will be facing an unfamiliar foe in Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Joey Gatewood. Gatewood transferred to the University of Kentucky after playing for the Auburn Tigers in 2019.

Bo Nix beat out Joey Gatewood for the starting quarterback role at Auburn which contributed to Gatewood’s decision to transfer to Kentucky. Gatewood hasn’t started a game in his college career until now. He’ll face the vaunted Georgia Bulldogs defense, which may be the top defense in the SEC.

Gatewood has attempted only 13 passes in his NCAA career. He’s a dual-threat quarterback, who was used as more of a rusher during his time at Auburn. Gatewood has accumulated 40 carries over three seasons and scored five total touchdowns for Auburn during the 2019 season.

Gatewood has a large frame and came into Auburn as a well-regarded four-star recruit. He will face a tough challenge against Georgia, but he’ll be playing behind a stout Wildcat offensive front and will have the benefit of playing at home.

Kentucky’s offense has struggled this year and they haven’t gotten many explosive plays from now injured starting quarterback Terry Wilson. Wilson is a steady player, who rarely throws interceptions, but he’s out for Saturday’s contest against Georgia with a wrist injury.

Will Gatewood make the most of his opportunity against Georgia? The Bulldogs should try to take away Kentucky’s run game and force them into obvious passing situations. The Dawgs can create turnovers if they get Kentucky into third and long.

Stetson Bennett and the Georgia Bulldog offense can help the defense’s cause with a few early touchdowns. If Joey Gatewood is one-dimensional, then the defense will be in for a much more comfortable night.

SEC Week 5 Conference Power Rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide top the week 5 SEC Power Rankings following their win over Georgia.

[jwplayer FpdiEnjh-er0jUifI]

The Georgia Bulldogs got outscored 21-0 in the second half against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Stetson Bennett threw three interceptions for the University of Georgia. The Dawgs fell 41-24 to Alabama, who showed off their superior offense and quarterback play.

Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith had their way with Georgia’s defense. The Alabama offensive line won the battle in the trenches and their defense got a pair of deflections that led to interceptions.

Additionally, in week five SEC action, the Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Ole Miss Rebels. Jimbo Fisher, Kellen Mond, and the Texas A&M Aggies defeated Mike Leach and the reeling Mississippi State Bulldogs.

South Carolina got a huge win over Auburn and Kentucky blew out Tennessee. Here’s SEC Mike’s week five power rankings:

What do you think of the rankings. It is hard to disagree with the top. Texas A&M should probably be over Arkansas and Ole Miss seems too high, but they did beat Kentucky.
