Bills sign 13 players to reserve/future contracts

Full list:

(Update 1/24, 6:30 p.m.): The Bills have also signed QB Shane Buechele to a reserve/future contract:

Previous coverage:

The Buffalo Bills had inked 11 players to reserve/future contracts earlier this week. Then on Tuesday, two more were added to the bunch.

A reserve/future contract guarantees that a player cannot be signed by another team. The deal goes into effect once the new league year begins and will count towards the next season’s salary cap and 90-man roster for the offseason and training camp.

Of the 13, 11 were on the team’s practice squad during the 2023 season. Two of them, wide receiver KJ Hamler and safety Kendall Williamson, were not.

Here’s the full list of the 13 players the Bills have signed to reserve/future deals:

Bills vs. Colts: Matt Barkley throws deep ball for touchdown (video)

Barkley bomb:

The Bills took the lead back (for whatever that’s worth) in their preseason matchup against the Colts thanks to a pretty pass from backup quarterback Matt Barkley.

Completing an 11-play, 83-yard drive, the vet QB found Tyrell Shavers on a 22-yard bomb down the left sideline at Highmark Stadium.

Shavers caught it just before the goal line and he cruised into the end zone for the score. It brought that the game to a 17-13 score line in the third quarter.

Check out the touchdown pass below:

Former Alabama WR Tyrell Shavers signs with Buffalo Bills as UDFA

Former Alabama wide receiver Tyrell Shavers went undrafted but is signing a three-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.

Former Alabama wide receiver Tyrell Shavers is signing a three-year deal with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent.

Shavers began his college career at Alabama in 2017. He spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide before transferring to Mississippi State.

At Alabama, Shavers hauled in just one reception for 20 receiving yards. His most memorable moment in an Alabama uniform is when he blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown against Texas A&M as a sophomore.

In one season at Mississippi State, he had nine catches for 107 yards and one touchdown.

After the 2020 season, he transferred to San Diego State where he would spend the next two seasons. Shavers had 56 receptions for 856 yards and five touchdowns.

Now, he will begin his professional career in Buffalo. Along with Shavers, former Alabama defensive lineman DJ Dale was also signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bills. It will be interesting to see how the two perform at the professional level.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program and its players competing at the professional level.

Bills UDFA tracker following 2023 NFL draft

#Bills UDFA tracker following 2023 NFL draft:

The Buffalo Bills added six new pieces to their roster during the 2023 NFL draft.

After making their picks comes the convincing. The Bills look to add some value players to their roster via free agency.

Approximately 25-30 percent of the NFL consists of players who were not drafted. There is still a great deal of talent available for teams to sign following the draft.

Here is the reported list of the undrafted players who the Bills have signed thus far:

WATCH: Former Tide WR Tyrell Shavers makes TD catch for Miss State

Tyrell Shavers is making an impact for his new team, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Check out this touchdown catch.

Coming out of high school in 2017, Tyrell Shavers was one of the most impressive height-weight-speed receiver prospects in the country. He was rated as a four-star, top 100 player, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

After a few seasons in Tuscaloosa with little on-field impact, the Lewisville (Tex.) native chose to enter the transfer portal in order to seek out more playing time to wrap up his career.

Ultimately, Shavers chose to leave for division foe Mississippi State, and so far, it looks like it was the correct decision. During his first game with the Bulldogs, the 6-foot-6 pass-catcher caught a touchdown pass from fellow transfer quarterback K.J. Costello of Stanford.

More impressive, it came against the No. 6 team in the country, the LSU Tigers. Check it out below!

While it’s unfortunate that things didn’t work out for Shavers at Alabama, it is good to see him making an impact for another team — even if some fans don’t agree.

Former Alabama WR Tyrell Shavers is transferring to Mississippi State

Former Alabama wide receiver Tyrell Shavers announced via Twitter on Monday that he’s transferring to Mississippi State.

Less than a week after entering the transfer portal, former Alabama wide receiver Tyrell Shavers announced via Twitter on Monday that he’s transferring to Mississippi State.

Shavers came to Alabama as 4 star recruit and was also a top 100 recruit in the nation, and the 12th overall wide receiver in the nation.

In his career at Alabama, he only recorded 1 reception for 20 yards, which was in 2019 against Western Carolina. It is important to note that Shavers did play in all 28 games the past two seasons.

Shavers heads to Starkville as a graduate transfer with two remaining years of eligibility.

Locked on Longhorns: Wide receivers, bowl projections and Shemar Turner

Locked on Longhorns podcast discusses the wide receivers, latest bowl projections and could they also land another top defensive end?

The podcast kicks off with the discuss of a potential transfer wide receiver, Tyrell Shavers. Shavers recently put his name in the transfer portal and now he is being linked to Texas. Mike Roach of 247Sports reported the connection on Sunday. With Brennan Eagles planning on not playing a snap, could Shavers be in line to start as a backup option?

Sporting News has come out with their summer bowl projections with the Longhorns playing in the Cotton Bowl Classic. What does that say about how Texas is expected to finish the year?

Recently Shemar Turner announced his top five schools for his commitment. What would his acquisition mean for the Longhorns defense? The four star DeSoto product would only enhance a defense that has underperformed for years. Also were in Longhorns selected in the ESPN every player available draft?

Could the Texas Longhorns be eyeing another transfer wideout?

After securing Tarik Black from Michigan earlier this year, the Texas Longhorns could have their eyes on Alabama’s Tyrell Shavers.

Earlier this year, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Tom Herman added a wide receiver to a very young group. Tarik Black made his way from Michigan to the Forty Acres via the transfer portal and the Longhorns could find themselves in the same situation again. According to Mike Roach of 247Sports Texas could look to add Tyrell Shavers of Alabama.

According to the report Shavers has interest from TCU, Mississippi State, Central Florida as well as the Longhorns. Shavers is coming from a program that has put a ton of talent at the position in the NFL. This past year Henry Ruggs II and Jerry Jeudy both were drafted inside of the top 20. This next year could be the same with Jaylon Waddle and Devonta Smith.

Shavers currently has two years of eligibility left and has only one catch for 20 yards in his collegiate career. Should he head to Austin, he could be in the mix to get plenty of playing time for a group that has a lot of question marks at the moment. The 6’6″ pass catcher would bring the size that Texas will be missing with Collin Johnson now in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Lewisville, Texas product could return to his home state where he was a four star prospect that was ranked the 12th receiver overall and 11th prospect in Texas during the 2017 recruiting cycle. Shavers already graduated from Alabama so he would be eligible to play immediately for the next two seasons.

With little production for the Crimson Tide, he is unproven. With a former NFL receiver in Andre Coleman now on staff, one should expect that he could get the most out of him.
