Browns host 10 players for workouts on Friday including Kenny Stills

The Browns hosted 10 free agents for tryouts today, including veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills

We found out earlier this morning the Cleveland Browns were hosting former Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Prince Emili. However, it turns out the Browns actually hosted 10 players today, and one of them was veteran wide receiver Kenny Stills.

All-in-all, the Browns hosted a quarterback, an offensive tackle, three defensive tackles, two running backs, and three wide receivers. The three defensive tackles are the clear emphasis here, especially after the Cleveland defensive interior was torn to shreds against the Atlanta Falcons.

We take a look here at each of the ten players and give a bit of background on each of them.

Commanders released three defensive players on Monday

The Commanders began making moves Monday ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

All 32 NFL teams have until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday afternoon to trim their rosters to 53 players. That means every team must release 27 players between the final preseason game and Tuesday’s deadline.

Some teams began making moves on Monday, including the Washington Commanders.

Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reported that Washington had released veteran safety Steven Parker.

Parker was signed before the first preseason game and played well. Had the Commanders not had young safety depth, Parker could’ve easily made the roster. Parker has spent time with the Rams, Dolphins, Vikings, Cowboys and Giants. His work in the preseason should earn him another look soon.

Next, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reported defensive tackle Tyler Clark was released. The Commanders needed another body at defensive tackle after losing Tim Settle and releasing Matt Ioannidis and signed Clark.

Washington also released undrafted rookie defensive end Jacub Panasiuk. Panasiuk impressed coaches this summer, but the Commanders were likely looking for more experience at defensive end with Chase Young out at least the first four weeks. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Washington signs Panasiuk to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

We’ll keep you posted on all of Washington’s roster moves.

Seahawks tryout 3 free agent linemen, cut 1 DB from practice squad

Yesterday, the team brought in three free agent linemen for tryouts and also cut one player from the practice squad

The Seahawks have several holes to fill on their roster – and that was before the news that Jamal Adams would miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery.

Yesterday, the team brought in three free agent linemen for tryouts and also waived one player from the practice squad. Here’s a review.

Chiefs sign three players to reserve/future contracts

Three more players added to the mix for the 2021 offseason in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to add pieces for the 2021 offseason roster.

According to the NFL’s official transaction report, the Chiefs have signed DB Rodney Clemons, RB Derrick Gore and DT Tyler Clark to reserve/future contracts. All three of the players visited the team recently ahead of Super Bowl LV.

Both Clemons and Clark have spent time on the Chiefs’ practice squad this season, while Gore spent time on the Chargers’ practice squad this season. Gore was among the group of seven players who first visited the team in early January.

If you’re not familiar with reserve/future signings work, they allow players to join teams prior to the beginning of the new league year. Those players won’t count against the 53-man roster at all. As soon as the new league year begins and the 90-man offseason roster is opened up, each of Clemons, Gore and Clark will be activated to the roster.

The Chiefs have now signed a total of nine players to reserve/future contracts. These three players join TE Sean Culkin, OT Prince Tega Wanogho, WR Chad WilliamsWR Antonio CallawayQB Jordan Ta’amu and QB Anthony Gordon. Clemons and Clark are the first two defensive players that the team has added.

Chiefs sign QB Jordan Ta’amu to practice squad, cut Tyler Clark

Jordan Ta’amu is back with the Kansas City Chiefs after his practice squad contract with the Detroit Lions expired.

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought back a familiar face at the quarterback position on their practice squad.

According to the NFL’s official transaction report, the Chiefs have signed QB Jordan Ta’amu to the practice squad. Ta’amu was previously a member of the Chiefs’ practice squad this season. They released him back in late October and he signed with the Detroit Lions practice squad in December. His contract with the Lions expired on Monday morning, making him free to sign with any team. Instead of signing a reserve/future deal elsewhere, he chose to come back to Kansas City, where he spent the 2020 offseason.

Ta’amu was a standout player in the XFL before joining the Chiefs, recording the top completion percentage in the league at 72% and the third-most passing yards with 1,050, tossing five touchdown in the process. He spent the offseason with the Chiefs and was signed to the practice squad in Kansas City shortly after 53-man roster cuts. One of his teammates in the quarterback room is happy to have him back.

One reason that the Chiefs may have opted to bring Ta’amu back is because of the role he played on the scout team earlier in the season. Ahead of Week 3, Ta’amu played Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson for the scout team offense. With Jackson still in the playoffs, it’s possible that the Chiefs feel he has the better skill set to mimic players like Jackson or even Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield on the scout team.

In order to make room for Ta’amu, Kansas City cut DT Tyler Clark who they had recently signed to the practice squad. They also placed CB DeAndre Baker on the practice squad injured list, effectively ending his season after he broke his femur in Week 17. Their final practice squad move was to make the signing of special teams ace and WR Marcus Kemp official.

Georgia Bulldogs DL Tyler Clark signs UDFA deal

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Tyler Clark did not get invited to the 2020 NFL Combine and went undrafted

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Tyler Clark did not get invited to the 2020 NFL Combine and went undrafted. Now he’s signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Clark teams up with UGA legend Geno Atkins in Cincy:

Clark was snubbed from the combine despite being a key piece of Georgia’s elite defense.

Clark helped UGA have the best run defense in the country, allow the fewest rushing touchdowns, and surrender the fewest points of any team in college football. Tyler Clark played a significant amount in all four of his seasons at Georgia.

As a senior Clark finished the season with 2.5 sacks and 26 total tackles. He was disruptive and contributed to 8 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Clark has solid size and is strong at the point of attack. He is a good all-around player, but isn’t spectacular in any aspect.

Clark had 6.5 sacks over his career, but his best game by far was in the 2018 Rose Bowl against Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners. Against the Sooners, Clark had a sack and a pair of tackles for a loss. Over his steady career as a three year starter, Clark totaled 119 tackles.

Fans may recognize his name from key plays like this:

Georgia football UDFA tracker: Who’s signed? Who’s available?

A look at which Georgia football players have signed undrafted free agent deals following the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Georgia Bulldogs had seven players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

#4 OT Andrew Thomas to the Giants

#29 OT Isaiah Wilson to the Titans

#35 RB D’Andre Swift to the Lions

#111 OG Solomon Kindley to the Dolphins

#167 QB Jake Fromm to the Bills

#190 TE Charlie Woerner to the 49ers

#255 (very last pick) LB Tae Crowder to the Giants

It took until the very last pick of the NFL Draft for a Georgia defender to get taken — surprising considering UGA’s 2019 defense ranked first in America.

But plenty of Georgia Bulldogs did not hear their name called during the draft.

I would have bet you that safety JR Reed, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, defensive tackle Tyler Clark and wide receiver Lawrence Cager would have went.

But in the end, they did not.

Here is who they have signed with as undrafted free agents:

K Rodrigo Blankenship: Colts

WR Lawrence Cager: Jets

WR Tyler Simmons: Texans

RB Brian Herrien: Browns

S JR Reed: Jaguars

TE Eli Wolf: Ravens

Georgia players remaining include:

Georgia and the NFL Draft: Who’s taken? Who’s available?

Looking at which Georgia football players have been taken in the 2020 NFL Draft and who is still available.

With the third round complete, Georgia has had three players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Bulldogs had a pair of offensive tackles taken in the first round. Andrew Thomas went #4 to the New York Giants and Isaiah Wilson was selected at #29 by the Tennessee Titans.

Running back D’Andre Swift surprisingly fell out of the first round but was quickly drafted at the start of the second, going #35 overall to the Detroit Lions.

Then we waited, and we kept waiting. But quarterback Jake Fromm and offensive guard Solomon Kindley, both players who could have potentially been taken on Friday, remained undrafted.

So now we look ahead to rounds 4-7, which will take place on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.

Here’s a look at which Georgia players are still on the board:

QB Jake Fromm:

We thought Fromm may have gone on Friday night. Hopefully the accomplished Georgia signal caller hears his name called shortly. The Patriots continued to tease us, but never did pull the trigger in the third round.

OG Solomon Kindley:

It’s been hard to get a read on where and when Kindley may be taken. When healthy, he’s about as good as it gets.

S JR Reed:

Where’s the love for Reed? He has some of the best instincts I’ve seen from a collegiate defensive back, does not miss tackles and has a nose for the football.

K Rodrigo Blankenship:

If a team does take a kicker, which I suspect one will, it has to be Hot Rod.

WR Lawrence Cager:

If it were not for his injuries he suffered in 2019, I think Cager would be viewed as a third round guy. All he did was make big plays when healthy.

DL Tyler Clark:

He started 35 games between 2017-2019 and was a leader on the defensive line. A key player on college football’s best defense, Clark plays hard and physical.

Projected undrafted free agents:

RB Brian Herrien:

He likely will not be drafted, but whatever team signs him as an undrafted free agent is going to get one of the hardest workers in this class.

ILB Tae Crowder:

Another guy who likely will not be drafted, but Crowder, a former running back, plays nasty.

DL Michael Barnett

6-foot-4, 304 pounds. Barnett played against the toughest competition at a high level for five years.

DE David Marshall

He’s started plenty of games in the SEC. His lone tackle at Auburn was a big one — a fourth-down stop for a loss of 13 yards.

WR Tyler Simmons

Speed kills, and Simmons has it. He has a long ways to go, but he made some big plays during his time at Georgia. Oh, and he was onside.

TE Charlie Woerner

Woerner made some big time plays during his four years at Georgia. He had three catches vs Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.

DE Justin Young

He plays scrappy and physical. He was also a leader on the best defense in America.

TE Eli Wolf

Remember this?

Where Georgia Bulldogs rank on NFL Draft big board

A 2020 NFL Draft big board features eight Georgia Bulldogs including D’Andre Swift, Jake Fromm, Andrew Thomas, Solomon Kindley, and more.

With the NFL Draft ahead, let’s take a look at the 2020 NFL Draft big board. Several Georgia Bulldogs are projected to be selected including potential first round picks in Andrew Thomas and D’Andre Swift.

NFL Mock Drafts differ from big boards because they take into account team needs and potential trades. Big boards focus on the best players in the draft.

Here’s where Georgia Bulldogs rank on The Draft Wire’s big board:

7. Andrew Thomas OT (first round grade)

New Cardinals 7-round mock draft simulation starts with different OT

What if Arizona bucks the recent mock draft trends and takes a different Offensive Tackle at Pick 8?

What if Arizona surprises everyone and goes with a different offensive tackle than many have them taking?

What if they take Andrew Thomas at number 8 overall?

This simulation looks what would happen if the Cards do just that:

Round 1: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas

(AP Photo/John Amis)

Thomas may not excite fans like the massive Mekhi Becton, or be as athletic as Tristan Wirfs, or as dominant in the run game as Jedrick Wills.

But one thing he may be more than the other top three tackles? A very safe pick.

Given the Cardinals’ history of first-round picks that have not worked out very well, safe may be good. Thomas has the potential to be a solid right tackle for years, then take over at left tackle should something happen to DJ Humphries.
