6 Seahawks veterans who may be on the roster bubble at training camp

Here are six vets who may be in danger of losing their roster spots if they don’t perform well during training camp and the preseason.

The Seattle Seahawks front office did some serious remodeling to their roster this offseason. In addition to totally turning over their defensive line rotation, Seattle drafted 10 players and signed a couple dozen undrafted free agents. That means the roster is for the most part set for 2023. However, there will be some trimming between now and the start of the regular season and there are always a few surprise cuts every year.

With that in mind, here are six vets who may be in danger of losing their roster spots if they don’t perform well during training camp and the preseason.

Seahawks LB Alton Robinson still not at full-speed after season on IR

Despite spending the season on the injured reserve, Seahawks linebacker Alton Robinson still hasn’t fully recovered from his knee injury.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Alton Robinson was placed on the injured reserve ahead of the start of the 2022 campaign after suffering a knee injury in the preseason.

The hope was that Robinson would be back at some point in the fall, but that turned out not to be the case and he remained on the IR the entire year.

“There are some issues with his return,” coach Pete Carroll said last Monday. “It’s taken him a while. I don’t have the specifics on it, but I know it has been a struggle. I don’t have a good update for you, but he’s still in the process and he’s a ways from getting back and making it back to full speed. It’s a knee injury that there were some complications in there in the return, because it’s just taken him some time.

“He’s worked out hard at it, but he’s not full-speed running yet.”

Because Robinson sustained the injury so long ago, the expectation is that he’ll recover by the start of the new season.

A look at Seahawks injuries heading into Week 7

Coach Pete Carroll provided a number of Seattle Seahawks player injuries ahead of the Week 7 matchup against the Chargers.

The Seattle Seahawks came away from their Week-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals relatively unscathed, but the team is still dealing with a number of injuries. Coach Pete Carroll provided some updates during his Wednesday press conference.

Defensive tackle Al Woods, who injured his knee in Week 5, practiced on Wednesday. “Yeah, he feels good,” Carroll told reporters.

Guard Gabe Jackson (hip): “We don’t know anything today,” Carroll said. “We’ll just go day-to-day.”

Linebacker Alton Robinson (knee): “I don’t have a good one for Alton right now,” Carroll said. “He’s still kind of in the middle of it.”

Cornerback Tre Brown (knee): “He is really starting to go,” Carroll explained. “He’s really close and he’s running really fast, he’s changing direction. It’s just, can he endure it and keep coming back? He’s not very far away now. I would say we are a couple of weeks away maybe and he should really be fighting to get back out there. I’m really excited to see him. I love when he was playing for us. He did a really good job. To add him to the competition would be great.”

Running back Travis Homer (rib): “Travis is really making progress,” Carroll said. “He’s a week away now. He’ll be eligible to come back next week. We’ll see if he can do that. He’s worked really hard and he’s really chomping at the bit to come back.”

Linebacker Darryl Johnson (foot): “Bam is a little less known right now,” Carroll admitted. “He hasn’t been able to do as much, so he’s not as close right now.”

Wide receiver Penny Hart (hamstring): “I talked to Penny specifically today,” Carroll confirmed. “There was a chance that we could’ve IR’d him a week ago and just knowing his nature and how he bounces back and all that, I would’ve sat him down for four weeks. I just told him, ‘We thought about it, but we’re kind of counting on you to make it back before then.’ So, we’ll see. It’s still a four-week injury, but some guys can get through those time frames.”

Defensive end L.J. Collier (elbow, thumb): “He’s going to practice,” Carroll said. “He’s really close, now. We need to see how well he can deal with it. He just kind of barely made it through practice last week, really couldn’t put his hand in there, because his thumb was really hurting.”

Pete Carroll details Seahawks injuries heading into Week 4

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates heading into the practice week ahead of facing the Lions.

The Seattle Seahawks lost one player to the injured reserve this week, when running back Travis Homer was placed on the IR due to a hit to the ribs last Sunday. Coach Pete Carroll was asked about his status and those of the rest of the banged-up players during his Wednesday press conference.

“It’s a really uncomfortable injury,” Carroll said of Homer. “He’ll get better fast in a couple of weeks from now and we’ll just see if he can stand it. He’s as tough as you can get. If anybody can do it, he’ll do it.”

Linebacker Alton Robinson (knee) is eligible to return from the IR after Week 4, although it might take some more time before he is activated. “We’d like to see that,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s got to come back and show it. He’s been working to stay in shape and all of that. It may take a couple weeks to get him back in there.”

In better news, Carroll expects defensive end, Shelby Harris (glute), to make his return in time to face the Lions. “He’s back,” Carroll confirmed. “Because of the way things fell, he won’t go today. But we’re testing him out with the trainers today. I talked to him a little while ago, he’s anxious to play this week. He thinks he can do it, but he’s got to show.”

The latest injury report will be released later Thursday afternoon.

Seahawks: 7 sleepers to watch at 2022 training camp

One week from today the Seattle Seahawks will report to training camp.

One week from today the Seattle Seahawks will report to training camp.

The theme of this offseason has been one of change. While the team might look much the same on paper compared to last year, Seattle went through a revolution in leadership. From sending their franchise quarterback away to totally upending their defensive coaching staff, there’s been a lot of shakeups around the VMAC. In theory, that should create opportunities for younger players and undrafted free agents to make their mark as this team begins a new chapter. Here are seven sleepers to keep an eye on during camp.

Seahawks add another defensive lineman to Reserve/COVID-19 list

Seattle just announced that defensive tackle Myles Adams has been placed on the team’s Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Seahawks just announced that defensive tackle Myles Adams has been placed on the team’s Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Adams is the second Seattle defensive lineman who’s been placed on the list this week and his presence brings the total number of players on it to five. Here is the team’s updated COVID-19 list heading into the final week of the 2021 season.

Seahawks place DE Alton Robinson on Reserve/COVID-19 list

Seahawks place DE Alton Robinson on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Omicron variant is everywhere and the NFL is no exception, even among teams with near-perfect vaccination rates. The Seahawks have had players coming on and off their roster for the last several weeks and just placed defensive end Alton Robinson on their Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Robinson is in his second year in the league and he hasn’t been able to find much consistent playing time in an edge rotation also featuring Darrell Taylor, Kerry Hyder Jr. and Carlos Dunlap. In 16 games, he has been on the field for 31% of Seattle’s defensive snaps and 19% on special teams. Robinson had four sacks as a rookie but only one this season to go with 22 combined tackles and three quarterback hits.

The other three players on the Seahawks’ COVID-19 list are left guard Damien Lewis, cornerback Bless Austin and cornerback Sidney Jones, who we just learned is the only unvaccinated player on the team.

Seattle Seahawks: 7 players who should get more snaps going forward

Here are seven players who should get a higher snap count going forward.

The Seattle Seahawks are 1-1 heading into Week 3 of the season. On paper, this is a strong team with a real chance to go deep in the playoffs. However, they face a gruesome challenge trying to get out of the NFC West, the most competitive division in the league right now by far. Seattle will need every advantage to earn a spot in the postseason. Looking ahead, coach Pete Carroll should continue tinkering with his lineups and give promising players more opportunities to see if they can help.
