Former UGA LB transfers to Alabama

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Trezmen Marshall has transferred to Alabama

Georgia linebacker Trezmen Marshall is transferring to the Alabama Crimson Tide. For the second consecutive offseason, a Georgia player has transferred to Alabama after winning the national championship.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound junior from Homerville, Georgia, is likely looking for more playing time at his transfer destination. However, he will face stout competition at Alabama. The Crimson Tide always have a talented roster.

Marshall, a former four-star recruit, played high school football at Clinch County High School. Marshall was in the Georgia inside linebacker rotation this season. He played some key snaps in the College Football Playoff, especially against Ohio State. He recorded 19 total tackles and a sack in 2022.

His departure is a blow to Georgia’s linebacker depth. However, the Bulldogs have signed three of the top five linebackers in the class of 2023.

Georgia co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann wrote a nice message upon Marshall’s transfer to Alabama:

In 2021, Marshall played in four games before a knee injury ended his season.

In 2020, Marshall dealt with a shoulder injury (torn labrum) sustained during the season opener against Arkansas. He did not record a tackle that season. In 2019, Marshall recorded five tackles including a key tackle on the kickoff against Texas A&M.

Marshall, a member of the class of 2019, enrolled early at the University of Georgia and participated in 2019 spring practice.

Before coming to the Georgia, Marshall dominated public school Class A football en route to winning three state titles in four seasons. He played inside linebacker, quarterback/running back, defensive end and fullback.

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday, Jan. 20.

Good morning, Tide fans! Welcome back to another Friday edition of Alabama Morning Drive!

Thursday certainly was an exciting day for the fans of the Alabama football program.

Alabama offensive coordinator [autotag]Bill O’Brien[/autotag] interviewed for the same position with New England Patriots. He is now expected to eventually land the role with his old boss, Bill Belichick.

Tide fans have made their feelings about O’Brien known over the past couple of seasons, so it appears they will be getting their wish and a new coordinator will soon take over in Tuscaloosa.

Here are a few other top stories to follow this Friday morning!

BREAKING: Alabama lands Georgia LB transfer Trezmen Marshall

Georgia linebacker Trezmen Marshall announced that he was transferring to Alabama on Thursday. This is big news for the Tide’s defense!

Alabama’s football program received a huge boost on Thursday night when they landed a commitment from Georgia transfer Trezmen Marshall. Marshall spent the past three seasons in Athens.

The former Bulldog was recruited out of high school by the Alabama coaching staff but ultimately chose to commit to Georgia. Marshall tallied 30 tackles, one sack, and one interception while playing for Kirby Smart.

Now, the Georgia native will be looking to make an immediate impact for an Alabama defense that saw numerous players declare for the NFL Draft. One of those is Henry To’oTo’o which could be one of the largest losses this offseason. Not to mention, Alabama linebacker Demouy Kennedy recently entered the transfer portal as well.

The assumption is that Marshall would compete for the inside linebacker spot alongside rising junior Deontae Lawson. His knowledge and experience from an elite program like Georgia will certainly help his chances of seeing meaningful playing time in Tuscaloosa next season. This is huge news for the Crimson Tide!

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover news as it relates to the Alabama football program.

Projected 2020 Georgia football depth chart: Linebackers

We project what Georgia’s line-backing core will look like in 2020 after a record breaking year for the Bulldogs defense in 2019.

The 2019 Georgia defense might have been the best in program history. The Bulldogs finished the season ranked No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 3 in total defense and only allowed two rushing touchdowns all year.

The Georgia defense in 2020 will look a little different, mainly because of the departures of safety J.R. Reed and linebacker Tae Crowder to the NFL. However, Georgia returns a majority of starters from the record-setting unit in 2019, led by coach Kirby Smart and one of the most experienced linebackers in the SEC, Monty Rice.

Here is our projection of what the linebacker depth chart will look like in the Fall:
