Top-ranked 2025 safety sets official visit with Florida Gators

The Florida Gators set up an official visit with the No. 1 safety prospect in the nation, set to take place this Friday.

It seems like talks between the Florida Gators and the No. 1 safety in the nation are starting to spice up as the prospect told reporters at 247Sports that an official visit has been set up for the upcoming weekend.

Four-star recruit [autotag]Trey McNutt[/autotag] is regarded as the top safety in the nation, and Gators defensive backs coach Will Harris has been in contact with the recruit to coerce him to the Sunshine State.

The sweet talk has come to fruition and now an official visit has been for Friday. The Cleveland, Ohio, native has never been to the UF campus and wants to see what it’s like in person.

“I am interested,” McNutt said. “I want to get out to Florida and see what it’s like out there. Really meet the whole staff.”

Top Schools

The top-rated prospect included the Gators in his top eight choices for programs on his trail during the 2025 recruiting cycle. Others on the list spanned from USC, Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon and Georgia.

McNutt told 247Sports reporters that Tennessee, Oregon, USC, and Ohio are programs who have maintained regular contact.

“There are some schools that I can tell they want me,” McNutt said. “And then some schools who aren’t showing as much interest or putting in the effort as others. It’s been a journey, and I am enjoying it.”

Recruiting Summary

Trey McNutt is a four-star safety out of Cleveland, Ohio, standing at 6-foot and ranking as the No. 23 overall prospect in the class of 2025. According to 247Sports, he’s the best among others at his position, standing at No. 1.

Colorado State transfer plans make official visit to Florida Gators

Ross-Simmons has a connection to UF already through a former teammate, giving an extra incentive to the former Colorado State Ram.

The Florida Gators have done well so far when it comes to fishing for prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Now the program is starting to dip into the transfer portal after its official opening on Tuesday, and they might’ve found a new wide receiver to add in their arsenal.

Colorado State transfer Justus Ross-Simmons was contacted by the Gators this week and it’s being reported by Swamp247 that both parties are working to set up an official visit.

“I haven’t set down and talked about any official visits or anything with them yet, but I’m pretty sure I will soon,” Ross-Simmons said. “Hopefully when I talk to them again, we can talk about an OV. Maybe sometime next week, but we need to talk about that more.”

Ross-Simmons has a connection to UF already through a former teammate, giving an extra incentive to the former Colorado State Ram.

“I got some interest in the Gators,” Ross-Simmons said. “I got a former teammate that attends (UF), that’s on the team right now, (quarterback) Clay Millen. Having someone I already know, boosts my confidence in a school because I trust Clay’s word.”

The sophomore transfer recorded 724 reception yards last season on top of 45 catches, but only scored three touchdowns in last season’s campaign. He’s still a solid option to have behind the likes of UF wideout Eugene Wilson III.

With the opening of the transfer portal this week, there are sure to be more candidates now that most programs have played through their spring schedules.

Gators set up official visit date for 2025 blue-chip linebacker

This Peach State product will be in Gainesville the final weekend of May.

The list of official visitors for the Florida football program this summer continues to grow at a frenetic pace as Billy Napier and his army of staffers continue to grind away on the recruiting front.

Adding to the names of high school prospects planning on making their way to Gainesville in a couple of months is four-star linebacker [autotag]Christian Gass[/autotag] out of Covington (Georgia) Eastside in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot-4-inch, 205-pound defender recently told Swamp247 that he plans on making his OV with the Orange and Blue on May 31.

Gass also has official visits set up with the USC Trojans (June 7), Georgia Bulldogs (June 14) and Kentucky Wildcats (June 21).

Previous visits to Florida

The high school junior has visited campus twice in the past year since receiving a scholarship offer in January. Gass’ fist stop came in February when he swung through the Swamp for a junior day event while following that up with another visit for the second spring intrasquad scrimmage.

He noted that off-field staffer Cannon Gibbs, co-defensive coordinator Ron Roberts and head coach Billy Napier are the members of staff that he speaks with the most.

Recruiting Summary

Gass is ranked No. 249 overall and No. 28 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 268 and 30, respectively.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine has Florida out in front with a 33.4% chance of signing him, followed by Kentucky (23.5%), USC (15.2%) and the Auburn Tigers (8.6%).

Florida basketball holds official visit with blue-chip combo guard this week

The Gators are hoping to make a big impression on this top combo guard this week.

A great deal of attention of late has been on Florida football’s recruiting effort but lost in the shuffle are what Todd Golden and the men’s basketball program have been up to when it comes to reloading a roster with some key departures from last season.

While there has also been a lot of focus on the NCAA transfer portal, the Gators have also been focused on prep prospects in the upcoming classes. One of the team’s focuses of late is four-star combo guard [autotag]Alex Lloyd[/autotag] out of Fort Lauderdale (Florida) Westminster Academy in the 2025 cycle, who is visiting campus early this week starting Monday, according to 247Sports.

The trip to Gainesville represents the second for the high school junior since receiving an offer from Golden and Co. in July of 2023. Lloyd’s first venture to the O’Connell Center came in November for the season-opener against the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds.

“That visit went well and they made me feel at home,” Lloyd said at the time. “The team felt like a great, family-oriented team. They’re very together and I like their program. I like how they push the ball, shoot threes, and play through their guards. That’s how I like to play.”

Florida currently has no commitments for the 2025 class.

Recruiting Summary

Lloyd is ranked No. 45 overall and No. 9 at combo guard nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at No. 51 overall and No. 13 at the small forward position.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine gives the Dayton Flyers a strong 70.7% chance of signing him, followed by the Florida State Seminoles (21.9%), Florida Atlantic Owls (1.7%) and Miami Hurricanes (1.4%).

Blue-chip South Florida WR sets official visit date with Gators

The Gators are looking to snatch this highly-prized pass-catcher from the grip of the ‘Canes.

Billy Napier’s Florida football program continues its grind on the high school recruiting front as the spring season continues to unfold. While spending a good deal of time on team practices and hosting prep prospects on campus, the Gators have also been filling up their official visit schedule.

Among the many names that have signed on for a trip to the Swamp this summer is four-star wide receiver [autotag]Cortez Mills[/autotag] out of Homestead (Florida) in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot-1-inch, 170-pound pass-catcher will be making his official visit with the Orange and Blue on June 17, according to 247Sports.

He also has visits set with the Clemson Tigers (May 31), Nebraska Cornhuskers (June 14) and Miami Hurricanes (June 21).

The coveted receiver was offered a scholarship last fall after his trip to see Florida defeat the Tennessee Volunteers at home. Mills had some visit plans fall through recently but his new OV schedule appears to be set in stone.

During his junior campaign in 2023, Mills caught 79 passes for 1,640 yards while scoring 18 touchdowns, earning him a Miami Herald All-Dade 4M-3M honor.

Recruiting summary

Mills is ranked No. 97 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 124 and 14, respectively.

The Sunshine State product has two crystal ball predictions for Miami while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives those same ‘Canes a 48.2% chance of signing him. Florida (15.6%), Nebraska (13.4%) and Clemson (8.4%) lag behind in the race for his talents.

Former Furman guard headed to Florida for official visit

This former Furman guard could be a good replacement for the departed Zyon Pullin.

The NCAA transfer portal has been a boon for Todd Golden and the Florida basketball program over the past couple of years as the Gators seek to return to the promised land experienced during Billy Donovan’s tenure.

The team has some openings on its roster after the departure of players like graduate students Zyon Pullin and Tyrese Samuel. As such, the de facto collegiate free agency system once again offers a solution to Golden’s lineup issues.

Former Furman point guard [autotag]JP Pegues[/autotag] has emerged as a potential replacement for Pullin among the transfer ranks. The ballhandler is set to visit the University of Florida on April 12, according to 247Sports.

JP Pegues’ stats

The 6-foot-1-inch, 185-pound junior was a first-team All-SoCon honoree in 2023-24, averaging 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 42% overall and 36.2% from three-point range.

During his sophomore season, he averaged 11.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game; Pegues averaged 11.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists during his freshman campaign.

He also ranked among the top 6.5% of Division I players in assist rate and averaged 4.6 fouls drawn per 40 minutes last season. Those fouls helped feed his 87% mark from the free-throw line, which landed him at No. 68 nationally.

Transfer portal rankings

Pegues is rated at four stars as a transfer portal prospect by 247Sports, coming in at No. 31 overall nationally while also ranked sixth at the point guard position. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, landing at No. 63 overall at his position in 2021.

Former Chattanooga forward names top schools, sets OV with Gators

The Gators are showing some keen interest in this Apopka-based forward who stood out in 2023-24.

Todd Golden and his Florida basketball program will be looking once again to reload their depleted roster through the NCAA transfer portal this offseason and several names of interest have already surfaced.

Among them is former Chattanooga Mocs forward [autotag]Sam Alexis[/autotag], who revealed his top six preferred schools to On3 on Wednesday and included the Gators. The other five institutions that made the cut for the 6-foot-9-inch, 225-pound sophomore out of Apopka, Florida, were the Georgia Bulldogs, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Providence Friars and Xavier Musketeers.

Alexis also plans on making an official visit to Gainesville from April 12-14, according to Swamp247; he also has a stop lined up with Providence from April 15-16, according to Joe Tipton of On3. The Sunshine State product has two years of eligibility remaining.

Background on Sam Alexis

Unranked coming out of high school, Alexis averaged 10.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, shooting at a 55% clip from the field while blocking 70 shots during the 2023-24 campaign. His efforts earned him a Southern Conference All-Defense team distinction as well as Third-Team All-Southern honors this past season.

Gators add Magnolia State tight end to upcoming official visit list

Florida is looking to make some inroads with this big 2025 tight end out of Mississippi with an official visit to the Swamp.

Billy Napier and Co.’s early summer schedule is quickly filling up as Florida football continues to slate some of the top prep prospects in the nation for official visits to the Swamp.

One of the latest names added to the list of visitors is three-star tight end [autotag]Micah Jones[/autotag] out of Madison (Mississippi) County in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot-5-inch, 245-pound end has visited the Gators twice this calendar year already and is now set to return for the weekend of May 31 on an official visit, according to Swamp247.

It is the first and only OV the high school junior has set so far.

Previous visit to the Swamp

On his most recent visit to Gainesville in March, Jones shadowed current freshman running back Kahnen Daniels to give the recruit an immersive experience on campus.

“Obviously (Daniels) is a Mississippi guy that went to Florida,” Jones said last month following the visit. “We kind of got a connection. I got to really ask questions of him and see how his experience has been there. The weather, you know the place.”

There were also lessons on how to communicate with the coaching staff as well as some other tricks of the trade.

“The coaches, with how you talk to them now is what you’re going to get even becoming a player. He told me early enrolling would be a good thing for me. Trying to get acclimated with college and the schedule. He’s been a real good person to talk to these past couple of days.”

Other schools in contention

While the three-star prospect has not officially released a list of preferred schools, he has dropped hints along the way for teams like the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels and Florida. The Colorado Buffaloes might also be in the mix as well.

Recruiting summary

Jones is ranked No. 460 overall and No. 27 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 583 and 32, respectively.

The Magnolia State product has a crystal ball prediction for Ole Miss according to 247Sports while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine also heavily favors the Rebs with a 90.3% chance of signing him. Florida and the Mississippi State Bulldogs lag well behind at 6.4% and 1.9%, respectively.
