Trae Young scores career-high 50 points against Miami Heat

The former Sooner point guard continues to make history in his second season in the NBA.

The former Sooner point guard continues to make history in his second season in the NBA.

Trae Young dropped 50 points against the Miami Heat last night, helping Atlanta squeak a 129-124 win at home.

Young, who has already logged nine 40+ point games this season, set a new career-high in his first game back from a memorable first All-Star Game appearance.

Shooting 8-15 behind the line while getting to the free-throw line 19 times, Young was efficient while willing the Hawks to just their sixteenth win of the season.

Alongside his fantastic scoring, Young hauled in two rebounds and dished out eight assists in his takeover.

To put the cherry on top of the night, Young gave his jersey to Migos member and Atlanta native, Quavo.

The performance set Twitter ablaze with people appointing Young as ‘the new Steph Curry’ while others admitted that they were wrong about Young when he was drafted in 2018.

On the season, Young is averaging 30.1 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, and 9.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4%from the field and 37.4% from three.

Trae Young takes shot at Jimmy Butler after dropping 50 points on the Heat

Trae Young went off, then got one final shot in at the Heat’s Jimmy Butler.

Trae Young went off on Thursday night in the Hawks’ first game since the All-Star break, scoring 50 points in a 129-124 win over the Miami Heat.

Young looked fired up from the tip, and, once he stretched the floor with few very deep 3s, he started attacking the rim — he finished with 19 free throws, making 18 of them. Throw in a night when he hit 8 of 15 from beyond the arc, and that’s how you get your first 50-point game.

Young kept the celebration going after the game, too, taking a shot at Jimmy Butler on Twitter.

For some context: In December, the Hawks were playing the Heat and Young prematurely celebrated, screaming “it’s over!” with about a minute remaining after a big bucket. The Hawks then blew a six-point lead in the final minute.

After that game, Butler put a video out on Instagram with the caption: “this man @traeyoung is a teller of the future. he was right. game WAS over!”

Last night, after Young dropped 50, he got to have the last laugh:

We’ll wait to see if Butler responds.

In meantime, watch highlights of Young going off:

Trae will be cold against the Heat

Trae Young failed to score more than 30 points in the two games prior to the All-Star Break and hasn’t scored more than 24 points in his six career games against the Heat. Miami has the top-ranked opponent’s 3-point percentage and allows the third-fewest 3-pointers made by point guards in the NBA. Furthermore, the Heat surrender the second-fewest points per game to point guards. Lastly, the Hawks are the worst team in the NBA in 3-point percentage so it’ll be much easier for the Heat to focus on their one offensive bright spot in Young.

LeVert could light up Sixers

(Photo credit: Wendell Cruz – USA TODAY Sports)

Caris LeVert’s rebounds, assists and points combined projection of 26.5 is too low. Granted I can make sense of it; Philadelphia allows the fewest fantasy points per game to shooting guards and has an elite defensive backcourt between NBA Defensive Player of the Year candidate Ben Simmons and Josh Richardson.

But LeVert was playing really well before the All-Star break and he had 28 combined points, rebounds and assists in his last game against the Sixers Jan. 20. He averaged 33 combined rebounds, assists and points in his last five games. Keep in mind Kyrie Irving’s return to the lineup was pushed back this past week after suffering a setback in rehabbing an injured shoulder, so the Nets are going to need to rely on more production for LeVert.

Bridges will ball up the Bulls

(Photo credit: Jeremy Brevard – USA TODAY Sports)

There is a lot of positive momentum for Miles Bridges as he won the 2020 NBA Rising Stars MVP award. Before the All-Star break, the second-year small forward out of Michigan State has broken out of whatever sophomore slump he may have had and is getting buckets. Bridges has averaged 20.3 points per game over his last seven contests. Plus, Bridges will have an easier time finishing around the basket since the Bulls will be without both starting frontcourt players in Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr.  Finally, I view juiced up vig on Bridges Over 14.5 (-125) as a positive because BetMGM knows Bridges is playing well lately and they’d like to scare bettors from cashing in on his recent performance.

BET Miles Bridges over 14.5 (-125) points

Trae Young notches double-double in first NBA All-Star Game

The former Oklahoma star got his feet wet in the NBA All-Star Game. Trae Young played only 15 minutes but notched a double-double.

The former Oklahoma star got his feet wet in the NBA’s biggest weekend.

Trae Young was named an NBA All-Star, and an NBA All-Star starter, for Team Giannis in only his second season with the Atlanta Hawks.

Though it wasn’t the flashiest night for the former Sooners point guard, Young did have the biggest highlight of the night. He hit a half court shot as time was expiring heading into halftime.

Young also put perennial All-Star James Harden on a highlight, despite missing the layup, as he nutmegged Harden through his legs.

For the night, Young scored 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-6 from three and added 10 assists for a double-double. He played a total of 15 minutes after getting the start. Young did not start the second half nor played any of the fourth-quarter with the Elam Ending.

Young’s team, Team Giannis, lost to Team LeBron 15_-153 in the Elam Ending that ended the NBA All-Star Game at 157 points.

The Atlanta star is averaging 29.7 points per game, good for third in the entire NBA, with 9.2 assists on 44.3 percent shooting, including 36.9 percent from beyond the arc in his second season.

The Hawks had the third-worst record in the NBA heading into the NBA All-Star weekend at 15-41. Young and Atlanta will begin the post-NBA All-Star Break at home against Miami on Thursday.

Trae Young hits half court shot before halftime in NBA All-Star Game

There may not be enough room to mask Trae Young’s range. The former Sooners hit a half court shot at the NBA All-Star Game.

There may not be enough room on a basketball court to mask Trae Young’s range.

The former Oklahoma star has lit up the NBA with the same flair and boundless shooting ability in his first two years with the Atlanta Hawks. Young was named an NBA All-Star starter, and though his NBA All-Star Game debut has gone relatively quiet, the Oklahoma native made his presence known right before halftime by hitting a half court shot as time expired.

The Hawks star was 2-of-6 from the floor prior to hitting the half court shot. Young’s make before halftime gave him eight points to go along with his game-leading seven assists.

For Atlanta this year, Young is averaging 29.7 points per game, good for third in the entire NBA, with 9.2 assists on 44.3 percent shooting, including 36.9 percent from beyond the arc.

In his lone season at Oklahoma, Young became the first player to lead the country in points (27.4) and assists (8.4) a game. He went on to be a consensus All-American and the recipient of the Wayman Tisdale Award for college basketball’s most outstanding freshman.

Young’s team, Team Giannis, is up 92-83 on Team LeBron at halftime. The rest of the game can be found on TNT.

The former Oklahoma guard put on a clinic in Chicago on Saturday night, winning the NBA 3-Point Contest on his last shot.

Hield needed 26 to tie Phoenix Suns guard, and 2018 NBA 3-Point Contest winner, Devin Booker. Hield closed the door with a money ball as time expired to crown himself as the 2020 three-point contest champion.

In his opening round, Hield tied Booker for first place with 27 points.

Hield is in his fourth season in the NBA and set a record for most 3-pointers made through three seasons. So far this season, Hield is averaging 20.4 points per game. From deep, Hield is averaging 3.8 makes per game and 9.9 shots attempted per game good for a 38.5 percent shooting from 3-point range.

Hield was a part of the 2016 Final Four team and was drafted sixth overall in the 2016 draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. He won the Naismith Trophy following that Final Four run, awarded to the men’s college basketball player who achieves great success on the court.
