Knicks at Hawks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Hawks 124, Knicks 117

Moneyline (ML)

The Knicks (+155) are coming off a 122-115 loss at the Washington Wizards Tuesday, dropping them to 3-3 across their last six games. The HAWKS (-189) beat the Charlotte Hornets 143-138 in double overtime Monday to improve to 5-5 across their last 10 outings. The Hawks are 14-19 at home, while the Knicks are just 9-23 on the road.

The season series is split 1-1 coming into Wednesday. The Knicks won 143-120 on home court Dec. 17, and the Hawks took care of business at home Feb. 9 with a 140-135 win in double overtime. Atlanta has been strong with a rest advantage this season. It’s 8-5 straight up with the advantage over its opposition while winning by an average of 1.2 points per game.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Hawks to win returns a profit of $5.30.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get better value on the hosts by backing the HAWKS (-4.5, -110) to win by at least 5 points on home court. Atlanta is just 29-35-2 ATS overall but a very strong 19-12-2 at home. New York is 34-30-1 ATS overall but just 16-15-1 on the road. Again, the rest advantage is key for the Hawks, as they’re 9-3-1 in such situations and cover by an average of 4.8 PPG.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the OVER 232.5 (-110) in this clash of Eastern Conference bottom feeders. Both meetings so far this season crushed Wednesday’s projected total, and while the second meeting went to double overtime, there were still 232 points scored in regulation. The two teams combine to score 216.8 PPG, but they allow a combined 231.5 PPG.

Hornets at Hawks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Hornets 118, Hawks 110

Moneyline (ML)

Two bottom-six teams in the Eastern Conference clash Monday at State Farm Arena. The HORNETS (+150) carry higher odds than they should possess against the heavily-favored Hawks (-182). The Hornets are 12-20 on the road for the season and 5-5 across their last 10 games, while the Hawks are just 13-19 on home court and 4-6 across their last 10 games overall.

Take the value given out by the books and back the healthier Hornets in what should be a toss-up game. Charlotte is coming off a 108-99 win over the Houston Rockets Saturday and recently beat the Toronto Raptors 99-96, as well. The Hawks have dropped three straight, including a 118-101 setback against the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday. The Hornets have been the better team all season, though the Hawks picked up a 122-107 win in the only head-to-head meeting to date. Still, never lay -182 odds on a last-place team.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Hornets to win returns a profit of $15.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The moneyline is a better and more profitable play for the visitors, but the HORNETS (+4.5, -115) should also be backed on the spread with 4 points of insurance in the event of a loss. Charlotte is 33-30 ATS overall and 17-15 ATS on the road. Atlanta is 29-35-1 ATS overall but 19-12-1 on home court. They’re 4-2-1 ATS in just seven games as a home favorite.

Both teams last played Saturday and Charlotte is 18-15 ATS when playing on equal rest as its opposition. Atlanta is just 14-22 ATS in those situations and loses by an average of 9.7 points per game.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 223.5 (-115) with the injury-riddled Hawks struggling mightily on defense of late and likely to allow the Hornets to provide the bulk of the scoring. Atlanta has given up at least 117 points in seven straight games. The Hornets haven’t scored more than 112 points in any of their last nine games, but they’ll receive a dramatic boost Monday.

Prediction

Wizards 128, Hawks 104

Moneyline (ML)

Trae Young (illness) hitting the injury report is concerning for anyone looking to back Atlanta (+145) since they are 2-4 straight up in games without Young. The Hawks won the last meeting against the Wizards (-176), 152-133 Jan 26, but that was keyed by Young’s 45 points and 14 assists. The season series is split 1-1, and these two teams have alternated wins and covers in each of their last 10 meetings.

The Hawks are an abysmal 14-29 with a minus-7 average margin of victory, and the Wizards are a decent 18-20. I have more faith in Washington’s ability to bounce back than an Atlanta team that has the worst road record in the NBA (6-25) and is only 2-9 in Friday games. But, we are going to PASS ON THE STEEP MONEYLINE in favor of a line wager.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Washington enters today’s game with at least a fighting chance at earning a playoff berth while the Hawks are the second-worst team in the East. The Hawks were routed in its last game, 127-88, by the Memphis Grizzlies Monday as was Washington by the Portland Trail Blazers, 125-104, Wednesday. Many of the Hawks cited effort as the reason for the beating, and it should certainly be a question mark with nothing to play for a banged-up roster.

The Wizards -3.5 (-110) are 16-13 ATS at home and 8-10 ATS at home versus losing teams. Atlanta is a poor 10-18 ATS on the road and 4-11 ATS on the road versus losing teams. Definitely monitor the injury report up until game time, but based on the current info, WIZARDS -3.5 (-110) is the sharp play.

Over/Under (O/U)

It’s rare to see a total as high as 245.5, but the last Hawks-Wizards meeting was one of the highest-scoring games in the NBA this season. Both have a propensity to play in shootouts:  Atlanta and Washington have the fourth- and fifth-highest Over percentage in the NBA. But a Young-less Hawks team is a lot less offensively productive. Atlanta has gone Under the projected total in each of the six games Young has missed.

BET UNDER 245.5 (-115).

Prediction

Grizzlies 133, Hawks 123

Moneyline (ML)

The Grizzlies (+110) snapped a five-game losing streak (overall and against the spread) when they upset the Los Angeles Lakers, 105-88, at home on Saturday. The Hawks (-134) have won back-to-back games, and four out of six (overall and against the spread), including 129-117 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.

These are no longer the Grit & Grind Grizzlies that were making consecutive postseason appearances, but this team does play with grit that Atlanta doesn’t generally match. Memphis ranks 10th in second-chance points, fourth in fast break points and first at points in the paint. They are going against a Hawks team that ranks second to last in opponent’s second-chance points and opponents ‘points in the paint, plus 22nd in opponents’ fast-break points. The Grizzlies excel at what the Hawks struggle with, and they are in a dogfight for the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference playoffs – so they NEED this game.

HAMMER GRIZZLIES +110 on the moneyline.

New to sports betting? Bet $100 on Grizzlies to earn a profit of $100 if they upset the Hawks.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE SPREAD (+1.5, -106) and make the moneyline the main play. However, since this game is trending to being a coin flip, we can use this section (and against the spread trends) to strengthen our moneyline handicap.

Memphis has performed better than Atlanta in non-conference games:  the Grizzlies have a 10-10 record against Eastern Conference teams, while the Hawks are 9-13 versus teams from the West. Memphis is a tad better ATS team on the road against losing teams (8-7 ATS) than Atlanta is at home versus losing teams (5-5-1 ATS).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Hawks have an Over/Under record of 38-24, which is extraordinary because theoretically, bookmakers price Atlanta totals higher given their defense is terrible and offense chucks the eighth-most three-pointers in the NBA. In non-conference games, the combined O/U record of these teams is 27-15 and Atlanta home games have a 19-12 O/U record. The Hawks defense will have little resistance against the Grizzlies whose defense allows the 23rd most points per game.

BET OVER 239.5 (-115).

Trail Blazers at Hawks: Odds, lines, picks, and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:30 a.m. E.T.

Prediction

Hawks 120, Trail Blazers 111

Moneyline (ML)

The HAWKS (-121) are slight home favorites against the Trail Blazers, despite Portland being without their best player in Damian Lillard. The Trail Blazers have been in a slump without Lillard, losing five of their last six games. And while the Hawks certainly haven’t been great, they have played better basketball since the All-Star break. Take Atlanta to win at home on Saturday night.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The HAWKS (-1.5, -110) are less than a basket favorite over the Trail Blazers on Saturday night. Without Lillard, Portland has been awful against the spread, failing to cover in the five of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Hawks have fared well against Western Conference opponents this season, covering in nine of their last 12 games against the opposing conference. Given how low this spread is, take the Hawks to cover this spread at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this Saturday night contest is set at 236.5, which feels about right considering how much these two teams have struggled on defense this season. Both the Trail Blazers and the Hawks ranked among the bottom five teams in the league on defense as each side is allowing more than 115 points per game. However, without Lillard, the Trail Blazers’ offense has been less than stellar, and that should allow the UNDER to hit in Atlanta.

Nets at Hawks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Nets 102, Hawks 93

Moneyline (ML)

The NETS (-154) are moderate favorites on the road against the banged-up Hawks (+125). Brooklyn is also looking to pull off the four-game regular-season series sweep. The Nets are 3-0 straight up and against the spread in their previous three meetings wit the Hawks, winning by an average margin of 120 to 105.3.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Nets ML returns a profit of $6.50 if they win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the NETS (-2.5, -115), as they have owned the Hawks (+2.5, -106) all season. Atlanta has a lengthy list of injuries, so Brooklyn should have the advantage yet again. While Brooklyn is just 4-10 ATS in the past 14 on the road, it’s an impressive 7-3 ATS in the past 10 as a favorite. Brooklyn has also dominated this series, going 7-1 ATS in the previous eight overall, and the Nets are 5-1 ATS in the past six trips to the ATL.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 233.5 (-110) is an amazing value, and you should definitely take advantage here. Atlanta just has too many injury issues, and Brooklyn is still trying to find someone to fill the void left by Irving. The Under is 7-3 in the past 10 overall for the Nets, and 5-2 in their past seven on the road. While the Over is 12-2 in Atlanta’s past 14 at home, the Under is 13-4-1 in the past 18 meetings in this series, and 6-2 in the past eight in Atlanta.

Hawks

Magic at Hawks: Odds, lines, picks, and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Magic 112, Hawks 109

Moneyline (ML)

The MAGIC (-139) are slight road favorites over the Hawks (+115) in Atlanta. While Orlando has been the far better team this season, Atlanta has gotten hot at home, winning six of their previous seven games at State Farm Arena. Still, the Magic have the top-ranked defense in the NBA and should be able to hold down the Hawks to get the win in Atlanta.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAGIC (-2.5, -110) are one-basket favorites and will need to win by just 3 points to cover the spread. Both sides have struggled against the spread this season, but it’s the Magic who are currently in the midst of a bigger cold streak. Over their last 13 games, they have been able to cover the spread just three times. With this spread set so low and the Magic being the better team, I’m taking them to win and cover.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this Eastern Conference matchup is set for 229.5 points, which feels a bit high considering how dominant Orlando’s defense has been this season. They are allowing just 105.8 points per game. While Atlanta can certainly put up points with ease, I expect Orlando to keep them under 110 points, which will allow for the UNDER 229.5 (-115) to hit.

NBA Player Prop Bet Payday: ‘Stifle Tower’ will stop Ayton

Highlighting Monday’s best NBA player props with odds, analysis and picks.

Eight games tip-off Monday in the Association and the slate is lackluster with only two of the scheduled games featuring playoff teams. Good thing we can find some derivative bets to make this ho-hum NBA card more exciting. Here are some NBA player props you can fade or follow ahead of tonight’s action:

JRich needs to step up versus Hawks

Richardson is familiar with the Atlanta Hawks since he played with their Southeast Division rival, the Miami Heat, in his first four seasons in the NBA. He has scored 19 or more points in six of his 10 career starts against the Hawks.

Furthermore, it’ll be expected of Richardson to pick up the slack offensively since Ben Simmons is definitely out with injury and Tobias Harris is expected to miss the game against Atlanta. He should cash in on those opportunities because the Hawks surrender the seventh-most points per game to shooting guards in the NBA. This is the major reason I am not tripping about the 16.5-point price for Richardson against Atlanta. BetMGM oddsmakers know that he’s going to get more usage in this one and they are setting the line appropriately. Don’t be scared off by the price.

BET OVER Josh Richardson 16.5 points (-112)

Nunn will Heat up against Cavs

Nunn scored 24 points in his last game, which was against these very Cavaliers, on February 22. Cleveland gives up the sixth-most points per game to point guards and three opposing starting point guards have scored 24 or more points against the Cavs in their last five games.

Also, Miami’s leading scorer, Jimmy Butler, is expected to be sidelined this game and it would be his 10th missed game of the season. In the previous nine games, Butler was out Nunn has scored 20+ in four of them and averages 18.2 points per game in those contests.

BET OVER Kendrick Nunn 17.5 points (-106)

This prop is more about who Deandre Ayton is going against than he himself. He has scored 25+ points in four of his last six overall games, but Ayton averages just 10.3 points per game in his three career starts against the Utah Jazz.

Rudy Gobert is the defending, back-to-back, Defensive Player of the Year and hasn’t missed a beat this season. The Stifel Tower is eighth in defensive rating, second in defensive win shares, second in defensive rebounds per game and fifth in blocks per game. He and the Jazz have allowed just 14.9 points per game to starting centers over their past 10 games.

BET UNDER Deandre Ayton 18.5 points (-112)
