Chiefs vs. Chargers: Patrick Mahomes, Xavier Worthy strike for long touchdown

Check out this video of #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ outstanding touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy against the #Chargers in Week 4.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense took some time to get in rhythm against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon but finally found their groove when Patrick Mahomes hit Xavier Worthy for a 54-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The outstanding play came after a disastrous start for Mahomes at SoFi Stadium and effectively kick-started Kansas City’s effort to earn a fourth consecutive win to start the regular season.

Star wide receiver Rashee Rice sustained a knee injury in the first quarter, and Worthy stepped up when the Chiefs needed him most to get Kansas City on the board.

Check out this video of Worthy’s incredible catch, which was posted by the Chiefs’ official account on Twitter:

This game is far from over, but this pitch and catch from Mahomes and Worthy may be just what Kansas City needed to get into winning form against the Chargers.

Stay tuned to see if the Chiefs can stay hot in Los Angeles.

Derek Carr threw his third career pick-six against the Falcons

Troy Andersen returned a Derek Carr interception for a touchdown. This was Carr’s third career pick-six vs. the Falcons, and his second with the Saints:

The Atlanta Falcons scored their second non-offensive touchdown of the first half courtesy of Derek Carr pick six. The Saints were looking for screen pass, but linebacker Matthew Judon deflected the ball into the air. After lingering in the air, linebacker Troy Andersen brought the ball in and returned it for a touchdown.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an uncommon occurrence for Carr. In his career, Carr has thrown three pick sixes to Atlanta in his career. He’s only faced the Falcons five times through his now 12 seasons in the NFL.

It’s the second time Carr has thrown an interception that was returned for a touchdown by the Falcons with the Saints. Last year, Carr had a memorable moment where he congratulated Jessie Bates III for making a good play.

It was an odd moment, but it’s one he likely wouldn’t repeat again. This one was a bit more of an unfortunate play than last year’s interception.

Overall, Carr has thrown the third-most pick-sixes in the NFL among active quarterbacks.

Taysom Hill scores two early touchdown runs against the Falcons

We told you Taysom Hill was a Falcons killer. The Saints’ star scored a pair of early touchdown runs in Sunday’s rivalry game:

We told you Taysom Hill was an Atlanta Falcons killer. The New Orleans Saints’ star tight end scored a pair of early touchdown runs in Sunday’s rivalry game, fighting his way into the end zone to give his team the lead. He also took a handoff to convert on fourth down.

That also put Hill up to 11 touchdowns scored against the Falcons in 15 career games, having put up points as a runner, receiver, and passer. That’s an impressive tally.

Unfortunately Hill later left for the locker room and was seen clutching his chest. He missed last week’s game with the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a bruised lung so this could be related. He’s obviously a big part of what the Saints want to do against Atlanta, so hopefully he can return, but his health is what’s most important.

Rashid Shaheed made a very rare, but very costly mistake vs. Falcons

An All-Pro punt returner can’t make mistakes like this, and Rashid Shaheed isn’t known for them. But it was a costly error against the Falcons:

An All-Pro punt returner can’t make mistakes like this, and Rashid Shaheed isn’t known for them. But the New Orleans Saints specialist’s muffed punt was a costly error against the Atlanta Falcons. Shaheed made the bad call to try and field a Falcons punt inside his own 5-yard line, but an awkward angle put him too far in front of it, and he couldn’t make a clean catch.

Instead, the ball glanced off of him and  into the end zone where a flock of Falcons fell on top of it. That’s a worst-case scenario. So rather than take over inside their own territory  with a chance to take the lead, the Saints offense had to fight uphill against a deficit when they finally got on the field.

Hopefully Shaheed learned from this mistake. His coaches trusted him to go back in the game and receive the ensuing kickoff, so they clearly expect him to bounce bac. Now it’s on him to prove that faith is warranted.

Jayhawks at Arrowhead: Kansas RB Daniel Hishaw Jr. scores impressive touchdown

Check out this video of #Jayhawks RB Daniel Hishaw Jr. scoring a touchdown during Kansas’ matchup against the TCU at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs won’t be playing at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend, but the Kansas Jayhawks are doing their best to put on a show for fans in the defending Super Bowl champions’ absence.

The Jayhawks entered their matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs with a chip on their shoulders after a disappointing 1-3 start to their 2024 season.

Kansas put together an impressive showing in the first half of their tilt against TCU and opened up the third quarter with a six-minute drive that ended with a touchdown scored by running back Daniel Hishaw Jr.

Check out this video of the speedster’s score that gave the Jayhawks a lead early in the second half:

Hishaw, who joined Kansas in 2020, is part of the Jayhawks’ outstanding ground game, which is usually spearheaded by star running back Devin Neal.

If Hishaw and Neal can continue to dominate the Horned Frogs through the rest of this game, the Jayhawks should be able to secure victory at Arrowhead Stadium.

Jamaal Williams downplays his late touchdown last year vs. Falcons

Jamaal Williams downplayed the significance of his late touchdown against the Falcons last year: ‘It’ll be forgotten soon, don’t worry’

This week, Jamaal Williams downplayed his last-minute touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in 2023’s regular season finale. Jameis Winston became the face of the moment when the New Orleans Saints ran up the score on their rivals, but Williams was the one who carried the ball into the end zone.

That was the last offensive play of the Saints’ season and resulted in Williams’ first and only touchdown of the year. Of course it was brought back up this week with the Falcons game coming up, but Williams doesn’t see it as a big deal. Atlanta fired head coach Arthur Smith and brought in sweeping changes this offseason, but Williams about to take the blame for that.

“I don’t think my touchdown was the reason for all of those (changes),” Williams laughed. When Smith’s dismissal was brought up, Williams pointed to his status as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator in downplaying the significance of his TD: “He’s good, he’s on another team. It’s not like he’s out here homeless. He got another job. What are we talking about? It’ll be forgotten soon, don’t worry.”

Williams believes his play should be soon forgotten. He compared it to Mark Sanchez’ infamous “Butt Fumble.” This was a bad, yet accurate example. If Williams was trying to bring up a play that was forgotten in time, the ‘Butt Fumble’ is not one of those.

Over 10 years, that play is still brought up. 10 years later, Williams’ touchdown may still be discussed by Saints fans. If it was against any other team, Williams would be correct. In a rivalry as petty as Saints versus Falcons, this will be one of those memories that lives on.

The aftermath of it from Dennis Allen and Arthur Smith meeting on the field to Winston’s press conference after the game is too memorable.

Chiefs vs. Falcons: Patrick Mahomes finds JuJu Smith-Schuster for touchdown

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes found veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster for a touchdown in Kansas City’s Week 3 matchup against the #Falcons.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has struggled to start the 2024 regular season, and for the first half of their Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, it seemed that the defending champions would continue the trend.

After Patrick Mahomes threw an interception on Kansas City’s first drive, Atlanta seemed to have an early advantage.

But, when the Chiefs opened the second half with the ball, Mahomes and Kansas City’s passing game finally began to click, and they marched with ease toward the endzone.

At the end of a long drive, Mahomes hit veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster for a touchdown.

Take a look at this video of the perfectly executed catch and score by Smith-Schuster, which was posted by the Chiefs’ official Twitter account:

With the injury to veteran wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, other receivers such as Smith-Schuster will be needed in big spots during Kansas City’s 2024 regular season campaign.

Chris Olave beat C.J. Gardner-Johnson for go-ahead TD

Chris Olave beat C.J. Gardner-Johnson for a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles got the last laugh:

The New Orleans Saints took the lead late in the fourth quarter on the back of a Chris Olave toe-tap touchdown grab, where he beat Philadelphia Eagles safety (and former Saints standout) C.J. Gardner-Johnson, gettting to the edge of the end zone. This put the Saints up 12-7 with a two-point conversion attempt coming up short.

Olave had a solid day to that point as well, with 6 receptions for 85 yards and the touchdown. The Saints’ receiving corps struggled for much of the game, primarily because the pass game was not effective due to offensive line troubles and spotty ball placement from Derek Carr. Unfortunately the Eagles re-took the lead and won the game after this, but Olave had an exceptional day regardless.

NFL has gotten millions of views promoting Derek Carr’s TD celebration

The NFL has gotten millions of views promoting Derek Carr’s TD celebration on social media. They thanked him for it with a $14,069 fine:

This isn’t a good look for the NFL. The league has gotten millions of views promoting Derek Carr’s touchdown celebration against the Dallas Cowboys on social media, complete with an explanation for why he paid tribute to the late “King of Pop” Michael Jackson. Then the NFL thanked the New Orleans Saints quarterback for creating this highlight reel moment with a $14,069 fine.

On TikTok alone the clip has been viewed more than 267,000 times. It’s created even more engagement on Instagram with more than 1.6 million views. It’s since spread far and wide across the Internet as evidence that this 2024 Saints team is different from what fans have had to watch in recent years. And, sure, it’s a great clip. In his postgame press conference Carr joked that he borrowed Jackson’s choreography to remind his kids and younger teammates that he has some dance moves.

At the same time, the people issuing fines from the league office in New York are not the same people editing videos to post online every Sunday. Of course they’re going to react differently when a player grabs his crotch after scoring a touchdown and laughs about it after the game. But that doesn’t make this any less hypocritical. Company policy should be standard across departments. Either outlaw gestures like this (Carr wasn’t penalized for it during the game, by the way) or let it slide and get those clicks, reactions, and impressions online. Not even the NFL should get to have its cake and eat it too.

Rashid Shaheed, Chris Olave could be in line for big games vs. Eagles

Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed could feast on an Eagles secondary that’s given up the third-most yards to receivers this season so far:

https://twitter.com/pff_saints/status/1836817573129736604

Numbers suggest a big game could be in store for Rashid Shaheed, Chris Olave and the New Orleans Saints wide receivers corps

Not including the New England Patriots who have played three games, the Philadelphia Eagles have allowed the fifth most passing yards in the NFL.

If you boil down those yards strictly to catches made by receivers, the Eagles allow the third most yards wide receivers despite having Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell at cornerback.

For Shaheed, this could mean more of the same. He’s been Derek Carr’s favorite target and team leader in yards against both the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers. A large percentage of of his yardage came on the touchdown in this game. You could see him receive more targets and become more involved beyond the deep shot.

Olave still feels like he hasn’t been completely unlocked. He was more productive in the second game. His 81 receiving yards is solid, but it still feels like there’s another level. This could be completely be because the Saints are putting up so many points that it feels like your top receiver should be putting up monster numbers.

This could be the game where Olave goes over the century mark, or gets into the touchdown. If the Saints really feel dangerous, Olave may achieve both for the first time this week.
