Zach Wilson’s family was pumped up after his trade to Broncos

Zach Wilson’s mom said she’s excited for the QB to have a “fresh new start” with the Broncos.

After the Denver Broncos agreed to trade a sixth-round pick to the New York Jets in exchange for Zach Wilson and a seventh-round pick on Monday, the quarterback’s family quickly took to social media to celebrate.

Wilson’s mom, Lisa, shared videos on her Instagram story showing multiple Broncos flags in their front yard alongside orange and blue balloons. The family likely knew about the possibility of the trade and had time to prepare — they also live in Utah so they might already be fans, and it’s likely easy to find Broncos gear at their local stores.

“Excited for a fresh new start,” Lisa captioned one of her Instagram stories. “Let’s go!”

In another post: “Surround yourself with People the love you, cheer for you and want you to succeed.”

Later in the day, Lisa posted a video showing friends and family celebrating the trade with Broncos gear and flags at what appears to be a frozen yogurt shop.

Welcome to Denver, Zach Wilson. Judging from the social media posts, the QB’s family seems to be fired up about his new opportunity with the Broncos.

Scottie Scheffler’s putting coach has hilarious Masters response to social media troll

A picture is worth a thousand words (and 280 characters).

One of the biggest storylines entering this PGA Tour season was Scottie Scheffler’s putting woes.

The world No. 1 had struggled with the flatstick and after last year’s Tour Championship at East Lake talked with his agent, Blake Smith, about seeing a putting coach on the plane ride home. Scheffler has seen PGA Master Professional and putting coach Phil Kenyon work with different types of players over the years and he appreciated his approach.

“As I watched Phil, I could tell that he was open-minded, and that’s the type of people I like to work with,” Scheffler said Sunday after he won his second Masters in three years. “And we kind of hit the ground running in the fall. I can’t speak highly enough of the decision that (swing coach Randy Smith) also made to be open-minded, not take an ego to it, sit there, watch us work, watch Phil do his thing.”

“Phil is also a guy that doesn’t have a big ego. He just wants what’s best for his players,” Scheffler added. “I’m really, really fortunate to have those two guys as part of my team.”

He might not have a big ego but we now know Kenyon keeps receipts. Back in March, a social media troll said “Phil Kenyon is destroying Scottie” in response to a photo of the two working together at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Scheffler went on to win that tournament and then the Players Championship before a T-2 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and his recent Masters triumph. A month later, Kenyon got the last laugh.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In Kenyon’s case, it’s also better than 280 characters.

Chiefs DB Justin Reid hints at retirement in April Fools’ Day social media post

Justin Reid gave #Chiefs fans a scare on Monday when he hinted that he might retire in a post to social media on April Fools’ Day

The annual reminder to the world to always be a little skeptical of announcements and news circulating, better known as April Fools’ Day, hasn’t gone unnoticed by a key member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Veteran defensive back and occasional placekicker Justin Reid gave Chiefs Kingdom a scare early Monday morning with a tweet indicating he was retiring.

The cryptic post was followed shortly by a GIF of Jim Carrey hiding. Reid extended his comedic post with a fun letter modeled after a parody social media account of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

Reid is entering the last year of his contract with the Chiefs. He has been vital to the defense’s success in the previous two years, so his joke was more than a fun scare for many following his popular X account.

Cameron Jordan criticizes NFL’s rule banning hip-drop tackles

The NFL ignored complaints from the players association and voted to ban the hip-drop tackle. Cameron Jordan took issue with the rule change:

A big change is coming to the NFL. League ownership ignored complaints from the players union and voted to ban the hip-drop tackle on Monday, and big names around the league weren’t happy. New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan took issue with the rule change on social media.

Now, officials will be penalizing defenders for tackling offensive players around the waist and leaving the ground with both feet — resulting in a 15-yard foul and automatic first down for the offense. It’s a change in the name of safety after some high-profile players were injured on routine tackles last season.

But implementing it will be a challenge. Officials already struggle to get many penalties and penalty-worthy plays right, and this is something that can’t be practiced given the limited contact at training camp and summer workouts. It’s an unpopular move with players and a difficult task for officials, but team owners are determined to see it through anyway.

Jameis Winston thanks New Orleans for embracing him, says goodbye to Saints fans

Jameis Winston said goodbye to Saints fans in a last look back before signing with the Browns, thanking New Orleans for embracing him:

Jameis Winston formally put pen to paper on his new contract with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, but before doing that he made time to thank New Orleans Saints fans for embracing him during his four years with the team.

Winston shared a highlight reel of his favorite memories and touchdown passes in a Saints uniform on social media, along with a long goodbye message expressing his gratitude for everything he experienced in New Orleans. It’s a classy tribute to a memorable stretch of his NFL career.

“Trust and believe that y’all haven’t seen the last of Jaboo,” Winston said at the end of his letter, again thanking fans in the community for their support.

He’ll be back sooner than you think: Winston’s new Browns team is scheduled to visit the Saints for a home game at the Caesars Superdome in the fall. Depending on when that game kicks off and how far along Deshaun Watson is in recovering from surgery on his throwing shoulder, it just might be Winston making the start against his former team.

Whose social media posts earn more: World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler or Paige Spiranac? It’s not even close

Here’s how much the average pro golf gets per post … vs. the same for a golf influencer.

After winning a second consecutive Players Championship, Scottie Scheffler has cemented himself as the world’s No. 1 player, according to both the Official World Golf Ranking and the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

But while Scheffler overcame neck issues to win at TPC Sawgrass, becoming the first player to defend in the tournament’s history, his social media posts can’t come close to demanding the same return as those of influencer Paige Spiranac.

In fact, according to a story at Vegas Insider, Spiranac’s posts often get about four times as much as those from Scheffler, who now has eight PGA Tour victories and a major on his resume.

More from the story:

Spiranac averages around $8,477 to $12,716 per post when using a standard influencer calculation method, which factors in engagement rate per post, extras for the type of post, and additional considerations, culminating in the total rate. On the other hand, Scottie Scheffler, a notable figure in the PGA Golf tour and holding the highest Instagram follower count among his peers on the list with 625,622 followers, only garners an average of $2,000 to $3,000 per post using the same calculation method making Spiranac’s cost per post approximately four times more expensive.

Alex Romo, a prominent golf influencer with the lowest Instagram follower count on the list, just under 40,000 followers, potentially averages $207 to $311 per Instagram post, following industry standards. Meanwhile, professional golfer Chris Kirk, boasting six PGA Tour victories and an average of about 20,000 followers, manages to generate only about $140 to $211 per post, indicating that despite his accolades, his social media presence equates to the same cost as that of a sponsored post by a golf influencer.

According to stats from the website, the average pro golfer gets just less than $1,000 per post while the average golf influencer gets nearly $5,000 per post.

Dez Bryant applauds Chiefs’ signing of WR Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown

Former Pro Bowler Dez Bryant applauded the #Chiefs’ signing of WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in a post to Twitter.

The Kansas City Chiefs excited many in the football world with their one-year agreement with free agent wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

One of the many spectators who have thoughts on the signing was former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant, who posted on social media about his excitement and appreciation for Kansas City’s latest move in free agency.

Bryant was a teammate of Brown’s during the 2020 season when both of the wide receivers played for the Baltimore Ravens. After officially signing with the Chiefs, Brown immediately reposted Bryant on X, showing the respect the former teammates still have for one another.

Bryant played ten seasons in the NFL, earning three Pro Bowl selections during his time with the Dallas Cowboys. In retirement, Bryant has become a vocal fan, posting to social media about anything and everything related to NFL football and sharing his thoughts about each team’s decisions with fans during the offseason.

Zack Baun says goodbye to Saints fans after ‘unforgettable’ 4 years in New Orleans

Zack Baun said goodbye to Saints fans after an “unforgettable” four years in New Orleans. His departure marks another big swing-and-a-miss:

https://www.instagram.com/p/C4iPbaEOnIW/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Zack Baun was one of the first losses the New Orleans Saints took in free agency, but their former linebacker didn’t waste any time in thanking the city for supporting him during the first four years of his career.

The Saints traded up to get Baun in the 2020 draft, sending their 2021 third-round pick to move up from No. 88 to 74 where they could pick him. New Orleans also got back a seventh-round pick at No. 244 which they traded the next day to go get tight end Adam Trautman.

But the plan for Baun was questionable from the start. His position coach Michael Hodges explained that the Saints planned on converting Baun from the pass-rush role he played at Wisconsin to more of a traditional off-ball coverage role that he hadn’t played before. He struggled so badly playing out of position that they drafted two more linebackers in the next two draft classes (Pete Werner and D’Marco Jackson) before relenting in 2023. When Baun was finally allowed to get after the quarterback, he generated 11 pressures (with a couple of sacks) in the final six games.

Now he’ll be doing that for another team. The Eagles are actively revamping their own pass-rush unit and Baun figures to get more looks in that role than he found in New Orleans, which would explain why he left so quickly. Still, his time with the Saints was a great learning experience, and he’s eager to embrace a new challenge in a new city. Good luck to him. The Eagles will be visiting the Saints for a home game in 2024, so we’ll see what he can do firsthand.

Alontae Taylor celebrates Baker Mayfield’s new contract extension

Alontae Taylor celebrated Baker Mayfield’s new contract. He’s eager to play against Mayfield again after snagging his first career interception:

New Orleans Saints defensive back Alontae Taylor took to Twitter to celebrate a division rival extending their quarterback. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Mayfield to a new three-year, $100 million deal; Taylor called Mayfield one of his favorite quarterbacks.

Taylor grabbed his first career interception last season off of Mayfield, in the second-to-last game of the year (quickly following it up with another takeaway in the season finale against the Atlanta Falcons). This will likely come back around in the news cycle when the Saints and Bucs meet next season. The two teams split their matchups last season, each team winning one with Mayfield at quarterback.

Mayfield will stick around in the NFC South, doing enough in his first season to earn a bigger deal. He had 4,044 passing yards last season with a 64.3% completion rate. He also threw 28 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and was selected for the Pro Bowl Games. The Bucs also recently gave wide receiver Mike Evans an extension, so this is going to remain an intense rivalry for years to come. The Saints will need Taylor to keep playing great football so they can remain competitive in the series.
