Roger Goodell gives first public comment on Chiefs WR Rashee Rice since high-speed crash

Roger Goodell made his first public comment on the situation surrounding #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice.

The ongoing police investigation in Dallas surrounding the car accident involving Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice continues to get national attention. The incident has affected Kansas City’s mindset heading into the 2024 NFL draft and forced Commissioner Roger Goodell to make his first public comments.

“Well, first, we allowed the legal process to move through,” Goodell said during his opening interview Thursday with ESPN’s Mike Greenberg at the first round of the draft. “We obviously are following it closely, and as soon as they’re done with the process, we will be engaged and be prepared to look at that under all of our personal contact policies.”

Goodell’s response aligns with the league’s protocol, which includes waiting for the legal process to play before deciding on a player’s potential punishment. The topic is serious, and whether or not Rice’s immediate future is in doubt, Kansas City drafted WR Xavier Worthy in the first round later that night.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with the media late Thursday night, emphasizing his plans to have Worthy and Rice be fixtures in the offense. Rice, a former SMU star, continues working out with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes while the investigation continues.

Rice faces eight felony charges in the March 30 accident. According to police, he was driving a Lamborghini at high speed and caused an accident that injured multiple people.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid reveals early plans for Texas WR Xavier Worthy

#Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed his plans for Texas WR Xavier Worthy, who was Kansas City’s first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs made moves late in the first round of the NFL draft, trading up with their AFC nemesis, the Buffalo Bills to move from pick No. 32 to No. 28.

Ultimately, Kansas City selected Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy,  indicating their high hopes for the talented speedster.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with the media immediately following Worthy’s selection, sharing his thoughts on the former Longhorn. Reid already has a plan for utilizing his record-breaking speed in the game plan and special teams.

“I think he is a heck of a football player,” Reid explained. “Number one, he does a few different things. He’s a good wide receiver and also a good special teams returner. He’ll end up doing both to start things off with.

“We’ll just work him into that rotation when we get him (into) the wide receiver rotation, and with Hollywood (Marquise Brown) and Rashee (Rice) and (Travis) Kelce, you know, the other folks, so it should give Pat (Patrick Mahomes) another weapon to use.”

The announcement that the Chiefs and Bills were making a deal shocked many critics, but Reid shed some light on Kansas City’s mindset.

“We wanted him, and we just felt that he started getting down there; somebody might jump us and pick him up,” said Reid. “Brett does a great job of this; he got a real good feel for the people that have interest in that position and that player and then where he needs to go to attack it.”

Reid has thrived with slim and speedy receivers, as he mentioned his experience with former receiver DeSean Jackson during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. The longtime head coach was enticed to select Worthy because of his desire and eagerness to play football.

“I like his makeup,” Reid continued. “I like the fact that he can go all day and that he loves football. And you guys know how we’re wired here. Brett (Veach) makes that a real characteristic that he likes. Likewise, as coaches, we love that. If you find that out about a guy and you can tell he’s passionate about the sport, I think you’ll see this when you meet him. And he loves to play. And he’s good at it.”

Hopes are high for what Worthy can bring to the Chief’s offense, as the possibilities are endless as day one of the NFL draft comes to a close.

Adam Schefter: Multi-game suspension likely for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice

According to Adam Schefter, #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice may face a multi-game suspension for his involvement in a car accident in Dallas, Texas.

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice is facing eight felony charges after his involvement in a high-speed, multi-car accident in Dallas.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the league is likely to make a decision on punishment for the 23-year-old receiver at some point before the 2024 season. Schefter revealed how the league may choose to handle Rice’s situation in an article that was recently posted by ESPN.

“He is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury,” Schefter wrote. “He turned himself in to police last week at the regional jail in DeSoto, Texas, before being released on bond. On top of the legal issues and lawsuits he is facing, Rice is expected to be disciplined by the NFL, resulting in at least a multi-game suspension.”

Rice, who established himself as the top wideout in Kansas City’s offense last season, would be sorely missed if the league decides that he must serve a suspension before seeing action for the Chiefs in the 2024 regular season.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach provides update on WRs Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore

#Chiefs GM Brett Veach gave reporters an update on wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore during a press conference on Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason is humming along as the team prepares for the 2024 NFL Draft next week. The most-discussed position of need for the defending Super Bowl champions is wide receiver, as the squad hopes to improve their production at the position after a noticeable drop-off in 2023.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach addressed the media on Friday via Zoom to give his thoughts on the current state of Kansas City’s roster, specifically touching on expectations for Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore next season.

“We’re obviously hoping both continue to improve progress and can be consistent playmakers for us,” Veach explained. “Kadarius has obviously had a long history of injury issues, but he is probably our most talented wideout. Now again, it doesn’t do anyone any good unless unless you stay healthy. But I mean, the kid has always worked hard here for us. I know; he’s been down there with Pat (Patrick Mahomes). I think it’s just a matter of him staying healthy. I think if he can do that, he can really do a lot of great things in this offense.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”5375″ ]

“That’s one of the things there’s a lot of speculation about KT, but I don’t think we ever stopped believing in him. I think people around the building like him, and it’s, it’s the injury bug, and hopefully, he gets some luck on his side, and he can stay healthy and be the player that he was in Florida and the player that we’ve seen in spurts here. So, just hoping he has a good offseason and has a little luck on his side and can stay healthy.”

Moore also dealt with injury issues last season, being placed on injured reserve in December and unable to get his timing back effectively for the postseason run.

“Skyy (Moore) has always been a mentally tough kid,” Veach said. “He had that knee injury last year, too. So, to some degree, it is just these guys being on the field and staying healthy, and then making plays when their number is called.

“The great thing about both these guys are the two guys we really like as people, and they’re smart guys, and they work hard. And now it’s just a matter of them putting themselves in position to earn consistent playing time and then make plays when their number is called.”

Toney and Moore will prioritize health, as the young receivers are still a big part of the team’s future, especially with the ongoing police investigation of Rashee Rice.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on Rashee Rice’s status amid police investigation

#Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke about Rashee Rice’s status during his comments to the media on Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to start the first phase of their offseason program this week. The coming period will consist of meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation. The players and coaches will communicate voluntarily via Zoom to keep everyone on track during the offseason.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has many things on his mind ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, which is only days away. On Monday, he took time to answer questions from the media about various topics, including the status of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who is facing eight felony counts after a high-speed car accident in Dallas last month.

“I’m leaving, like we’ve done most of these [player legal matters], just for the law enforcement part of it to take place, and then we’ll go from there with that,” Reid said. “I have had an opportunity to talk to Rashee, so I’m not going to obviously get into that. But anyway, that part has been gone through.”

According to the Dallas Morning News, police said Rice was driving 119 mph ahead of the crash, which injured at least four people. He has cooperated with authorities since the incident. Reid told reporters about Rice’s current involvement during the offseason workout plan later in his comments to the media.

“So there’s no real participation other than Zoom, so he’ll participate in that,” Reid said. “Other than that, we don’t have anything going on here that he would be involved with. Again, just a reminder on this: It’s voluntary. So as we go forward, that’s also another part of it.”

On-field workouts are part of the offseason program’s second phase, and because of the investigation, there hasn’t yet been a clear indication of whether Rice will be allowed to participate in Kansas City.

“We’ll just see how it goes,” Reid said of Rice’s involvement. “I mean, I want to keep gathering information from the law enforcement people. We’ll just see where everything goes from there. Let the process take place.”

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice issues personal apology after car accident in Dallas

Kansas City #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice issued a personal apology on Instagram after being involved in a serious car accident in Dallas, Texas.

An investigation is underway after a car accident last weekend that involved Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice. The crash injured four people and led to the young receiver being sought by Dallas police for questioning after it was reported that one of the vehicles was registered in his name.

Rice had a statement released on his behalf earlier this week from his lawyer but decided to speak personally via his Instagram Stories.

“Today, I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s incident,” Rice wrote. “I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident.”

According to league spokesman Brian McCarthy, the NFL is monitoring the situation. Chiefs president Mark Donovan took a similar approach when speaking on KCMO this week: “We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts, and we’ll react accordingly.”

The Chiefs are moving like business as usual until more details are released during the investigation. The 2023 rookie standout is working with authorities but faces an uncertain future until rulings are made.

WATCH: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes throws to Marquise Brown in offseason workout

Check out this video of #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes throwing to Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown in an offseason workout

The 2024 NFL season is months away, but Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t want to wait much longer to test his arm with his new wide receiver. The three-time Super Bowl MVP was back on the field showing off his arm in a video with his newly signed teammate Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Mahomes posted a video of him tossing passes to Brown on his Instagram account and a highlight reel of a suspected independent workout. The video was accompanied by the Big Sean song Precision, and it appeared that the new teammates were already in sync.

The pair was spotted working out with trainer Bobby Stroupe last month, so a positive bond seems to have formed well before organized team activities.

Skyy Moore is also featured in the video. After a rough 2023, he hopes to significantly contribute to the team’s offensive plans in the upcoming season.

The Chiefs could still be in the market for a wide receiver during this month’s NFL Draft, but it’s good to see the current crop getting some early work under their belts.

Rashee Rice’s lawyer issues statement after serious wreck in Dallas

Rashee Rice’s lawyer issued a statement on Monday after he was allegedly involved in a serious accident in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.

A high-speed car accident in Dallas was a topic of serious discussion around the NFL this weekend after Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was connected with the incident. The Dallas Morning News on Sunday morning reported that a vehicle registered to him was involved in the crash.

In response, Rice has hired attorney Royce West, who released a statement on the matter Monday afternoon, just a day after the incident.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the statement on his X account.

Since yesterday, there haven’t been any concrete details to report amid the many assumptions swirling on social media. Whether Rice himself was involved in the incident is still unclear. For now, the statement posted by Schefter serves as the only acknowledgment of the incident by the wide receiver.

As details become available, this story will be updated.

Dallas police are seeking Chiefs WR Rashee Rice after a multi-vehicle accident

Authorities in Dallas are searching for Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice regarding an auto accident on Saturday in Dallas.
