Report: FAU QB Casey Thompson to miss rest of season with torn ACL

The FAU quarterback exited Saturday’s game against Clemson after the injury. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the specifics Monday.

Florida Atlantic quarterback Casey Thompson will miss the rest of the 2023 season after he tore his ACL during Saturday’s loss to Clemson, as ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported.

Thompson left the game early in the second quarter after he took a big hit in the pocket. He was helped off the field by trainers.

The senior quarterback started his career with the Texas Longhorns back when current FAU coach Tom Herman led the program. He spent 2019-2021 with Texas and started for Nebraska in 2022 before he reunited with Herman in Boca Raton this offseason.

This was Thompson’s sixth and final year of NCAA eligibility.

The Owls turned to junior Daniel Richardson after Thompson left. Richardson completed 18 of 32 passes for 120 yards and an interception to close the game. Richardson transferred from Central Michigan over the offseason, where he started for the last two years.

Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven still trying to make a comeback

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven is still trying to make a return after suffering a knee injury during the 2021 preseason.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven has been diligently working to make it back on the football field after injuring his knee two preseasons ago.

Burr-Kirven could not battle back from the torn ACL he suffered in 2021 and was cut by the Seahawks last July after failing his physical. He spent the 2022 season on Seattle’s reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Coach Pete Carroll provided an update on the former Husky during his final press conference of the season.

“He’s in a little bit of an experimental mode, the surgeries that he’s had and the process that he’s going through,” Carroll told reporters. “He is making progress, he’s always in the weight room with us, he’s always here working, really with a tremendous mentality. The nerve issues, there’s really intricate stuff going on, so he’s had to have a really good attitude to stay in the fight, and he is, he’s in the fight, and he’s planning on getting back out there. We’re going to give him every chance, if he can do it, this is going to be the place he does it.

“So we’ll see what happens, but he’s upbeat, he’s positive, and he’s made improvements in an area that sometimes you don’t make any.”

Seahawks DT Bryan Mone had ‘difficult surgery’ to address knee injury

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Bryan Mone underwent what turned out to be a “difficult surgery” to repair his torn ACL and knee injury.

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Bryan Mone suffered a knee injury in Week 15 during the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was carted off the field and eventually underwent surgery to address a torn ACL as well as other issues which weren’t immediately discoverable.

Coach Pete Carroll provided an update on Mone during his end-of-the-season press conference.

“He had a difficult surgery,” Carroll said last Monday. “We’ve got to wait and see. There was more stuff going on than we thought, he had some old stuff in there probably that was part of that. So he’s going to have a good battle to get back.

“I don’t know what the timeframe is on it, but it’s going to take a while.”

Mone started in two of 12 games played for Seattle in 2022 and logged 25 combined tackles and one pass defensed.

Jameson Williams likely out another month for Detroit

Update on Jameson Williams torn ACL recovery

Former Alabama Crimson Tide superstar wide receiver [autotag]Jameson Williams[/autotag] is still waiting to make his NFL debut for the Detroit Lions while rehabbing from a January injury.

In Williams’s last collegiate game, the 2022 College Football Playoff national championship, he suffered a torn ACL on a non-contact injury.

Despite the injury, the Lions still selected Williams with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Williams paired with Amon-Ra St. Brown would be a receiving duo that has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL in a few seasons.

While Williams is making good progress on his return, it sounds like we will not be seeing the speedster for at least another month. However, Lions head coach Dan Campbell is increasingly confident that Williams will see action at some point this fall.

Report: Texas punter Ryan Bujcevski will miss remainder of season with torn ACL

The Texas Longhorns were dealt a heavy blow during the WVU game. Punter Ryan Bujcevski tore his ACL and will require season-ending surgery.

The Texas Longhorns were riding high after winning their third-straight game after defeating West Virginia 17-13. However, it isn’t all sunshine and daffodils for the Longhorns special teams unit. According to multiple reports, punter Ryan Bujcevski will miss the remainder of the 2020 college football season. He suffered a torn ACL during the Texas-West Virginia game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Current kicker Cameron Dicker was seen warming up as the punter late in the game against the Mountaineers. The severity of the injury was not yet known at the time. Dicker will now have dual duties moving forward as the placekicker and the punter for the season.

The other aspect of Dicker taking over punting duties is the holder on field goal attempts. Bujcevski handled those duties as well. The Longhorns will have to find another player to take on those duties. Could be a backup quarterback or even a receiver since the team doesn’t have another punter on the roster.

This could mess with the timing of the hold and kick. Bujcevski handled the duties for the last three seasons. A blow to the special teams as Ryan was having his best season to date in his Longhorns career. He averaged a career-high 43.3 yards per punt. Against the Mountaineers he downed two punts inside the 10-yard line. He ranked second in the conference in yards per punt.

It will be a situation to monitor when they take the field against the Kansas Jayhawks on Nov. 21 in Lawrence.

Packers rookie TE Josiah Deguara out for season with torn ACL

Packers rookie Josiah Deguara tore his ACL against the Falcons and will miss the rest of the 2020 season.

The Green Bay Packers will be without rookie tight end Josiah Deguara for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Deguara suffered a “pretty bad” injury during the Packers’ win over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, and ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports the injury is a season-ending torn ACL.

LaFleur said the Packers still think Deguara, who played in two of the Packers’ first four games, still has a “bright future” in Green Bay.

A third-round pick of the Packers, Deguara played in 24 snaps during the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, then missed two games with an ankle injury before going down with the knee injury on Monday night on his seventh snap against the Falcons.

Deguara caught one of his two targets for 12 yards. The Packers used him in an H-back role to start his rookie season.

He’ll be expected to go on injured reserve.

The Packers will move forward with a combination of Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, Jace Sternberger and John Lovett at tight end.

Trojans in the NFL: Iman Marshall will miss 2020 season with torn ACL

Former USC Trojans cornerback Iman Marshall, now with the Baltimore Ravens, tore his ACL and will miss the 2020 season.

Former USC Trojans cornerback Iman Marshall suffered a major knee injury on Sunday, which will cost him the entire 2020 season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Marshall reportedly tore several ligaments in his knee, including his ACL. The hope is that he will be healed in time for the 2021 season, although these types of injuries can easily last a full season, which could cost him some of training camp next year.

Marshall joined the Ravens as a fourth round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. After missing the first 10 weeks of the season on the injured list, Marshall appeared in three games and 47 total snaps down the stretch, with 43 of those snaps coming on the special teams.

The 23-year-old starred at USC from 2015-2018, finishing 20th in NCAA history with 36 career passes defended, second all-time in the PAC-12.

He also racked up 146 combined tackles and six interceptions, becoming one of USC’s all-time great defensive backs.

Hopefully, a year of recovery will give Marshall a chance to compete for playing time in Baltimore’s crowded secondary in 2021.

Report: Texans OLB Duke Ejiofor tears ACL in first padded training camp practice

Houston Texans outside linebacker Duke Ejiofor tore his ACL at the end of training camp practice Friday.

[jwplayer fenoeK5t]

The Houston Texans will be without a young edge defender as Duke Ejiofor tore his ACL at the end of practice Friday.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the former 2018 sixth-round pick from Wake Forest injured his knee after the Texans’ first padded practice of training camp. Ejiofor was recovering from a ruptured Achilles that he sustained during May of 2019.

“It’s been unlucky,” coach Bill O’Brien of Ejiofor’s Achilles tear last season. “Duke’s a great guy and he just has had some bad luck. He’ll be back, though. He’ll be back at some point and he’ll have a chance to be a good pro football player.”

The rehab resets for the former Alief Taylor product, who produced 9.0 tackles, 1.0 sack, a tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and a fumble recovery in his 12 games with Houston as a rookie.

Houston will rely on rookie third-round outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard, third-year linebacker Jacob Martin, and third-year linebacker Peter Kalambayi for edge rusher depth.

WATCH: Ja’Quinden Jackson moving after tearing ACL in December

2020 four-star signee Ja’Quinden Jackson tore his ACL in December. After five months, he is up and moving, preparing for the 2020 season.

2020 four-star signee Ja’Quinden Jackson ended his high school career in an unusual way, not playing in the final game of the season. Playing for Duncanville High School in the 6A-DI playoff semi-finals against Rockwall, Jackson partially tore his ACL.

After doctors thought he completely tore it, Jackson’s chance of contributing to the team in 2020 significantly shot up after the news of a partial tear.

Now in the stages of rehabbing, a Twitter video has been released of Jackson on his feet and moving.

You can watch it here:

Before the injury, the quarterback put up outstanding numbers his senior year. Jackson threw for 1,711 yards with a 61% completion rate, while also having 21 touchdowns and five interceptions. Where he really is a threat is on the ground, having 1,030 yards on 93 carries and 16 touchdowns.

With Sam Ehlinger entering his senior season, Jackson will be in the race to replace the three-year starter. Competing against Hudson Card and Casey Thompson, if Jackson is healthy, his dual-threat mobility could win him the job.
