Texas punter Ryan Bujcevski enters the transfer portal

Bujcevski started 30 games for the Longhorns in his career.

Texas punter Ryan Bujcevski has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

Bujcevski joined the team in 2018 as the replacement punter to his cousin Micheal Dickson. He started 30 games for the Horns in his first three seasons in Austin before suffering an ACL injury against West Virginia late in the 2020 season. Cameron Dicker stepped in and won the starting punter job for the 2021 season.

The Aussie punter improved his punting average in each of his three seasons, averaging 44.3 yards per punt during his junior season.

Bujcevski will have two years of immediate eligibility remaining at his next program.

With Dicker and Bujcevski gone, Texas will likely turn to second-year punter Issac Pearson. Pearson was rated the No. 3 punter in the class of 2021.

Report: Texas punter Ryan Bujcevski will miss remainder of season with torn ACL

The Texas Longhorns were dealt a heavy blow during the WVU game. Punter Ryan Bujcevski tore his ACL and will require season-ending surgery.

The Texas Longhorns were riding high after winning their third-straight game after defeating West Virginia 17-13. However, it isn’t all sunshine and daffodils for the Longhorns special teams unit. According to multiple reports, punter Ryan Bujcevski will miss the remainder of the 2020 college football season. He suffered a torn ACL during the Texas-West Virginia game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Current kicker Cameron Dicker was seen warming up as the punter late in the game against the Mountaineers. The severity of the injury was not yet known at the time. Dicker will now have dual duties moving forward as the placekicker and the punter for the season.

The other aspect of Dicker taking over punting duties is the holder on field goal attempts. Bujcevski handled those duties as well. The Longhorns will have to find another player to take on those duties. Could be a backup quarterback or even a receiver since the team doesn’t have another punter on the roster.

This could mess with the timing of the hold and kick. Bujcevski handled the duties for the last three seasons. A blow to the special teams as Ryan was having his best season to date in his Longhorns career. He averaged a career-high 43.3 yards per punt. Against the Mountaineers he downed two punts inside the 10-yard line. He ranked second in the conference in yards per punt.

It will be a situation to monitor when they take the field against the Kansas Jayhawks on Nov. 21 in Lawrence.

Former Longhorn punter Michael Dickson calls out Texas staff

Once upon a time Michael Dickson was the punter for the Texas Longhorns. On Saturday he called out the new special teams coordinator.

During his time at the University of Texas, Michael Dickson was one of the best punters in all of college football. He even has the hardware to prove it. During his final season on the Forty Acres, Dickson won the Ray Guy Award. It is presented annually to the best punter in college football. He was even awarded the Texas Bowl MVP for his punting efforts against Missouri.

On Saturday, Michael Dickson took to Twitter to criticize the coaching staff after Ryan Bujcevski’s punt was blocked by Oklahoma.

“No protection. Week in week out. No coverage week in week out. ST coach is (trash). Smh.”

Dickson was in Austin for the first year under Tom Herman but didn’t play under new special teams coordinator Jay Boulware. It isn’t much of a shock to see Dickson come to the aid of his cousin Bujcevski. However, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t dead on in his criticism. The special teams unit has been anything but special this year for the Longhorns.

Three reasons Texas lost to Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout

It was a frustrating game for the Texas Longhorns as they fell to their rivals 53-45 in an overtime thriller. Our three reason for the loss.

There is a lot to unpack from the Texas Longhorns 53-45 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday. Despite falling down by double-digits twice against Oklahoma, Texas was able to fight and claw back into the game. The Longhorns needed this game but ultimately fell short to their rivals to the north.

Early on in this game, it didn’t look much like a shootout given that the game went into halftime tied at 17. Then again tied at 31 as the fourth quarter came to an end. It looked like the Sooners would win the game with under five minutes remaining and a two touchdown lead. However, quarterback Sam Ehlinger and the Longhorns had other ideas.

Clinging to a lead late, the Sooners had an opportunity to put the game away as Texas had no timeouts left. All Oklahoma needed was a first down or two to milk the clock. On third down Lincoln Riley dialed up a pass that fell incomplete. With two minutes remaining, they gave Sam Ehlinger all the time he needed to force overtime in this game.

In the extra session the Longhorns weren’t able to do enough and some mistakes cost them dearly. Texas tried to mount a comeback again in the fourth overtime, they fell short once gain. We breakdown three reasons why the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma.
