WATCH: The best highlights from Wisconsin basketball’s scrimmage vs UWSP

Wisconsin basketball will tip off its 2023-24 season next Monday at home against Arkansas State.

The team is coming off a disappointing 2022-23 campaign which ended with a 20-15 record and no NCAA Tournament birth.

But things are promising entering this season. Greg Gard welcomes back his top players in Chucky Hepburn, Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowl, as well as a promising role player in Connor Essegian. Then there’s the big offseason addition: transfer guard A.J. Storr. Pair all of those players together, then add some promising youngsters, and you have a team that could contend for the Big Ten this season.

Gard and Badger fans alike got a first glance at the new team in action last night as it welcomed in UW-Stevens Point for a scrimmage. The Badgers won 87-44 thanks to 14 points from Storr, 11 from Essegian and 10 from Crowl.

Here are some of the best highlights from the contest:

Crimson beats White in Alabama football’s 2023 A-Day spring game

Alabama’s 2023 A-Day has come to an end and the Crimson team took down the White team with a final score of 30-21.

Alabama’s annual A-Day spring game is in the books and the Crimson team took down the White team with a final score of 30-21. While it was exciting to see the Crimson Tide take the field for the first time in a few months, more questions were raised than answers given.

The biggest story heading into the scrimmage was the ongoing quarterback battle between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson.

Milroe led the White team and completed 51% of his passes, threw two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions. Simpson was the quarterback for the Crimson team and completed 46% of his passes and had one interception. While Simpson’s numbers may seem underwhelming, he performed well.

Contributing to the poor stats of both quarterbacks were numerous dropped balls by the receiving corps. Jermaine Burton, on multiple occasions, had a routine pass that popped out of his hands. The wide receivers will now be a must-watch positional group as the season approaches.

As far as running backs go, Justice Haynes found his way into the end zone twice on only 10 touches. Jase McClellan finished with the most yards of any true running back with only 37 yards on seven carries. Simpson had the most rushing yards with 58.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama football as the 2023 offseason continues.

Tommy White leads LSU baseball to a big win over Louisiana

White, an NC State transfer, had three home runs in 18 innings to lead the Tigers past Louisiana in the two-part scrimmage.

On Sunday, LSU baseball played an 18-inning scrimmage game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Moore Field in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The game was divided into two nine-inning segments with a break in between both segments. LSU won the first game 8-2 and won the second game 5-2. The Tigers were led by NC State transfer [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag]. His teammates call him “Tommy Tanks” for a reason as White finished Sunday’s 18-inning scrimmage 6-for-8 at the plate with one double, three homers and five RBI.

On the mound, [autotag]Grant Taylor[/autotag] and [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] led the way in the first nine innings as they combined to pitch six scoreless innings with no hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts. [autotag]Chase Shores[/autotag], [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryce Collins[/autotag] combined to pitch seven innings allowing one hit, one walk and 13 strikeouts in the second nine innings.

LSU will be back in action this Friday as the Tigers begin the annual Purple/Gold World Series.

Florida baseball announces scrimmage against Georgia

Florida and Georgia are set to clash on the gridiron Saturday, but which school’s baseball program will kick off the weekend with a win the night before?

It’s officially Georgia hate week at the University of Florida, and the football program isn’t the only team in Orange and Blue looking to take down the Bulldogs over the weekend.

Florida’s baseball team has scheduled a scrimmage against Georgia on Friday at Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville at 6 p.m. EDT, according to the University Athletic Association.

The Gators will also host three separate intersquad scrimmages throughout the week at Condron Ballpark as part of the fall practice schedule. Here are the expected practice and scrimmage times for fans hoping to attend. Admission is free for the public and fans can access the concourse at Gate 3 behind the plate.

In addition to this scrimmage against Georgia, Florida will host Stetson at Condron Family Ballpark on Nov. 6 before closing out the fall schedule with a revival of the Orange and Blue Series on Nov. 10-13.

Florida fans should get a glimpse of the new faces on the team throughout that series. Infielder [autotag]Cade Kurland[/autotag], who reclassified to join the team a year early, has already made a name for himself early on, and [autotag]Yoel Tejeda Jr[/autotag]., a two-way player who was selected in the 19th round of the draft, is another freshman to watch out for. Then there’s Southern Miss transfer [autotag]Hurston Waldrep[/autotag], who played on Team USA with [autotag]Wyatt Langford[/autotag] and is expected to be the No. 2 to presumed ace [autotag]Brandon Sproat[/autotag].

There’s a lot of talent on this Florida team heading into the 2023 season. The more playing time they get together in the fall, the more cohesive a unit they’ll be come February.

Florida men’s basketball to host preseason Orange and Blue game

It’s almost time for college basketball, and Florida is hosting an intersquad scrimmage to finish off the preseason.

Instead of facing another school in a traditional exhibition game before the college basketball season starts, the Florida Gators are planning to hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. EDT. The program announced the game early Thursday morning.

Admission will be free to the Orange and Blue game with doors opening an hour before tipoff. Students will compete in contests and take home plenty of goodies as part of the event, including a team photo card for the first 1,000 fans through the gates. There will also be an interactive video/photo booth for fans to take pictures with the 2006 and 2007 National Championship trophies. One fan will win a pair of season tickets for the upcoming Florida Gators basketball season.

Capping off the preseason with an intrasquad scrimmage is new for the Gators. Florida has hosted an exhibition before the start of the season since 2004-05, most recently taking down Embry-Riddle last year.

The regular season (and [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] era) will begin less than a week after the scrimmage takes place. Stony Brook comes into town on Nov. 7 and then Kennesaw State is in Gainesville on Nov. 11. Those should be wonderful opportunities for the Gators to start off strong, but the Florida State game on Nov. 18 will be the team’s first genuine test under new leadership.

247Sports’ Jacob Rudner is reporting that Florida will play “secret scrimmages” against Miami and Jacksonville before the season begins, so the scrimmage won’t be the only form of game-speed preparation the Gators undergo.

Seahawks rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen: ‘Speed is my greatest asset’

Seattle Seahawks rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen, who had an impressive mock game at Lumen Field, believes speed is his greatest asset.

The Seattle Seahawks held their annual mock game at Lumen Field on Saturday and both the starters and the rookies were on full display. One defensive player who really shined was cornerback Tariq Woolen.

God, he’s a physical specimen,” quarterback Geno Smith said after the scrimmage. “I mean, he’s amazing. He’s taller than me and a lot faster than I am. So, when you’re trying to throw passes on a guy like that, you really can see his wingspan. He can make a ton of plays and there aren’t many guys who can run step for step with DK Metcalf and Marquise Goodwin, but he’s one of them.”

Woolen was selected by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft out of UTSA, where he began his college career as a wide receiver. His quickness put him on the map at the scouting combine, where he ran a 4.26-second 40-yard dash.

“Really, I just feel like speed is my greatest asset,” Woolen told reporters. “I ran track my whole life. I played football my whole life. Throughout the whole process of just getting here and getting faster and throughout the whole Combine process, you always train for 40-yard dashes and stuff like that. I just feel like all that speed has carried over throughout the years and now I can show it to the world and show it to my teammates too.

“It’s pretty cool being the fast guy on the team and being able to run with an Olympian like Marquise Goodwin and a stallion like DK Metcalf so it feels good to be able to keep up with those guys.”

The Seahawks have a walk-through Sunday afternoon before an off-day on Monday.

WATCH: Highlights from Alabama football’s first scrimmage of 2022

check out these clips of Alabama Football back on the field in full pads!

Alabama has moved well past the program’s last game: the loss the Georgia in the national championship. Now, the team has brought in early enrollees, has been working away at spring practices and now has the first scrimmage of 2022 in the books.

There are some players like quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], linebacker [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] and others who are returning from last year’s roster who get fans excited to see the team back out on the field again.

However, there are some new faces that Crimson Tide fans now get to see in action in Bryant Denny Stadium repping the crimson and white.

A few transfers will likely be making a big difference on both sides of the ball, such as: former Georgia Tech running back [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag], former Georgia wide receiver [autotag]Jemaine Burton[/autotag] and former LSU defensive back [autotag]Eli Ricks[/autotag].

Incoming freshman quarterback [autotag]Ty Simpson[/autotag], a five-star recruit from the 2022 class, can also be seen in a few clips.

The list of important players making appearances in the clip can go on and on, but the video speaks for itself.

Alabama Football opens up the 2022 season at home against Utah State on Sept. 3.

Everything Steve Sarkisian said after Texas’ scrimmage on Saturday

What Sark had to say after the latest scrimmage.

A week removed from the last scrimmage, which turned out to be extremely disappointing on the offensive side of the ball in the eyes of first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, the Longhorns had another scrimmage on Saturday, August 21.

With the season just 14 days away, there was a lot riding on this particular scrimmage, as it has the potential to solidify certain position battles. After the first scrimmage, it seemed as if the defense was much further along than the offense, which is typical, but Sarkisian genuinely did not seem pleased with how the offense preformed.

Now granted Xavier Worthy was held out due to a non-COVID-19 illness, and Troy Omeire went down with an injury earlier in the week, Sarkisian still expressed his displeasure in the quarterbacks and the receivers. However, the offensive unit got a week to work on their miscues, and based off what the head coach had to say after the most recent scrimmage, it paid dividends.

Let’s take a look at everything Sarkisian had to say after the most recent scrimmage.

Oregon’s offense makes significant strides in second fall scrimmage

Oregon’s second scrimmage of the fall camp went a lot more smoothly in all areas as the offense made significant strides.

One could say that the Oregon Ducks fall camp is going just how you would expect it to.

In the first scrimmage last week, the Ducks defense got the better of the offense and there were some penalty issues. But a week later, offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead and his group took a significant step towards where they want to be.

“(It was a) night and day difference, for sure. It feels like that first scrimmage the defense had their way for most of it, and early on in this one the offense came out and they came out fast and strong,” Mario Cristobal said. “They finished drives. The first series was a 3-and-out, but after that, they got going and got the momentum.”

Cristobal said that the second scrimmage, which wasn’t open to the public or the media, lasted about 150 plays and that everything went as smoothly as possible, including a couple of overtime situations.

All in all, just very efficient, operating really well. They eliminated penalties, especially pre-snap penalties, which was a big issue in scrimmage one. Played cleaner, played faster, and finished. All in all, today was a better day for the offense, and with the defense, we saw some positive progress on both sides.

It’s good to hear that Oregon’s preparation for the season is going all according to plan. With the Ducks’ depth in nearly every position, Oregon has a lot of questions that need to be answered personnel-wise, but that’s a good problem to have.

There are only 14 days until the 2021 season begins and Fresno State comes into Autzen Stadium Sept. 4 for an 11 a.m. kickoff. The Bulldogs actually start their season a week earlier by hosting UConn.
