WATCH: Roschon Johnson takes a handoff 56 yards to the house

Roschon Johnson appears to already be in midseason form.

Texas senior running back Roschon Johnson appears to already be in midseason form this spring.

Johnson shined in Bijan Robinson’s absence. The former quarterback turned running back scored two touchdowns on Saturday including a 56-yard scoring scamper. Johnson showed off his wheels to escape from the Texas secondary.

Texas’ two-headed monster of Robinson and Johnson will be a force to be reckoned with in the fall. Many schools around the country would love to have a player of Johnson’s caliber as their starter.

Steve Sarkisian will make sure both guys play a significant role in the offseason. Texas had some success with two-back sets in the 2021 season.

Fellow running backs Keilan Robinson, Jonathon Brooks and Jaydon Blue flashed during portions of the game as well. The Texas running back unit is stacked with talent from top to bottom.

Texas Football: Updated depth chart for West Virginia game

Texas updates depth chart ahead of West Virginia matchup.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made a few changes to the depth chart ahead of the West Virginia game.

The quarterback position no longer has an “or” next to it. Sarkisian gave both quarterbacks playing time before Hudson Card threw a costly pick-six near the end of the first half giving the Jayhawks all the momentum. Casey Thompson led a second half comeback to force the game into overtime, prompting Sarkisian to give him the start this week.

Roschon Johnson will start at running back in place of Bijan Robinson, who will miss the rest of the season due to an elbow injury. Keilan Robinson is listed as Johnson’s backup after missing a week in COVID-19 protocol.

With Josh Thompson injured, Darrion Dunn is listed as the starting cornerback opposite of D’Shawn Jamison. Expect to see a mix of Dunn, Jahdae Barron and Kitan Crawford during the course of the game.

Here is a look at the entire depth chart:

WATCH: Four Texas running backs record a touchdown against Rice

It was a touchdown party for the Texas running backs on Saturday night.

Stan Drayton is somewhere smiling at the fact that he may have assembled the best running back room in the nation.

There was an exclusive party in the end zone on Saturday evening, and four of Texas’ running backs were in attendance.

The Longhorns unleashed a deadly rushing attack against Rice that saw seemingly every running back that touched the ball tearing up the opposing defense. Starting running back Bijan Robinson led the team with three touchdowns and 127 yards rushing, the Texas running back room as a whole combined for six touchdowns and amassed over 400 yards rushing.

Bijan Robinson also made history in Week 3, as he became the fastest running back at Texas to reach 1,000 career rushing yards since the legendary Jamaal Charles.

Even with the change at quarterback, it was evident that the game plan was to feed the running backs as much as possible. The 38 rushes was the most of the season for Texas, and it is evident that Sarkisian should consider utilizing all of the backs as much as possible.

On every touch, it seemed as if one of the running backs could have gone the distance. Take a look at five of the six that did:

Three takeaways from Texas’ Red River Rivalry loss to Oklahoma

It will be another year of the Sooners wearing the Golden Hat. Here are three takeaways from Texas’ Red River Shootout loss to Oklahoma:

Four the fourth time in four years, Tom Herman has dropped a game to Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners. Doing it in a more stressful way than usual, it took four overtimes for the Longhorns to lose in Dallas.

Now, Texas will be two games behind in the Big 12 championship race while Oklahoma also had the tiebreaker. Herman’s goal since Day One has been to win the school’s first conference championship since 2009. He will now have an extreme uphill battle to do so.

The Sooners dominated most of the game until giving up 14 points with five minutes left. From there it was the Sam Ehlinger show, at least getting Texas into a position to win the game.

It will be another year of Oklahoma wearing the Golden Hat, despite fielding one of its worst teams of the century. The Longhorns will have serious soul searching to do before getting back onto the field against Baylor in two weeks.
