WATCH: Roschon Johnson standing out at Senior Bowl practice

Texas running back Roschon Johnson is turning heads at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Texas running back Roschon Johnson is turning heads at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

After spending the majority of his career backing up future first-round selection Bijan Robinson, Johnson is proving he is quite the pro prospect in his own right.

Johnson ran for 2,190 yards and 23 touchdowns in his four-year Texas career. He made the switch from quarterback to running back just weeks ahead of his freshman season and has gotten better ever since. Johnson averaged a career-high six yards per carry in the 2022 season.

Johnson has the potential to be a three-down back in the NFL. He is a physical runner and his pass-catching skills should translate to the next level.

The Senior Bowl is giving Johnson a chance to showcase his skills in front of NFL scouts without being in the shadow of Robinson. Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy believes Johnson is making a strong move up many draft boards this week.

Here is a look at some of Johnson’s highlights at Senior Bowl practice this week.

Five possible landing spots for Texas RB Bijan Robinson in the NFL

Which NFL team is going to snag Bijan Robinson in the draft?

Texas running back Bijan Robinson is a projected first-rounder for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Robinson is one of the most dynamic players in the upcoming draft class. The Doak Walker Award winner has tallied 1,580 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, along with another 314 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

It has been a long time since Texas has produced a player with this much hype as an NFL prospect. Robinson is expected to end Texas’ long drought of not having an offensive player taken on day one of the draft.

Many scouts believe Robinson has the chance to be one of the top running backs in the NFL early on in his career. He has received comparisons to NFL stars like Saquon Barkley and Dalvin Cook.

Mock drafts have Robinson going anywhere from the top 10 to the end of the first round. Here is a look at five NFL teams that are most likely to land Bijan Robinson.

Texas RB Roschon Johnson deemed an ‘underrated’ NFL Draft prospect

Pro Football Focus ranks Roschon Johnson as one of the most underrated players in the 2023 draft class.

Texas is sending a pair of excellent running backs to the 2023 NFL Draft. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson created one of the best duos in college football last season.

Robinson gets most of the publicity and attention as a prospect and deservingly so. He took home the Doak Walker Award as the best running back in the nation. NFL scouts project Robinson to be a first-round draft pick in April.

Despite taking on a lesser role behind Bijan, Roschon Johnson is a well-deserving prospect in his own right. Pro Football Focus ranks Johnson as one of the most underrated players in the 2023 draft class.

Johnson totaled 2,610 yards from scrimmage and 26 touchdowns in his four seasons at Texas. He made the position switch from quarterback to running back before his freshman year and excelled from the jump.

Special teams is another area where Johnson can make a substantial impact at the next level. He consistently showed his versatility in making tackles in the kicking game for Texas.

The door is open for Texas RB Jonathon Brooks in the Alamo Bowl

Jonathon Brooks is ready for the spotlight.

Texas enters its Alamo Bowl matchup with No. 12 Washington a bit shorthanded.

The dynamic running back duo of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson are opting out of the bowl game to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft. Without Robinson and Johnson in the fold, Texas’ running game is set to look a bit different.

Sophomore Jonathon Brooks has a significant opportunity in front of him in San Antonio. Brooks has shined in limited chances in his first two seasons with the Longhorns. He has rushed for 322 yards and five touchdowns on an excellent 7.2 yards per carry clip in his career.

Brooks is impressing during bowl practices while getting full snaps as the starting back. Roschon Johnson describes how Brooks “makes the game look easy” at times.

One can see Brooks is ready to take the next step. He flashed fantastic vision and quickness in multiple games on the season. Brooks even showed breakaway speed on a 70-yard scamper against Kansas in November.
