Texas RB Bijan Robinson misses out on Heisman invite

Bijan Robinson was snubbed of a Heisman finalist spot.

Texas superstar running back Bijan Robinson will not be making the trip to New York for the Heisman ceremony.

The Heisman Trophy Award finalists were announced on Monday Night, with Robinson missing the cut. The four players in contention for college football’s most prestigious award are all quarterbacks.

  • Stetson Bennett (Georgia)
  • Max Duggan (TCU)
  • C.J. Stroud (Ohio State)
  • Caleb Williams (USC)

USC’s Caleb Williams is the heavy favorite to take home the award after his magnificent season for the Trojans.

While it is a disappointment Bijan Robinson did not make the list, he is still up for the Doak Walker Award, granted to the best running back in the nation every year.

Steve Sarkisian stated he believes Robinson would be a sure-fire Heisman finalist if Texas had won a couple more games this season.

Texas RB Bijan Robinson named Doak Walker Award finalist

Bijan Robinson looks to become the fourth Longhorn to win the prestigious award.

Texas running back Bijan Robinson has been deemed a finalist for the 2022 Doak Walker Award. An honor given annually to the best running back in college football.

The Longhorns star enjoyed one of the best seasons in Texas football history.

Robinson ran for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns on a 6.1 yards per carry clip. In addition, he showed off his versatility out of the backfield by adding 314 yards and two scores as a pass catcher. Robinson’s 1,894 total yards lead all of college football.

“First, I want to give glory to God for being recognized for this award. I couldn’t do it without Him. I’m truly honored to be among this great group of finalists. It’s definitely a blessing, and I’m very thankful for that. When I think about it, words really can’t describe what it means, but being considered for the Doak Walker Award is something every running back dreams of.

Texas football has a long history of great running back play, proven by having three former Doak Walker Award winners. Bijan looks to join D’Onta Foreman (2016), Cedric Benson (2004) and Ricky Williams (1997 and 1998).

Robinson is joined as a finalist by Michigan’s Blake Corum and Illinois’ Chase Brown. The winner is set to be announced on Dec. 8 at the Home Depot College Football Awards.

TCU head coach Sonny Dykes heaps praise on Texas RB Bijan Robinson

“He’s the best college running back I’ve seen since Adrian Peterson.”

TCU head football coach Sonny Dykes isn’t overlooking Texas running back Bijan Robinson. In fact, it appears Robinson has his full attention.

Dykes indicated he has the utmost respect for the clear Doak Walker Award favorite. The Horned Frogs’ head coach paid perhaps the best compliment he could have given to an opposing running back. He had the following to say about Robinson.

I think Bijan is probably the best college running back I’ve seen since Adrian Peterson, or certainly that I’ve played against.

Adrian Peterson is well-known in Texas and across the country after a strong career at Oklahoma carried him to the NFL. Peterson will be remembered as one of the best running backs at both the college and professional level. Clearly, Bijan has made quite the impression on his opponent this week.

The Longhorns know what they will get from their best offensive weapon. Robinson will need help to defeat TCU on Saturday. Even so, the running back wearing No. 5 will play a pivotal role in the game.

With a strong performance he could secure the Doak Walker Award and keep his team alive in the Big 12 championship race.

Texas RB Bijan Robinson can make a statement to national audience vs TCU

Bijan Robinson can take the Doak Walker Award with a strong performance on Saturday night.

Bijan Robinson is the best running back in college football. He has a chance to prove it in primetime for a captive national audience when Texas hosts TCU this week.

Robinson has been a consistent performer this season. It didn’t take much for the third-year running back to pass the 1,000-yard mark for the season. Even so, against Kansas State the talented back reminded us what explosion and game-breaking ability he possesses.

In the first half against the Wildcats, Bijan rushed for 161 yards on 15 carries. It was the type of playmaking Texas fans have come to expect and take for granted watching the generational back.

Robinson had to shoulder a similar load last season against the Longhorns’ next opponent. Struggling to muster any passing game, Steve Sarkisian turned to Bijan to will the team to victory.

Highlighted by a game-clinching conversion run on third-and-7, Texas’ best player ran for 216 yards on 35 carries in a 32-27 road win over TCU last season.

Here’s what Robinson can accomplish against the Horned Frogs on Saturday.
