Texas RB Roschon Johnson deemed an ‘underrated’ NFL Draft prospect

Pro Football Focus ranks Roschon Johnson as one of the most underrated players in the 2023 draft class.

Texas is sending a pair of excellent running backs to the 2023 NFL Draft. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson created one of the best duos in college football last season.

Robinson gets most of the publicity and attention as a prospect and deservingly so. He took home the Doak Walker Award as the best running back in the nation. NFL scouts project Robinson to be a first-round draft pick in April.

Despite taking on a lesser role behind Bijan, Roschon Johnson is a well-deserving prospect in his own right. Pro Football Focus ranks Johnson as one of the most underrated players in the 2023 draft class.

Johnson totaled 2,610 yards from scrimmage and 26 touchdowns in his four seasons at Texas. He made the position switch from quarterback to running back before his freshman year and excelled from the jump.

Special teams is another area where Johnson can make a substantial impact at the next level. He consistently showed his versatility in making tackles in the kicking game for Texas.

Tale of the Tape: Leading Receivers – Michael Mayer vs. Zay Flowers

Worried about this matchup at all?

Notre Dame’s home game against Boston College is a big one for [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag]. Barring an unexpected change of heart, all signs point to this being his final time suiting up at Notre Dame Stadium before he jumps to the NFL. The Walter Camp Player of the Year semifinalist has been a real bright spot for the Irish in a season that has had its ups and downs. Hopefully, he can provide the South Bend faithful with one more solid game.

The Eagles’ Zay Flowers, an NFL draft prospect himself, will prove to be a challenge for the Irish’s secondary. Flowers has the most receiving yards in the ACC and the second-most receiving touchdowns. Then again, it could depend on who’s starting at quarterback for the Eagles because we still don’t know as of this writing. Regardless of who it is, the Irish can’t be too sure of their ability to stop him, or Flowers will burn them.

Bijan Robinson named one of Todd McShay’s top 2023 draft prospects

Bijan is one of two running backs inside McShay’s top 32.

Bijan Robinson has been catching the attention of NFL scouts since he stepped foot on campus.

ESPN’s Todd McShay ranks Robinson as the No. 8 overall professional prospect entering the 2022 season. Bijan is one of two running backs inside McShay’s top 32.

Robinson broke out on the scene towards the end of his freshman season with monster perfumes against Kansas State and Colorado in 2020.

The Arizona product carried his late-season success over to 2021 when he established himself as one of the best running back’s in the nation. Robinson totaled 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing with an additional 295 yards and four scores as a receiver.

Steve Sarkisian plans on using the preseason All-American to spearhead the Texas offense again this season. A big junior season would set Robinson up well to hear his named called in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Texas RB Bijan Robinson among 247Sports’ top-20 draft eligible players during 2022 season

Texas’ star running back is expected to be one of the best players in the nation in 2022.

It is certainly no secret that Bijan Robinson is among the nation’s best at his position, and simply just in general.

This season very well could end up being his last as a Longhorn should he decide to forgo his senior year and take his talents to the next level. Robinson has widely been regarded as one of the nation’s best players as prior to Texas’ horrendous stretch of collapses in 2021, he was consistently mentioned in Heisman talks. It’s something that has continued this offseason, as he is already being considered one of the nation’s top Heisman candidates for 2022.

247Sports not only sees the generational talent in Robinson at the college level, but also sees the potential he has to be a star in the NFL. They released their top-20 eligible draft players for 2022 on Wednesday, and Robinson graced this list with players such as Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Will Anderson.

Robinson is in the top-10, and is the highest ranked running back on the list ahead of Zach Evans (Ole Miss), Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama), and Devin Achane (Texas A&M).

In two years as a Longhorn, Robinson has rushed for 1,830 yards and 15 touchdowns, all while averaging 6.5 yards per carry.

Texas will need another huge season from Robinson in order to compete for a Big 12 title, as he looks to become the first Longhorn running back taken in the first round since Ricky Williams in 1999.

CBS Sports lists Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown as one of the most underrated draft prospects

CBS Sports recently listed 20 underrated NFL draft prospects heading into the 2021 college football season.

Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is expected to be one of the primary playmakers for Pete Kwiatowski’s defensive unit this season. Continue reading “CBS Sports lists Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown as one of the most underrated draft prospects”

DeMarvion Overshown listed as a top 25 potential draft prospect for 2022

Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is listed as one of the top 25 most intriguing 2022 NFL draft prospects.

The 2021 NFL draft concluded a few days ago and the Longhorns were present in the event with five Texas players selected through the seven rounds, the most since the 2015 NFL draft.

It’s never too early to look ahead to next year’s draft and dissect who from the Longhorns could be a part of the event and/or who could potentially be selected in the early rounds.

The likely favorite appears to be linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who was listed as one of the most intriguing prospects by ESPN. Here’s what staff writer Dave Wilson had to say about Overshown:

In seven seasons at Washington, new Longhorns defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski had 17 players drafted. He’ll have a versatile new defender to utilize in DeMarvion Overshown this season in Austin. Overshown, a 6-4, 217-pound former safety, showed flashes of brilliance in his first season as a linebacker, culminating with MVP honors in the Alamo Bowl after he had six tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and two quarterback hurries against Colorado. With one more year of experience, Overshown should start climbing up draft boards. — Wilson

There hasn’t been an inside linebacker from Texas drafted in the first round since Tommy Nobis in 1966. If Overshown can build off a strong 2020 season, we could possibly see that streak end.
