The Kansas City Chiefs host two receivers with the same last name, but vastly different skill sets on their offseason roster. Both have shined brightly at the team’s organized team activities this week.

Head coach Andy Reid was asked about the pair of talented pass catchers, undrafted standout Justyn Ross and former first-round draft pick John Ross, at a media availability session on Wednesday. He spoke highly of their effort to this point in the team’s offseason program.

“I like both of the Ross’ (John and Justyn), big and little,” He explained. “So, the big one (Justyn Ross) is coming along. He feels good, his foot feels good (and) the surgery that he had worked out well up to this point. He’s made some nice plays for us out here. I know Pat’s (Mahomes) got trust in him, so that’s good to see. And the smaller Ross (John Ross) is extremely fast and quick. Before he got hurt, he was on to a pretty good season. I like what I see there, too.”

The Chiefs will need to maximize every bit of promise that both of these receivers have if they hope to repeat as champions in 2023. The former first-round pick out of Washington, John Ross, impressed media members at practice with his speed and poise, also catching the attention of his head coach.

“Well, he’s the one that jumped out at everybody at the combine just when he ran,” Reid said. “I mean, he was extremely fast. I think he set a record there, I believe. He can move, he can skedaddle and he’s smart, which you need to be in this thing.”

As for Justyn Ross, everyone already knows the promise shown by the undrafted free agent out of Clemson. He merely needs to stay on the field and healthy.

For now, though, fans will have to wait to get a glimpse of what is to come from each of these coveted prospects. In time, both will look to prove their long-tenured head coach right in his mid-May assessment of their trajectories.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid reveals his ideal cheeseburger construction

What does the perfect Andy Reid Cheeseburger look like? His answer was revealed during the #Chiefs’ Super Bowl media availability. | from @TheJohnDillon

With the Super Bowl just days away, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was available to the media all week and answered some hard-hitting questions about his game plan for Sunday’s championship tilt.

But perhaps the most important question asked over the course of the week regarded his favorite non-football subject; cheeseburgers.

When a reporter requested Reid to break down his ideal burger construction, Reid made it clear that there are really no bad options, with few exceptions.

“It’s gotta have a good bun, let’s start there,” Reid explained. “Fresh meat. And then you put anything else on it other than mustard, [and] you’re good. I’ll eat it.”

Aside from mustard aficionados, the construction of Reid’s burger should please all audiences. If Kansas City manages to pull out a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Chiefs fans can rest assured that Reid will enjoy a cheeseburger after the game, and might even double up on the patties.

Nick Sirianni describes Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s influence on his career

Sirianni said that Reid’s conduct in letting him go back in 2013 had an effect on him as a coach. | from @TheJohnDillon

When Andy Reid became the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2013, he couldn’t have known that he would face a member of the team’s incumbent coaching staff in a Super Bowl a decade later.

Reid technically fired Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni, who was with the Chiefs for four years between 2009 and 2012 in various roles on the offensive coaching staff. Instead of retaining Sirianni, who was under contract, Reid opted for his assistant head coach David Culley to coach his wide receivers. A role that would ultimately play a part in Culley’s short-lived stint as the head coach of the Houston Texans years later.

Reid’s coaching tree has already reached legendary status, and Sirianni told reporters at a media availability session on Tuesday about the role that the long-tenured Kansas City coach has played in his career.

“He was very good to me in the sense that he brought me in to talk to me,” Sirianni explained. “He didn’t have to do that. He didn’t have to bring me in to talk to me to let me go, right? But he did because it seems like that’s the type of person he is, that’s the kind of coach he is, and I was grateful for that.”

In describing the way that he was lifted up by Reid during a less-than-ideal time in his career, he didn’t hold back in letting the media know how much Reid’s encouragement meant to him.

“I was down in that moment,” Sirianni said, “and he gave me strength when I was down, he tried to pick me up when I was down, and I think that says a lot about his character and who he is, so I was appreciative of that.”

While there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood heading into this matchup, Chiefs fans can rest assured that Sirianni will be angling to secure his first Super Bowl win against Reid on Sunday.

Khalen Saunders shows his hilarious impression of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Saunders offered his best Patrick Mahomes impression to comedic effect at the Super Bowl media session this week. | from @TheJohnDillon

Kansas City Chiefs lineman Khalen Saunders has been a fixture on the team’s defense since they drafted him in 2019 out of Western Illinois. His contributions in stuffing the run and getting after the passer are well documented, but he showed a side of his personality at the Super Bowl media availability session this week, offering his impression of Patrick Mahomes’ signature walk to the sideline.

Check out his hilarious antics below, and notice how every detail of the trot and hand motion is meticulously rendered by the 300 pound lineman.

Clearly, Saunders has spent a fair amount of time watching Mahomes on gameday and in practice. The idiosyncrasies of his MVP quarterback haven’t been lost on the NFL’s national audience either, who have long poked fun at the way Mahomes seems to waddle on his way back to the huddle after passing plays.

Kansas City will rely on both Saunders and Mahomes on Sunday as they look to secure their second Super Bowl victory of the Andy Reid era. Chiefs fans will hope that the game plays out in such a way that enables their team to show their personality and have some fun on the sideline, even if it has to be at Mahomes’ expense.

Ravens OLB Odafe Oweh discusses excitement for future of team’s defense

Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh shared his excitement about the future of the team’s defense

While their last game of the season ended in a disappointing result, the Baltimore Ravens’ future has the potential to be very bright. With top-tier talent all over the field on defense, it seems that the health of the team’s offense will be key to the Ravens’ success in 2023.

Outside linebacker Odafe Oweh was asked in his end-of-season media availability session about his outlook for Baltimore’s defense moving forward, and he left no doubt as to his position on the matter, discussing how he’s excited to continue growing with high-school teammate David Ojabo.

“It’s definitely exciting,” Oweh said of the current roster’s prospects. “I’m excited for my brother [David] Ojabo. He didn’t really get his opportunity like he should’ve, but he’s definitely on his way up. I’m excited where he’s going to be at. Me and him are going to be working and just the whole defense. We’re all just going to mature, have another year together, and next year it’s going to be a better outcome by God’s grace.”

Nobody could blame Ravens fans for being peeved at the team’s playoff collapse against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend, but with the potential of such a promising future ahead, the Charm City faithful would be wise to hold out hope for even better results at the end of the 2023 campaign, especially with how the team’s defense was able to perform over the second half of the season.

Chiefs cancel media availability out of respect for Bills S Damar Hamlin

The #Chiefs have canceled their Tuesday media availability out of respect for Damar Hamlin and the #Bills organization.

The Kansas City Chiefs will not hold their usual media availability as the practice week gets underway on Tuesday.

Like many teams around the league, the Chiefs have opted to cancel their regularly-scheduled media availability in a show of solidarity for the Buffalo Bills organization and S Damar Hamlin. Hamlin, 24, suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit during “Monday Night Football” against the Bengals. CPR was administered and Hamlin’s heartbeat was restored on the field. He was transported to a local hospital in Cincinnati for treatment, where he currently remains in critical condition.

Chiefs PR staff shared the following message to reporters on Tuesday: “Out of respect for Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills organization we are canceling today’s media availability.”

Kansas City will hold practice on Tuesday as they prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are expected to address reporters on Wednesday.

4 takeaways from Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s Monday media availability

#Chiefs HC Andy Reid addressed the media on Monday, giving some updates after the bye week as well as revealing his favorite Halloween costume and candies.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-2, fresh off the bye week and they’re preparing to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 9. Andy Reid addressed media members on Monday, providing some context on a key personnel decision made during Week 7’s win over the San Francisco 49ers. He also provided an outlook on the team’s receiver group, provided insight into his post-bye week success and spoke on the Halloween holiday.

Here are some quick takeaways from what Reid had to say:

Doug Pederson emphasizing attention to detail ahead of week 1

Pederson knows that doing the little things right will help the #Jaguars overcome adversity through their rebuild.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars kick off their 2022 season against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, the team’s road to redemption will officially begin. The last two years have been entirely unproductive for the franchise, and after their huge investments in an elite coaching staff to pair with the high-end talent they possess on both sides of the ball, winning is expected to be the new norm in Duval County.

In his first year at the helm of the Jaguars, head coach Doug Pederson knows all too well what he is up against to turn the team’s fortunes around. His experience in bringing the Philadelphia Eagles their first Super Bowl victory after the failed Chip Kelly era will be indispensable to Jacksonville as they look to fix their culture and on-field product this season.

Pederson spoke to the media on Monday about what it would take to see the Jaguars’ rebuild through, and the faith he has in the current roster to take the franchise to new heights. To Pederson, it seems that the simplest solutions will pay the biggest dividends in the long term. He told reporters that his team is ready to play, and has a good sense of what it will take to achieve a winning record in 2022.

“[The] guys know what this week and really everything beyond this point really means,” Pederson explained. “Last week was just a matter of cleaning up the roster a little bit and adding some new additions, finalizing the practice squad, and all that stuff, and now we’re into game week. Every little thing we do matters, every little thing, how they take care of themselves away from the building and prepare themselves.

“It’s a good group, I think, that will handle it well. They can eliminate some distractions around them and just focus on ball, at least while they’re here. I think it’s important, too, that we are practicing, and it’s warm weather, and how they take care of themselves.”

Nothing Pederson said involved anything more than simple expectations for the professional athletes he and his staff have hand-picked to play in their system. Intensive preparation, the elimination of distraction, and acute attention to the finest details are a far cry from the 2021 Jaguars’ team identity but will be part of their core fabric this season.

Things are changing in Duval County, and if Pederson’s comments are more than just run-of-the-mill coach speak, Jaguars fans will have a lot to look forward to this season.

Doug Pederson explains unique challenges posed by Jaguars’ youthful roster

With so many first and second-year players on the roster, Pederson will have his hands full coaching up the #Jaguars this season.

In his second stint as an NFL head coach, Doug Pederson has big plans for the Jacksonville Jaguars in his first season with the team. He helped recruit big-name talent in free agency and oversaw a draft process that put his squad in a position to be successful in the regular season and for years to come.

The longevity factor is a major piece of what Pederson hopes to accomplish with this Jaguars rebuild; not just to win this year, but to continue winning in the future. He told reporters on Monday about how his experience in Jacksonville is unique from his previous tenure in Philadelphia, where he served as head coach of the Eagles from 2016-2020.

“I think the biggest thing is that we’re younger this time around for me, which I like,” Pederson explained. “The guys understand, too, the new additions to the team are all guys that can help us. They’re here for a reason. It’s unfortunate that the team they were on probably had to let them go, but it’s fortunate for us that we got them. We’re excited to work with these guys.

“They understand that it’s a process for them, too. They can’t just exhale that sigh of relief like, ‘I’ve made it.’ They’ve got to continue to work and prove that they can still hold a job next week. I think it’s the practice squad guys that it’s on a week-to-week basis, but it’s a good group, I’m excited to work with these guys, it’s an energetic bunch. We’ve got a sprinkle of veterans in there, too, so that’s good, too.”

One of his most challenging tasks this season will be his need to acclimate so many of the Jaguars’ younger talents to the rigors of professional football. With help from veterans like Shaquille Griffin, Dawuane Smoot, Brandon Scherff, and Christian Kirk, this relatively inexperienced crop of first and second-year players could bring Jacksonville back to relevance sooner than some may have expected a few months ago.
