Former Alabama WR Shazz Preston commits to Tulane

Tulane Green Wave lands former Alabama four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston

The new reality of college football is that no roster will ever look the same from year to year. Especially at programs such as Alabama and Ohio State where you have 20+ kids transferring out any given year and that many roster spots to replace it just turns into a revolving door.

So, for Alabama fans not only was losing the Rose Bowl a heartbreaker in itself, but then you have to worry about the purge of the roster. One of the first Alabama players to announce his intent to transfer was [autotag]Shazz Preston[/autotag] back on Jan. 2, before Saban had even decided to retire. In two years with the Tide, Preston appeared in 10 games – mainly on special teams.

Coming out of high school, Preston was a Top-100 recruit in the country and was ranked as the No. 8 WR in the ’22 cycle. Today, Preston announced his decision to continue his collegiate career at Tulane. Preston is originally a Louisiana native, so the move will definitely bring him closer to home.

Alabama WR Shazz Preston to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He became the fifth Crimson Tide player to do so.

Several dominoes are expected to fall in the coming days with the 2023-2024 season coming to an end for Alabama. The first has fallen since the Crimson Tide’s Rose Bowl loss to Michigan. On Tuesday evening, Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Preston became the fifth Alabama player to enter the transfer portal. He joined former teammates Ja’Corey Brooks, Thaiu Jones-Bell, Isaiah Hastings, and Anquin Barnes.

Preston, a former high sought-after recruit, spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa. The Louisiana native played in 10 games. He did not record any stats.

Coming out of high school, Preston chose the Crimson Tide over USC and Texas. It will be interesting to see if either program pursues him now that he is available once again.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest in regards to Alabama football players entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 18 days

We are now just 18 days away from the start of Alabama’s football season!

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2023 college football season in 18 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until Nick Saban and his team take the field.

with 18 days remaining, we will take a look at a former Tide receiver who just moved on to the NFL, [autotag]Slade Bolden[/autotag].

Bolden was a Swiss army knife for the Crimson Tide during his career in Tuscaloosa. Bolden collected 68 receptions for 712 yards and four touchdowns from 2019-21. Bolden even tossed a touchdown pass of six yards back in 2019.

Wide receiver Shazz Preston and defensive back Bray Hubbard currently wear No. 18 for the Crimson Tide.

Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s wide receivers

Projecting Alabama’s wide receiver depth chart post-spring!

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

Together we have already taken a look at the quarterbacks and running backs and today we will continue our dive into the offensive skill positions and glance at the wide receivers.

Let’s roll!

Predicting Alabama’s WR depth chart after the addition of Tyler Harrell

Projecting Alabama’s WR depth chart after the addition of Tyler Harrell

On Friday afternoon Nick Saban and the Alabama football team received a massive commitment via the transfer portal from former Louisville wide receiver Tyler Harrell.

Harrell will join a loaded but unproven wide receiver corp in Tuscaloosa and will most likely push for some significant playing time due to his elite ability to stretch a defense vertically.

It’s hard to say with absolute certainty who the starting receivers will be for the Tide this fall. Outside of Jermaine Burton, who coach Saban praised all throughout spring practice, there hasn’t been anyone that has taken the bull by the horns just yet.

With the addition of Harrell, I thought it was a good time to try and see if we can predict how things will shake up for Alabama at the wide receiver position.

First…X-WR position…

Pete Golding deserves some major recognition for his recruiting efforts

Maybe it’s time we give Golding the recognition he deserves as one of college football’s best recruiters!

Pete Golding called masterful games as Alabama’s defensive coordinator during the Iron Bowl against Auburn and the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.

But, before that, some of us questioned his abilities as a defensive play-caller, especially after the 41-38 loss on the road to Texas A&M. The Iron Bowl helped to change the narrative in a 24-22 4OT win in Jordan-Hare, where the Tide hadn’t won in six years. The defense continued to play its best football in the 41-24 SEC Championship Game win.

Here we are, in December, and Golding continues to hit his stride, this time on the recruiting trail. Golding helped bring seven recruits on board as commits, and on the Early National Signing Day, he helped the Tide sign six, with more expected to sign in the coming months prior to the official National Signing Day.

Among them are four-star wide receivers Shazz Preston and Aaron Anderson, four-star linebacker Shawn Murphy and four-star defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis.

That’s this year, sure, but Golding has been tearing it up on the recruiting trail since he arrived in 2017. His best commitments in his time at the Capstone are five-star linebacker Dallas Turner (who saw plenty of action this year due to injury), Kool-Aid McKinstry and five-star linebacker Drew Sanders (who also played several snaps before an injury put him out). This is a noticeable group of former recruits.

In my opinion, Golding has earned himself at least another season to prove that his defense can be consistent throughout an entire season, but we can certainly use his recruiting acumen for years to come.

Be thankful that our defensive coordinator is among the best recruiters in college football.

4-star WR Shazz Preston makes commitment

Four-star wide receiver recruit Shazz Preston has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. UGA was in the mix for Preston.

Four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Preston is a member of the class of 2022 and plays high school football for Saint James in Louisiana.

Preston is the No. 3 wide receiver prospect in his class, the No. 43 prospect overall and the fourth-best player in Louisiana.

On film, Preston displays good body control, is a solid route runner and frequently puts himself in a position to gain yards after the catch. Preston does a solid job of tracking the football and wins jump balls quite often for a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver.

The four-star prospect plays on a great high school team. St. James won a 3A state championship in 2019. In 2020, St. James advanced to the quarterfinals in 2020 before losing to Church Point.

Shazz Preston committed to Nick Saban and Alabama over Georgia, LSU, Southern and Texas. Alabama also landed a transfer from LSU, star cornerback Elias Ricks. Nick Saban continues to win on the recruiting trail.

Preston announced his commitment on ESPN:

SIGNED: 4-Star WR Shazz Preston inks NLI to join Crimson Tide

A big-time wide receiver has signed on with the Crimson Tide.

Alabama is a place where great wide receivers become first-round draft picks, and that is definitely taken into account when recruits choose their college programs. Shazz Preston may be the next great pass catcher to come through Tuscaloosa.

Preston, from Saint James, Louisiana, stands at 6-foot, 190 pounds and was a highly sought-after recruit.

He was offered by win-now programs such as Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia and others.

Since the beginning of December, it has been all Crimson for Preston. He received numerous predictions from experts and he officially committed today, the day he signed.

Stay up to date with Alabama’s 2022 class with Roll Tide Wire’s ‘Early Signing Day Tracker.’

LSU four-star target set to visit Alabama on Saturday

One of LSU’s top 2022 targets will take a visit to Alabama on Saturday.

The LSU Tigers are aiming to secure the commitment from 2022 four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston.

The Saint James product is ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country and No. 4 in the state of Louisiana according to 247Sports composite rankings. Many felt that LSU had the inside track on Preston’s recruitment but the firing of Ed Orgeron has opened the door. Much as we saw with Aaron Anderson, who recently flipped to the Tide.

On Saturday when LSU and Alabama kick off the game, Preston will be in attendance as he makes a visit to Tuscaloosa. It is a different environment in Tuscaloosa, especially on game day. Factor in a game against his home-state LSU Tigers, and it should be a raucous game.

Preston visited LSU back in June, six days later he was in Tuscaloosa for his unofficial visit.

“It’s exciting because I never experienced a Tuscaloosa game before. That’ll be my first time at a Tuscaloosa game,” Preston said. “It’s bigger than football at Alabama. It’s about family. It’s about character. It’s about building yourself as a better person. It’s all about life after football.” via The Advertiser

Current crystal ball predictions have LSU in the lead, but you can throw that out the window for now with no head coach in play. Especially when you figure that Nick Saban and the Alabama staff will use that in negative recruiting. Perhaps a strong performance by the Tigers could keep him on the Bayou.
