Tracking where all 17 former Alabama football players transferred to this off-season

LOOK: Transfer locations of all 17 players Alabama football lost this off-season

The transfer portal has completely changed the dynamics of the college football world. Programs like Alabama and Georgia have typically been able to stash away five-star players and reload when the time comes, but now some players expect immediate playing time and will enter the portal if they don’t see the field as early as they’d like. Also, there are many reasons for entering the portal, but having the ability to play is clearly a big one.

In some senses, the portal has started to take away some of that Alabama culture where everything must be earned. Guys like Jake Coker and Blake Sims had to wait multiple years to only start for one year, but that’s what makes it all that much more special.

The Crimson Tide have been very active members in the transfer portal in both ways. They have greatly benefitted from the additions of guys like Jameson Williamson and Jahmyr Gibbs in recent years. However, they have also been purged by the portal as much as anyone in the country with 17 players departing this offseason.

Below is the list of schools where the 17 players transferred to this offseason.

Former Alabama, Louisville wide receiver Tyler Harrell headed to South Beach

The Miami Hurricanes added a big play threat threat to their wide receiver room on Friday.

Miami native Tyler Harrell is returning home to finish out his college football career. Harrell, who has spent time with Louisville and Alabama will join the Miami Hurricanes as a graduate transfer. He announced his decision on Twitter on Friday.

Harrell was a breakout name in the ACC in 2021 where he recorded 523 yards and six touchdowns on 18 receptions in 12 games for the Louisville Cardinals. Following that breakout season, he would enter the transfer portal and commit to Alabama.

Unfortunately for Harrell, success would never materialize with the Crimson Tide in his one season in Tuscaloosa. He played in just six games for Alabama this past fall, recording two receptions for 18 yards. During his time with Alabama, he also suffered a lingering foot injury that would limit his time on the field.

The 6-foot-0, 194-pound wide receiver will hope that a return home to Miami will allow him to get back on the right track and finish his career out strong. A tremendous vertical threat, Harrell possesses elite speed that allows him to take the top off of nearly any defense.

Harrell will join a Miami wide receiver room that includes the likes of Colbie Young, Frank Lasdon Jr, Henry Parrish Jr., and others.

The Hurricanes are set to enter their second season under head coach Mario Cristobal. In year one of the Cristobal era, the Hurricanes were 5-7 including 3-5 in ACC play.

Harrell was mostly considered a three-star recruit coming out of Columbus High School in Miami, with ESPN rating him the highest as a four-star prospect. He committed to Louisville over 20 other scholarship offers including Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Oregon State, Purdue, Rutgers, and others.

Alabama WR Tyler Harrell unexpectedly enters the transfer portal

Alabama shockingly loses another WR to the transfer portal

After a one-year stint with the Alabama Crimson Tide, wide receiver [autotag]Tyler Harrell[/autotag] has shockingly re-entered the transfer portal. Harrell arrived in Tuscaloosa during the summer via the transfer portal after spending the first few years of his career with the Louisville Cardinals.

Unfortunately, Harrell was sidelined for most of the fall and didn’t see much action. In fact, he only had two catches for 18 yards. He likely was going to play a bigger role in the offense in 2023 so the move is a bit surprising.

Alabama retained Jermaine Burton for another year, but losing depth is never good. Especially when it is someone who has game-changing speed such as  Harrell.

Everything Nick Saban said on Monday of Austin Peay week

Everything Alabama football coach Nick Saban said on Monday of Austin Peay week.

Alabama’s final non-conference matchup of the 2022 regular season is now upon us. This Saturday the Crimson Tide will host Austin Peay before closing out the season against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

As he does each Monday during the season, Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] stepped behind the podium to discuss his team and the upcoming opponent.

Coach Saban would be very complimentary of Austin Peay during his press conference and made the point to express the need for his team to prepare for the Governors just as they would for any other game.

Here is everything coach Saban had to say:

5 potential breakout players following Alabama’s bye week

5 potential breakout players following Alabama’s bye week.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team are wrapping up their bye before completing the final third of the regular season.

Despite their loss to Tennessee, the Crimson Tide still remain in the hunt for an SEC West crown and a trip to the SEC Championship. But the road to Atlanta will not be easy for the Tide.

Following the bye week, Alabama will make back-to-back road trips to ranked LSU and ranked Ole Miss before finishing the season off at home with Austin Peay and arch-rival Auburn.

It seems like every year a handful of players find their groove toward the back half of the season and begin to make an impact on the team. Let’s take a look at five potential members of the Crimson Tide that could breakout following the bye week.

Everything Nick Saban said on Monday of Alabama’s bye week

Everything Nick Saban said on Monday of Alabama’s bye week.

The Alabama Crimson Tide enter their bye week with a 7-1 overall record including a 4-1 record in SEC conference play. Despite suffering a loss a couple of weeks ago, Alabama still controls its own destiny.

On Monday, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban made the quick trip to Birmingham to speak at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.

There’s no question that Alabama has a lot to improve on during the bye week and coach Saban would touch on that topic as well as a handful of others.

Here is everything that coach Saban had to say on the Crimson Tide’s first day of the bye week.

Tyler Harrell is reaching a point where Alabama ‘can start to use him’ according to Nick Saban

The Alabama offense may unveil a new weapon this weekend against Mississippi State.

Despite how fantastic [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] has looked so far this season, it seems like there is just a little something missing from the Alabama offense.

Last season, Tide fans were spoiled by the vertical threat that was Jameson Williams. Alabama has yet to find a guy out wide that can blow past the defense and be a vertical threat for the Young and the offense.

That may be about to change if Lousiville wide receiver [autotag]Tyler Harrell[/autotag] can find his way onto the field. Harrell transferred to the Tide with high hopes but injuries have plagued the speedster from Miami.

During his Wednesday teleconference, Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] addressed the status of Harrell. “He’s been practicing. He actually was available for the last game. He’s getting more and more reps, more and more comfortable with what he’s doing,” Saban told reporters. “There’s a possibility that he’s getting to the point where we can start to use him.”

If Harrell is finally healthy and comfortable in the Alabama offense, his vertical threat could be the shot in the arm the Crimson Tide offense needs as they hit the back half of the season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Harrell’s status as the week continues.

10 Alabama football players that should see more playing time in the weeks to come

Here are several of Alabama’s current players who should be seeing more playing time in the future.

Alabama has looked inconsistent at times this season. That goes for both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Certain position groups have shown strides of improvement while other spots have struggled down the stretch.

Everybody knows that talent isn’t a question. There has been an abundance of talent that has been recruited at each of the different position groups. That goes for both the offense and defense. As the season progresses, Alabama’s coaching staff will work to put players in the best position to be successful.

Through the first seven weeks, the team has had its share of highs and lows. Whatever the case may be, there is still plenty of time to fix the areas of concern and prevent these issues from re-occurring in the future.

There is always room for more playmakers and leaders. That is why Alabama’s depth could come into play throughout the course of the season. Today, Roll Tide Wire looks at 10 Crimson Tide players who should see more playing time in the near future.

Will Alabama implement two new WRs into the rotation for the Mississippi State game?

There is a strong possibility that two wide receivers will make their debuts at Alabama in the near future.

Thus far, two wide receivers, Tyler Harrell and Aaron Anderson have yet to make their debuts at Alabama. The two missed the first four games due to injury but haven’t seen any action up to this point after being suited up for several weeks now.

The expectation to begin the season was that Harrell would have a sizable role at wide receiver. However, that has not been the case so far. At Louisville, Harrell hauled in 20 receptions for 559 receiving yards and six touchdowns. The junior averaged almost 24 yards per catch with the Cardinals.

It has been somewhat surprising to see Harrell on the bench since he has been available to play. There is a possibility that he will be featured at some point but that remains unknown as of now.

The other wide receiver that could soon be implemented into the wide receiver rotation is freshman Aaron Anderson. After having an impressive spring, Anderson was projected to see playing time at the Z position (slot wide receiver). However, a knee injury sidelined Anderson for the first few games.

Now, both appear to be healthy as seen in a recent tweet by AL.com’s Michael Casagrande. It will be interesting to see if either of the two sees playing time in this weekend’s game against Mississippi State. Alabama has played a number of wide receivers and could add two playmakers to the offense for quarterback Bryce Young to throw the ball to.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the Alabama football roster as well as other Alabama football news.

Alabama Football injury report heading into Week 4 vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

The latest injury report for Alabama Football heading into Week 4 matchup versus Vanderbilt.

Alabama has been fortunate to remain healthy for the most part. Through the first three games, only several of the Tide’s players have suffered injuries. Almost all of them have been minor. Coach Saban also mentioned in a press conference last week that the expectation is that two of Alabama’s key playmakers will return for the Arkansas game on Oct. 1.

In recent years, Alabama has been plagued with season-ending injuries. Last season, both Jameson Williams and John Metchie III suffered season-ending injuries. Now, the Crimson Tide are hoping to remain healthy as they are approaching a tough stretch of conference games. After Vanderbilt, the schedule gets tough for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will travel to Fayetteville to face Arkansas on Oct. 1. Then, the Crimson Tide will return home to face Texas A&M on Oct. 8. The last opponent for the three-game stretch will be Tennessee on Oct. 15. It is crucial that Alabama can remain healthy because this is likely the toughest skid of the season for the Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide Wire will now take a look at Alabama’s injury report ahead of their Week 4 matchup versus Vanderbilt.
