These five Alabama football players are being undervalued heading into the 2023 college football season!
Before you know it, the 2023 college football season will be here. Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field on Sept. 2 against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders to begin its quest for another national championship.
As we navigate the perpetual offseason, most of the talk leading up to the college football season, relative to the Crimson Tide, is the ongoing quarterback battle in Tuscaloosa.
Instead of bogging you down with continuous quarterback talk, let’s take a few moments and look at some of the players on the roster who are not receiving quite the notoriety that they deserve.
Below is a list of five players that I believe are being slept on leading up to the 2023 season!
Projecting Alabama’s offensive line depth post-spring!
Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.
Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.
So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.
“I’m not pleased with where we are. I’m not disappointed in where we are,” says Nick Saban following Alabama’s fifth spring practice!
The Alabama football team wrapped up its fifth spring practice on Thursday afternoon on the Thomas-Drew Fields. The practice would complete week two of spring football for the Tide and now we are only just three weeks away from the annual A-Day Game from Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Following Thursday’s two-hour practice, Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] would make his way to the podium to speak to members of the media about how the spring festivities are going.
Coach Saban would speak on the progress his team is making as well as honor the late Mal Moore who passed away ten years ago on Thursday.
Nick Saban and his staff selected 12 total players as players of the week following Alabama’s 49-27 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
On Monday, following Alabama’s 49-27 win over their arch-rivals the Auburn Tigers, the Crimson Tide coaching staff selected a total of 12 members of the team as players of the week.
On offense, the coaching staff selected a total of seven players including star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] who accumulated over 300 yards passing on the day. The coaching staff also recognized all of the starting offensive linemen including Tyler Booker who splits time at guard with Javion Cohen.
The defense was represented by Will Anderson and Brian Branch while Ja’Corey Brooks, James Burnip, and Emmanuel Henderson got the nod with their roles on special teams.
Here is what the coaching staff credited each player with on Alabama’s official website rolltide.com.
Roll Tide Wire takes a look at Alabama’s injury report heading into week one’s matchup with the Utah State Aggies.
During fall practices, Alabama suffered a few injuries to key positions, such as wide receiver and cornerback.
Sophomore JoJo Earle suffered a fractured foot during fall practice. Along with Earle, incoming transfer Tyler Harrell has been recovering from a sprained foot, which Coach Saban mentioned during his press conference this past week.
Several other Alabama players were listed on the latest injury report that was posted by Tide Illustrated’s Tony Tsoukalas. The three that were mentioned in Tsoukalas’s tweet were Seth McLaughlin, Eli Ricks, and Khyree Jackson.
Eli Ricks has been dealing with a lingering back injury. However, Coach Saban said in his presser that he dressed out and warmed up during Alabama’s second scrimmage on July 20. On the other hand, Khyree Jackson has been nursing a groin injury, but Coach Saban did mention that he was available and participated in the second scrimmage.
Seth McLaughlin served primarily as the backup center until starting center Darrian Dalcourt suffered an injury late in the season. Although McLaughlin was expected by many to be the starting center in week one, that does not appear to be the case. Coach Saban mentioned that he did not participate in the latest scrimmage.

A lot can change between now and A-Day, but let’s predict Alabama’s starting offensive line as spring practice begins.
Nick Saban and the Alabama football team began spring practice on Friday afternoon and one of the biggest question marks entering spring is the offensive line.
With just one practice completed, there isn’t any real significant information to use to try and predict how the starting offensive line will look this spring.
So this prediction is simply an educated guess. Truth be told, this prediction is likely to change before spring practice has been completed. All of us will know a lot more about this unit come April 16 when Alabama will host its annual “A-Day” game.
Alabama Football: 5 position groups to watch this spring
Although Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide were not able to claim a national championship this past season, the 2021 team still accomplished quite a bit.
The Tide won the SEC Championship and finished with an impressive 13-2 record and Bryce Young became the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy.
Now that the season has come to an end, let’s shift our focus to spring practice and which position groups Alabama fans should be watching when the Tide returns to practice in a couple of months.
What Nick Saban said in his Wednesday press conference leading up to Alabama’s matchup with the New Mexico State Aggies.
Moments ago Alabama head coach Nick Saban addressed the media in his usual Wednesday evening time slot.
As usual, Saban began the press conference with an opening statement then proceeded to answer a handful of questions from members of the media.
Below are a few items the coach touched on.
With Thursday being Veterans Day, Saban thanked all the veterans for their service.
Saban mentioned that his thoughts and prayers were with Cecil Hurt and his family as the long-time Alabama beat writer is currently in the hospital battling pneumonia.
Starting center Darrian Dalcourt remains day-to-day.
Seth McLaughlin would be the next man up at center according to coach Saban. Saban also mentioned that McLaughlin has all the intangibles the coaching staff is looking for in a center.
On Jahleel Billingsley’s dip in production, Saban mentioned that Billingsley needs to play faster and make better of the opportunities that he is given. Saban also said that Billingsley can certainly be an asset for the Alabama offense.
On the offensive line and running backs, Saban said that each group has responded well this week, but also mentioned that the entire team needs to play better.

We are only 56 days from Alabama football kicking off its season. With the cancelled USC game, we’re just not sure who the opponent with be.
Alabama’s opening week game against the USC Trojans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Tex.) has officially been cancelled after the Pac-12 recently made the announcement that it would be playing a conference-only schedule in 2020.
Yes, that was unfortunate news, and yes, that means the Crimson Tide is looking for a new opponent to open its season with on Sept. 5, but as of right now, that is still the target date to open the season. Until that changes, we’ll continue the countdown to kickoff.
With it now being July 11, we are officially 56 days away from the start!
True freshman Seth McLaughlin, a three-star offensive lineman from Buford (Ga.) who just recently got to campus, will wear the No. 56 for the Crimson Tide. The 6-foot-4, 278-pounder will compete for a two-deep spot at center.
A high school teammate of mine at Athens High School, former defensive lineman/outside linebacker William Ming, also rocked the No. 56 for Alabama from 2009-12.
But most notably, former outside linebacker Tim Williams, who is now a member of the Green Bay Packers, wore the number from 2013-16. He accumulated 20.0 sacks in his career at Alabama, with 18.5 of those coming in his last two seasons.
