Seth Lundy gets his official jersey number with Atlanta Hawks

Now teammates with the Atlanta Hawks, former Michigan and Penn State player reflect on their Big Ten battles

Former Penn State guard [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag] is already making himself at home with his new team, the Atlanta Hawks. But with a new team and a new career comes a new uniform number for Lundy.

The Hawks introduced their NBA draft picks on Monday, including Lundy, and had their newest additions pose with their new uniforms and jersey numbers. Lundy held up his new no. 8 jersey alongside his new teammates Kobe Bufkin and Mouhamed Gueye.

And then, after a quick wardrobe change, Lundy and his fellow rookies suited up in their uniform for the first time.

Lundy and Bufkin, a former Michigan player and Atlanta’s first-round draft pick, reflected on playing against each other as Big Ten foes during a press conference with the media as well. Both were complimentary of the other and noted each was a staple on the scouting reports every time they played. Bufkin noted things were not so pretty when his Michigan teams had to come to Penn State, but Lundy made sure to remind everyone the two teams split the season series.

We’ll see just how much the Big Ten prepared both of these players for the next level.

2023 NBA draft a reminder of Micah Shrewsberry’s impact on Penn State basketball

Penn State’s historic NBA draft night a reminder of impact of Micah Shrewsberry

His time in Happy Valley may have been short, but Thursday night was a not-so-subtle reminder of just how much of an impact Micah Shrewsberry had on the Penn State men’s basketball program. A program that lacks in a rich basketball history ended its NCAA tournament drought in 2023 under Shrewsberry, and now the program has made history with its first pair of players being selected in the same NBA draft.

Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy were each selected in the second round of the 2023 NBA draft on Thursday night. It is the first time Penn State has had two players selected in the same NBA draft. It is also the first time Penn State has had any player drafted into the NBA since Tony Carr in 2018. Pickett and Lundy are just the third and fourth players, respectively, to be drafted by an NBA team since Penn State joined the Big Ten. The only other Penn State player to be drafted in the Big Ten era of the program is Calvin Booth, the current general manager of the Denver Nuggets (who made a move up in the draft to add Pickett to his team’s roster).

Shrewsberry deserves credit for helping make all of that happen. Shrewsberry came to Penn State with his experience in the NBA being an asset. A coach who had been credited with developing players for the next level lived up to the billing with Pickett and Lundy. Regardless of what happens in their future NBA careers, just being drafted out of Penn State is a testament to the work done by Shrewsberry.

It was one of Shrewsberry’s first moves to add Pickett to the roster once he was named the head coach of the program in 2021. Pickett was one of the top transfer players available out of Sienna at the time, and Pickett quickly became a top priority for Shrewsberry. It is safe to say that worked out as Pickett contributed right away for Penn State and put together an All-American caliber season in 2022-23.

Lundy had entered the transfer portal in 2021 with a coaching change underway at Penn State, but he later decided to remain with the program after Shrewsberry was hired. Lundy saw his scoring average and three-point shooting improve each of the past two seasons under Shrewsberry.

Shrewsberry left Penn State following the conclusion of the 2023 season, which ended in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Penn State’s first tournament appearance since 2011. Shrewsberry accepted an offer to become the next head basketball coach at Notre Dame, leaving Penn State once again in a bit of a rebuilding mode under his replacement, [autotag]Mike Rhoades[/autotag] from VCU. The bar has officially been set high for Rhoades as he now takes over a program that is coming off a rare NCAA tournament appearance and looking to replace two NBA draft picks.

NBA Draft: Seth Lundy drafted by Atlanta Hawks in Round 2

Atlanta Hawks draft Penn State guard Seth Lundy with mid-second round NBA draft pick.

Former Penn State guard Seth Lundy is officially heading off to the NBA. The Atlanta Hawks used the 46th overall pick, and with the 16th pick of the second round, to select Lundy on Thursday night in the 2023 NBA draft.

Lundy played was a fixture in the Penn State offense for all four years he was on campus, and he is coming off a career year for points per game (14.2), rebounds per game (6.3), and three-point percentage (.400). Lundy was a key player for helping Penn State return to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2011 and in making a run to the Big Ten championship game last season.

Lundy had a standout showing at the NBA combine leading up to the draft to improve his draft stock, helping to cement his draft outlook as a potential second-round draft prospect.

Lundy became the 15th player all-time to be drafted by an NBA franchise out of Penn State, but he helped make even more program history. Lundy and teammate Jalen Pickett became the first Penn State duo to be drafted in the same NBA draft.

ESPN Mock Draft has both Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy getting drafted

According to ESPN’s mock NBA draft, Penn State’s Seth Lundy and Jalen Pickett are about to be drafted.

With the NBA Draft coming up on Thursday, media outlets are putting together their mock drafts based on the information they’re hearing and what players fit best with prospective teams.

While [autotag]Jalen Pickett[/autotag] and [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag] aren’t expected to be first round picks, there is potential they can make history for Penn State basketball during the NBA Draft.

According to Real GM, there has only been 14 Penn State basketball players ever selected in the NBA Draft. The last player drafted was [autotag]Tony Carr[/autotag] in 2018 when he was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans in the second round.

There has also never been two Penn State players taken in the same NBA Draft in the program’s history.

ESPN’s most recent mock draft is predicting Pickett and Lundy will both hear their names called on Thursday night. Jonathan Givony, who released the mock, is as plugged into draft coverage as anyone in the country.

ESPN has the Penn State stars being selected one after another in the second round. Pickett is projected to be drafted by the Washington Wizards at 42 and Lundy is projected to be selected by Portland Trail Blazers at 43.

If both are selected on Thursday, they’ll make program history. But both players will want to make a name for themselves at the next level like they did in college and stick in the NBA.

The only Penn State player on an NBA roster currently is [autotag]Lamar Stevens[/autotag] with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While Pickett and Lundy almost certainly won’t be first round draft picks, they are continuing to add to the incredible legacy of the 2022-23 team.

Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy are second-round picks in CBS Sports NBA mock draft

Penn State has never had two players drafted in the same NBA draft. This mock draft predicts that is about to change.

The NBA draft will be held this week, on Thursday to be precise, and a pair of Penn State basketball standouts could be getting a call from an NBA franchise as a result. CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone updated his 2023 NBA mock draft and included [autotag]Jalen Pickett[/autotag] and [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag] in his full two-round mock draft leading up to this year’s NBA draft.

The first Nittany Lions projected off the big board by Boone is Lundy, who could be heading to the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets. Boone has Lundy going to the Nuggets with the 40th overall pick in the draft, and what a landing spot that would be for Lundy. The Nuggets are coming off their first NBA championship and do not have too many holes that need to be filled going into the 2023-24 season with the window open for a title defense.

Pickett, coming off a stellar season worthy of All-American accolades, is also projected to be a second-round pick according to Boone. And according to Boone’s mock draft, Pickett could go a few picks after his running mate. The Atlanta Hawks are projected to draft Pickett with the 46th overall pick in the updated mock draft. Pickett’s ability to score is his major selling point without some of the other athletic attributes teams look for in NBA prospects.

Penn State’s NBA draft history is far from rich with just 14 all-time draft picks. Just two of those have come since Penn State joined the Big Ten with Tony Carr in 2018 (New Orleans Pelicans) and Calvin Booth in 1999 (Washington Wizards). Booth has gone on to become the general manager for the NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

Given Penn State’s NBA draft history, it would be remarkable to see two players drafted in the same season. It could happen, but projecting the second round of the NBA draft can be a total guessing game. But it could end up being a big week for Penn State basketball!

Penn State senior Seth Lundy: ‘I’m the most versatile shooter in this draft’

Rookie Wire caught up with Lundy to discuss his college career, training for the draft, his potential role in the NBA and more.

Seth Lundy emerged as a tremendous shooter after four years at Penn State and the 23-year-old is looking to showcase that ability and more at the next level.

Lundy, who was named to the All-Big Ten honorable mention team,  averaged 14.2 points and 6.3 rebounds on 40% shooting from 3-point range in 36 games. He ranked 37th in the country in 3-point percentage and was second in the Big Ten in 3s per game (2.6).

The 6-foot-6 Lundy finished his college career with 1,282 points to become the 39th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He also ranks sixth in career 3s (229), ninth in free-throw percentage (81.4) and 20th in points.

Perhaps most impressively, Lundy improved each year on campus.

He averaged career highs across the board this past season and saw a massive jump in 3-point percentage, up from 34.8% as a junior. Overall, Lundy was the second-leading scorer on a team that picked up its first victory in the NCAA Tournament since 2001.

Now, Lundy is looking ahead to the next level.

He is projected to be a second-round pick this year given his potential to develop into a 3-and-D player at the next level. He boasts a 6-foot, 10-inch wingspan and is regarded as one of the top shooters in the draft with his ability to knock down shots in a variety of ways.

Lundy was among the prospects that competed in the draft combine last month in Chicago, Illinois. He emerged as one of the standouts after averaging 15 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds on 73% shooting from 3-point range (8-of-11) in two scrimmage games.

He has worked out with 11 teams throughout the pre-draft process and is rising up mock drafts as a result. He has received strong feedback from teams as they believe he has the potential to make an immediate impact on the court.

Rookie Wire caught up with Lundy this week to discuss his career at Penn State, training for the draft, team workouts, his potential role in the NBA and more.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: 58 projections after the early entry withdrawal deadline

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the early entry withdrawal deadline.

The NBA pre-draft process crossed another important checkpoint on the schedule with the early entry withdrawal deadline coming and going this week.

Prospects had the opportunity to test the waters and meet with teams to gain feedback on their potential draft stock. To maintain their remaining college eligibility, they had to withdraw from consideration by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

The deadline saw several potential second-round picks withdraw from the draft and return to school. With name, image and likeness playing a prevalent role in college basketball, players were likely swayed to stay one more year to work on their games and capitalize financially.

The 2024 draft is also projected to be weaker than in past years, which also may have played a role in some players opting against turning pro. They likely believe they will have a greater chance of being a first-round pick next year.

With several players off the board, teams can prioritize workouts and interviews with those individuals remaining in the draft. As a result, players’ stock will continue to fluctuate with less than three weeks to go until the draft.

Rookie Wire took a look at where the draft stands following the early entry withdrawal deadline. Team needs were taken into consideration for these picks.

Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy invited to NBA combine

Penn State’s Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy will have a chance to increase their NBA draft stock later this month.

Two of Penn State’s top basketball stars from last year are looking to turn some heads at the upcoming NBA combine. [autotag]Jalen Pickett[/autotag] and [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag] were each extended invitations to participate in the NBA’s combine event leading up to this year;’s NBA draft, which will allow each to refine their skills in hopes of being considered for a draft pick selection.

Pickett is coming off a stellar season that resulted in multiple All-American nods from college basketball media. Pickett averaged 17.7 points per game 7.4 rebounds per game, and 6.6 assists per game in his second season at Penn State. Pickett transferred to Penn State from Sienna and was recognized as one of the top transfer players of the year when he made the move to join Penn State and former head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Lundy finished off a four-year career with the Nittany Lions with his best season. As a senior, Lundy averaged career-highs of 14.2 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, and a .400 three-point percentage with 92 three-pointers made.

The NBA combine runs from Tuesday, May 16 through Thursday, May 18 in Chicago. The NBA draft will be held on Thursday, June 22.

Pickett and Lundy are hoping to be the first Penn State players drafted by an NBA team since Tony Carr was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2018.
