Michigan State will try to beat out the likes of Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State for one of the top recruits in the 2023 class – running back Richard Young.

The Spartans have extended a scholarship offer to the top running back in the 2023 class in Young. The Lehigh Acres, Fla. prospect revealed the scholarship offer from the Spartans on Wednesday evening.

Young is a five-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 1 running back in the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 21 overall prospect in the class. Young currently holds scholarship offers from 40-plus programs, including powerhouses such as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia and Oklahoma.

Young will be an extremely tough get for the Spartans with so many other big-time programs vying for his talents. But I do give the Spartans a ton of credit on swinging for the fences on this prospect. It at the very least shows Mel Tucker and his staff will continue to chase the top prospects and that’s what I like to see out of the program.

UGA football in top group for 5-star RB Richard Young

The Georgia Bulldogs have cracked Richard Young’s list of top schools. Young is the top-ranked running back recruit in the class of 2023.

Young plays for Lehigh Senior High School in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He is a five-star prospect with good size. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back is the No. 17 prospect in the class of 2023.

Young excels in the classroom in addition to being a standout for Lehigh Senior. He has to love the tradition of running backs at Georgia.

The elite running back has visited Florida, Clemson, Ohio State, FSU and Alabama this summer. He has scholarship offers from most of the top college football programs in the country.

Here’s a photo from Young’s visit to Athens this June:

Top 2023 running back puts Ohio State in top ten

Could Ohio State snag the No. 1 running back in the country two out of the last three years?

The top-rated running back in the 2023 class has decided to announce his list of potential schools to a top ten and Ohio State has made the cut. Richard Young has offers from just about every major program in the country but has decided to trim that list going into his junior year of high school.

Young is a speedster with good size and room to add more. As a sophomore at Lehigh Senior in Florida, he ran an 11.09 in the hundred meters.

Young’s final ten are a who’s who of college football royalty, so it seems Tony Alford will have his work cut out. Joining OSU on his list are Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, and USC.

Signing Young would be the second time in three years that Ohio State would land the No. 1 rated running back in the country joining TreVeyon Henderson from the 2021 class. However, there is a long way to go on this one.

Florida football makes top 10 for No. 1 running back recruit

Richard Young would be a game-changer for Florida. The No. 1 running back for 2023 named the Gators in his top 10.

Richard Young, the No. 1 running back in the class of 2023, named his top 10 on Sunday after receiving over 40 offers so far during recruitment. Florida made the cut along with Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC.

The 6-foot, 190-pound back out of Lehigh Senior (Fla.) received an offer from the Gators before he started high school, according to Chad Simmons of Rivals. Young visited Florida most recently for the Gators’ Friday Night Lights camp at the end of July but has told stories of visits to games where the Gators faced the Seminoles before the COVID-19 pandemic.

FSU is Florida’s biggest in-state competition when it comes to Young after a June visit to Tallahassee that the recruit “loved.” Yet, the larger threat might be Alabama, which Young has described as a dream school.

[exco_embed id=”e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”]

Running backs coach Greg Knox and head coach Dan Mullen have led the recruiting effort for Florida. Young knows he could be a major part of the offense for the Gators and Knox seems to be a fan of his skillset.

“He likes my vision, my cuts, my speed, how I read the holes and how I make cut backs,” young said to 247Sports. “He said he just likes how explosive I am and says he loves everything about how I play football. From what I have seen from their team, I think I could go in there and change their whole offense.”

Young has no timetable for his decision, but he’ll have plenty to consider as don’t of the nation’s top athletes. The 247Composite list has him No. 17 overall in the country, No. 5 in Florida and No. 1 at running back.

DeMarco Murray and Oklahoma eyeing the nation’s top back in 2023

Oklahoma keeps it rolling in the 2023 class, top running back lists Sooners among top schools.

Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners have been on a roll with the 2023 recruiting class. They already have four pledges from top athletes at their positions despite it being still quite early in the process. They don’t seem to be slowing.

On Saturday, OU received its latest commitment: five-star athlete Makai Lemon of Los Alamitos. The Sooners have gone all over the country to find their talent in the class. They could be in the hunt for the nation’s top running back, Richard Young of Lehigh, Florida.

That ranking is for good reason. Young is a home-run threat at the running back position. He shows good contact balance, and he can be quite elusive in the open field. Young has the ability to make a house call every time he touches the football. DeMarco Murray has to be salivating at the idea of adding him to a running back room that could have Raleek Brown, Gavin Sawchuk and Treyaun Webb. The trio has already committed to the class.

Young announced his top 10 schools on Sunday.

Clemson has made the cut for the nationā€™s top-ranked running back in the class of 2023.

Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Lehigh Senior five-star Richard Young released his top 10 on Sunday and included the Tigers, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Southern Cal.

Young (6-0, 190) is ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Young, who lists more than 40 total offers, added an offer from Clemson when he visited campus in late June.

As a sophomore last season, Young rushed for 982 yards and eight touchdowns on 100 carries, averaging 9.8 yards per attempt.

Looking Ahead: Running Back

After signing two running backs as part of the 2021 class in five-star Will Shipley and four-star Phil Mafah, landing a running back is not a critical need for the Tigers in the 2022 class, though they remain in the hunt.

Clemson continues to track some running backs, and one of those on the radar is Jennings (La.) four-star Trevor Etienne, of course the younger brother of former Clemson running back Travis Etienne.

Etienne participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp and attended the Tigers’ Elite Retreat in June. If he returns to campus for the All In Cookout this month as expected, it figures to further help Clemson’s chances with the nation’s No. 13 running back, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Beyond Etienne, the Tigers have only offered two other running backs in the 2022 class — five-star Emmanuel Henderson and four-star Branson Robinson. Henderson has already verbally committed to Alabama, while Robinson no-showed Clemsonā€™s Elite Retreat and is down to Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee ahead of his scheduled decision date July 22.

Looking ahead to the 2023 class, Clemson has offered just two running backs in the next cycle, including the nationā€™s No. 1 running back in Lehigh Senior (Lehigh Acres, Fla) five-star Richard Young and the nationā€™s No. 3 back, Blessed Trinity Catholic (Roswell, GA) four-star Justice Haynes.

Young (pictured above) was recently offered directly by Dabo Swinney on an unofficial visit to Clemsonā€™s campus.Ā

Young (6-0, 190) is the No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247sports Composite rankings.Ā

As a sophomore last season, Young rushed for 982 yards and eight touchdowns on 100 carries, averaging 9.8 yards per attempt.

The Tigers have spent a little bit more time on Haynes, who took his unofficial visit back on June 1. He officially received an offer from the Tigers nearly 23 days later. His patience and high character paid off, leading to a fateful phone call with Clemson running backs coach C.J. Spiller.

On the behalf of Clemsonā€™s offensive coaching staff, Spiller rewarded Haynes with the offer he had been waiting for.

ā€œIt means a lot,ā€ Haynes said of receiving an offer from the Tigers. ā€œClemson is a prestigious school, they do things differently around there. Like I said, yes, itā€™s one of my dream schools, for them to offer me, it means a lot.ā€

Haynes (5-10, 195) is the No. 3 running back and No. 72 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247sports Composite rankings.Ā

For now, Clemson has maintained its focus on Young and Haynes.Ā

Much less so, Rueben Owens, who is the nationā€™s No. 2 running back in the 2023 class. Even before he de-committed from the University of Texas, Owens was supposed to visit Clemson earlier this summer. That never took place and he hasnā€™t heard much of anything from Clemson or Spiller for that matter.Ā

It appears, at least for the time being, that the Tigers are keeping their options limited, as far as the running backs in the Class of 2023 are concerned.

Some other running back prospects we are keeping tabs on are Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Forkā€™s Jarvis Green and Miami (Fla.) Norland four-star Javin Simpkins, who is a Georgia Tech commit.

Wisconsin extends first offers in the class of 2023

Wisconsin made its first moves on the recruiting trail in the class of 2023 last week, offering Cameron Edge and Richard Young.

Wisconsin has officially added the first couple of pieces to its board in the 2023 recruiting class.

The Badgers extended their first two scholarship offers in the class last week, with Lehigh Senior (Lehigh, Fla.) athlete Richard Young earning the distinction as the first known player to receive one.

As Young mentioned in his tweet, Wisconsin became the sixth school to extend an offer last Wednesday, as Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami, Maryland and Kentucky (in that order) all beat Bucky to the punch here. He has announced additional offers from Indiana and Iowa State in the days since.

The 6-0, 190-pound prospect is listed as an athlete by the recruiting services but plays both running back and linebacker for Lehigh Senior.

Young looks like a player who will eventually have a pretty loaded offer list when all is said and done, so Wisconsin will have its work cut out staying relevant in this recruitment. That being said, the Badgers have proven they can recruit with the best of them at both the running back and linebacker positions. Additionally, Wisconsin recently offered 2021 linebacker Jake Chaney, a teammate of Young and a guy who appears to have a good amount of interest in the Badgers. If they are ultimately able to land Chaney, it certainly can’t hurt their chances with Young.

Two days after offering Young, Wisconsin extended its second offer in the class to quarterback Cameron Edge.

The 6-2, 190-pound signal-caller out of powerhouse DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.) had previously only been offered by Maryland and Massachusetts, but, just two hours after announcing his offer from the Badgers, announced another from LSU.

As with Young, Edge is a prospect who is likely to have his pick of some of the best schools in the country when he’s ready to decide. After all, if a juggernaut like LSU is offering a guy this early, odds are he’s an elite prospect.

The initial class of 2023 recruiting rankings have not yet been released, but both Young and Edge will probably end up slotted fairly high when they are.
