According to Horns247, that nonconference opponent will be UTEP, keeping the scheduled matchup the two schools had for this season. The Longhorns will be losing games against SEC opponent LSU and USF of the American.

While the news of an altered schedule was expected, how the conference would approach the season was up for debate. Twitter, of course, had some reaction to the announcement.

Cameron Jordan puts Troy Polamalu on notice with must-see new hairstyle

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan is looking to take up Steelers great Troy Polamalu’s legacy of epic hair styling in 2020.

Look out, Troy Polamalu: the Pittsburgh Steelers legend was known as much for the plays he made on the field as he was for his signature curly locks, but there’s a new challenger coming for his legeacy.

That would be New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, who debuted his newest hairstyle for the 2020 season on Saturday. Jordan prepared for Saints training camp by going for natural waves hanging down to his shoulders, with tastefully-sculpted mutton chops accenting the look.

It’s perfectly on-brand for Jordan, who has gotten creative with his hair throughout his NFL career. Ranging from flat top and high fades to long dreadlocks dyed black and gold, he’s never passed on the opportunity to express his sense of fashion. Last year, he even added a long Fu Manchu-style mustache to his toolbox, waxing it into a handlebar for his official NFL roster headshot.

Jordan did credit an activator product for his super-natural new look, but the details of his haircare regimen is being kept close to the vest. And more’s the pity, because whom amongst us wouldn’t want to try it out for themselves?

Naturally, Jordan’s personal news drew rave reviews and reactions:

NFL Top 100 Players of 2020: Marshon Lattimore is still in Mike Evans’ head

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans took issue with New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020.

[jwplayer MnGv1PHj-ThvAeFxT]

Few divisions around the NFL enjoy as strong of rivalries as the NFC South, with seemingly every team finding a bone to pick with each other. That extends to individual matchups between common opponents, like Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

When Lattimore was introduced on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020 list at No. 76, Evans was brought on to help discuss what makes Lattimore great. But when it was pointed out that Lattimore shut Evans down in their first meeting last season (NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill charted 29 matchups between them, with Evans failing to catch his only target) the big Buccaneers wideout took issue with how that was framed.

“Woah, woah, woah, he had a really good game against me?” Evans asked. “The defense had a really good game against me.”

Evans continued, “I will talk good about him — he’s a good player. I guess he had a good game and the whole team had a good game.”

When pressed, Evans did highlight a few of Lattimore’s strengths, saying, “He plays really hard. He’s physical. He makes good breaks on the ball. And he can tackle at corner. That’s not something a lot of corners can do, and he can do it.”

Lattimore has won the lion’s share of games against Evans since entering the league in 2017, though his bad day at the office in the 2018 season-opener left a lasting impression on some fans. While most of the hype videos for this year’s opening-day kickoff will focus on Tom Brady dueling Drew Brees, the latest entry in the Lattimore-versus-Evans saga is sure to be must-watch TV.

Twitter reacts to Tommy and James Brockermeyer committing to Alabama

It was a frustrating recruiting weekend for Texas, as Tommy and James Brockermeyer committed to Alabama. Here is how Twitter reacted:

It was a frustrating recruiting weekend for the Longhorns, as Tommy and James Brockermeyer committed to Alabama. With their father and older brother all playing at Texas, the twins were a triple legacy and a huge loss for Tom Herman and Herb Hand.

As usual, Twitter had somethings to say about the commitment, both in a good way and in a bad way. Some Longhorn fans had a meltdown and thought the writing was on the wall for Herman. Others thought things were fine and Texas could move forward.

Michael Thomas laughs off reported NFL request to hold partial wages in escrow

The NFL suggested 35% of wages be held in escrow during the 2020 season, which New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas scoffed at.

[jwplayer sYy0cuuY-ThvAeFxT]

Talks are ongoing between the NFL and the NFL Players Association as both sides gear up for the 2020 season despite the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic. One point of contention in recent conversations between labor and management is an NFL proposal to hold 35% of wages in escrow to help manage costs during the upcoming season.

Naturally, that wasn’t an appealing offer to the players’ union, which told ownership “to kick rocks” when the option was brought up. Superstar New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas took aim a little more directly at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the ownership group he represents, saying that, “Roger and those owners better use their billions and put it in escrow or plan accordingly.”

Thomas is likely more skeptical of whether a season can get off the ground while addressing players’ health concerns than he’s worried about whether it’ll be a profitable season. And he’s not alone in those concerns, with teammate Cameron Jordan laughing at the in-escrow suggestion as “an option on the table.”

NFL owners are clearly expecting some sort of loss in revenue from the 2020 season, probably due to decreased ticket sales and gameday concessions. But with new TV broadcasting contracts on the horizon and the collective wealth of league ownership (estimated at a combined net worth north of $72 billion among just the 10 richest team owners), owners are in a better position to take a financial hit this year than the players themselves.

Still, there will be ripple effects from a less-profitable 2020 season. The Saints stand to lose out on as much as $440 million if they aren’t able to bring fans into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year, and a big reflection of those losses will come in the form of a decreased 2021 salary cap. But we’re a long ways off from those anxieties becoming reality.

Rookie Wire names Greg Brown a top 2021 NBA Draft prospect

Incoming 2020 recruit Greg Brown has been named to the Rookie Wire’s top 60 prospects for the 2021 NBA Draft.

There is no denying the fact that Greg Brown is a top tier talent, so much so that the NBA G-League was a possible destination. Brown has made it known that he is a one and one prospect at the University of Texas. Head coach Shaka Smart hasn’t shied away from going after recruits who don’t plan on sticking it out past their freshman season. Brown will be a name often talked about when it comes to the NBA Draft.

In fact our colleagues at the Rookie Wire have him listed as one of the top 60 prospects for the 2021 NBA Draft.

Greg Brown averaged 20.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game on the AAU circuit in 2019 for the Texas Titans. Brown also had the second-best player efficiency rating (36.0) as well as the second-most points per game (20.2) among all participants in the 17U adidas Gold Gauntlet in 2018-19. He is a highlight-reel dunker, too, which can help his fame among more casual fans when he throws down on bigger stages.

It is a bit surprising to see Brown so low on their list considering the hype surrounding him. Especially given the fact that the G-League was more than willing to offer Brown a six-figure contract to join rather than going to the college ranks. Brown will have an opportunity to increase his draft stock and work his way into the first round discussion.

“His actual game has grown a great deal. How he sees the game, how he approaches the game, certain components of basketball and then the way that he interacts with his teammates, he’s really done with what you hope guys do from from ninth grade through 12th grade. He’s really grown up a lot.” -Shaka Smart on the evolution of Greg Brown’s game

Twitter reacts to Greg Brown committing to Texas

Greg Brown was the ninth-ranked recruit in the 2020 class. Here is how Twitter reacted to the biggest commitment of Shaka Smart’s tenure:

Greg Brown was the ninth-ranked recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. While there was some speculation if he would choose to go professional, Brown ended up choosing the collegiate route and committed to Texas.

It was a huge pickup for Shaka Smart and the Longhorns. He may only be a one and done product, but Brown is expected to take Texas to the next level next season.

Taysom Hill’s new Saints contract earns fiery Twitter reactions from NFL fans

The New Orleans Saints signed Taysom Hill to a two-year contract extension, prompting NFL Twitter to explode in an outpouring of reactions.

[jwplayer Vv1h2jbQ-ThvAeFxT]

Nothing brings avid football fans together like Taysom Hill. Whether he’s dropping back to pass or catching a throw himself, the damage he does to their fantasy football teams and carefully curated data spreadsheets is sure to get Twitter riled up.

On Sunday, Hill committed an even greater sin by signing a two-year, $21 million contract extension with the Saints that includes $16 million in guarantees. It puts him in prime position to take over for Drew Brees in 2021 as the Saints starting quarterback, while also putting football writers across the country in a fit as they try to rationalize how the Saints could spend so irresponsibly.
