Alabama RB Trey Sanders to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

The 2019 five-star RB will explore options elsewhere has he enters the transfer portal.

Former five-star running back from the 209 recruiting class, Trey Sanders, will enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of On3.

Sanders had high expectations for himself from the day he committed to the Crimson Tide. The IMG Academy product said he wanted to make a push for the Heisman in his true freshman season.

Unfortunately for Sanders, he suffered a knee injury early in his time with Alabama. When he recovered from the knee injury, he was sidelined for some time after being involved in a car accident.

Even when healthy, it appeared Sanders’ abilities didn’t translate well into the system the Crimson Tide was running.

He is a very talented athlete that carried offers from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Miami, Ohio State and other big-time programs.

Sanders had 116 carries for 528 yards and three touchdowns in his three seasons with Alabama.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Sanders and his journey through the transfer portal.

Jerick McKinnon praises Chiefs rookie RB Isiah Pacheco for top-tier work ethic

Veteran RB Jerick McKinnon praised #Chiefs rookie Isiah Pacheco for his work ethic and the way he’s adjusted to the NFL learning curve.

Heading into his ninth NFL season, every Kansas City Chiefs running back looks to Jerick McKinnon as the elder statesman in the room. Even Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones look to McKinnon for tips on ways to get better and how to have longevity in the league. The same goes for the rookies in the room, such as Isiah Pacheco and Tayon Fleet-Davis.

Addressing the media following Saturday’s practice, McKinnon was asked to share his thoughts about Pacheco after working with him at training camp. The seventh-round rookie has left an impression on the veteran running back with his humility, work ethic and athleticism.

“He’s a humble guy and his work ethic is top tier,” McKinnon said. “He’s real explosive and has nice size. Him and (Tayon) Fleet (Davis) both, big backs but they move really well. They have good footwork in the individual drills. I know the coaches think highly of them and so does everybody else on the team.”

Pacheco has seen the opportunity to showcase his ball skills in the past few days of practice. Most of the work going on right now is pass-catching and special teams work as the run drills won’t intensify until the pads come on next week.

“These last couple of days he has shown what he can do with the ball,” McKinnon continued. “Like I told him and the other guys, when you come in as a rookie, it’s going to be that big learning curve. Especially now, everything is flying. In OTA’s, it’s a little slower and you get to learn with the coach, and they break it down. Once you get to camp, it’s all cylinders. Just watching those guys each day just learn and come out and make progress has been amazing.”

Progress was certainly been made by Pacheco, who got snaps with the first-team offense in practice on Saturday. What he’s been able to accomplish in the classroom and on the field through that learning curve has led to some early chances to impress at training camp. He’s been able to think and play fast, but he’ll need to keep it up as camp rages on and we inch closer to the preseason.

Nations top RB in 2023 class chooses Louisville over Bama, others

Alabama misses out on a top prospect to an unlikely ACC program.

The top running back in the class of 2023, Rueben Owens, has committed to Louisville over Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and plenty of other major programs. Owens, the Texas native, is now Louisville’s second highest-rated recruit of all time.

Owens is a game-changer for the Cardinals. During his junior campaign, he had 248 carries for 2,989 yards and 46 touchdowns as well as 15 receptions for 252 yards and two scores.

The commitment does come as a surprise to many though as it seemingly came out of nowhere. Owens had previously been committed to Texas and had recently had strong connections with both TCU and Texas A&M. It will be worth following up to see if Owens stays with the Cardinals.

Ranking the Eagles’ rookies by potential impact in 2022

Ranking the Philadelphia Eagles rookies by potential impact in 2022

The Eagles finished the 2022 NFL draft with five players selected, and followed that up by signing 12 undrafted free agents to deals before their initial rookie minicamp.

Philadelphia’s five-man class offers the potential for two immediate starters on defense, and three key backups at interior offensive line, edge rusher, and tight end.

The 12-man undrafted free agent class offers the potential for key contributors at running back, cornerback, and edge rusher as well, but time will tell and the team won’t be together again until the start of training camp on July, 26.

With the Eagles on an extended break, here’s a ranking of Philadelphia’s rookies by potential impact in 2022.

Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs projected to be one of the SEC’s most impactful transfers

The newest Alabama RB could have the biggest impact in the conference with his electric style of play!

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban warned the nation that opening up a transfer portal may lead to some unintended consequences. When his warnings were not headed, Saban took full advantage of the portal.

With the 2022 season rapidly approaching, the Crimson Tide prepares with a loaded roster featuring plenty of talent that was recruited directly out of high school, but a small chunk that was recruited via the transfer portal.

One of those players was one of the best running backs in the nation last season: [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag] of Georgia Tech.

There is a history of strong running back play within the Alabama program. Last season, Brian Robinson jr. was handed the torch and, though not flashy, performed well. Gibbs now takes over the role as lead back and hopes to follow in the footsteps of those who have come before him.

This is a win-win scenario for both parties involved. Gibbs will likely only spend one season in Tuscaloosa but will get to appear on the nation’s biggest stage every week while wearing crimson. Alabama will be able to utilize Gibbs as a versatile running back for one season, allowing the younger guys in the RB room to gain some valuable and needed experience.

CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee broke down some of the SEC’s biggest incoming transfers for the 2022 college football season.

“The Crimson Tide have essentially turned the rest of college football into their own farm system, and coach Nick Saban called up Georgia Tech’s leading rusher to fill the void left by the departure of Brian Robinson Jr. Gibbs rushed for 746 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Yellow Jackets, averaging 5.22 yards per carry,” writes Sallee. “He popped off a 75-yard touchdown run in Alabama’s spring game despite running behind an offensive line that struggled for the majority of the scrimmage.”

Gibbs is a true multi-purpose back who can pound it between the tackles, but he also provides enough versatility to be a difference-maker as a receiver out of the backfield. Wide receiver is a bit of a concern in Tuscaloosa, so Gibbs should be the centerpiece of the new-look Crimson Tide offense.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide throughout the 2022 offseason.
