Eagles rookie minicamp began on Friday for five draft picks, 12 undrafted free agents, and 19 selected players invited to try out for the 2022 squad.

Day one was held inside because of the weather conditions, but that didn’t stop Jordan Davis, Cam Jurgens, Nakobe Dean, Kyron Johnson, Grant Calcaterra, Carson Strong, Noah Elliss, and others from taking the first steps to reaching their ultimate dreams.

With Day 2 less than 16 hours away, here are the top-42 photos from Day one.

Philadelphia Eagles assign jersey numbers for their five-man 2022 NFL draft class

With the Eagles’ 2022 rookie draft class set and working out at the NovaCare Complex for the start of a minicamp, three of those impact players will have new uniform numbers.

On Friday afternoon, Philadelphia announced the new jersey numbers for the five players selected last weekend during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jordan Davis switched numbers because the legendary Jerome Brown’s No. 99 will never be worn again, while Grant Calcaterra will likely switch numbers again before the regular season starts.

Eagles’ Jason Kelce on Cam Jurgens being his favorite player in the NFL draft

Philadelphia Eagles’ legendary center Jason Kelce on second-round pick Cam Jurgens being his favorite player in the NFL draft

The Eagles drafted Nebraska center Cam Jurgens in the second round with the 51st pick in the draft and they didn’t have to worry about asking Jason Kelce for permission.

Philadelphia team officials have had Kelce scouting prospects over the past two seasons and on Friday night while working the draft for Bleacher Report, Kelce referred to Jurgens as the closest comparison to himself in the draft.

The Eagles All-Pro even referred to Jurgens as his favorite player in the draft on Friday night.

There’s been some discussion among fans and pundits about the pick, but Jurgens adds value to the roster and he’ll get an opportunity to learn from Kelce as a rookie, something that’ll be invaluable for his career.

While meeting with the media just now, Jurgen says that he models his game after Kelce, highlighting that impressive athletic ability that the Eagles center plays with.

Philadelphia admittedly is still in rebuild mode and they’ve continued to fortify the league’s top offensive line for years to come.

Instant analysis of Eagles picking Cam Jurgens in second round

Instant analysis of the Philadelphia Eagles picking former Nebraska center Cam Jurgens in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft

With the Eagles going for depth over the sexy pick, Philadelphia passed on Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean in round two, choosing former Nebraska center Cam Jurgens instead at No. 51 overall.

The likely successor to Jason Kelce at the center position, Jurgens was a three-year starter for the Cornhuskers and a versatile athlete that played the tight end position in high school.

With Philadelphia off the board until late in the third round, here’s an instant analysis and observations from round two.

The Eagles decided against trading down from pick No. 51 overall and went with Cameron Jurgens, a center out of Nebraska.

Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network had previously reported that Jurgens could be a player to watch in the second round, and Philadelphia added more depth to the NFL’s top offensive line.

Jurgens should flourish in the Eagles’ zone-based scheme, as the athletic center was the fifth-fastest offensive lineman in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.92 a the NFL Combine.

A former high school tight end that started three years at Nebraska, Jurgens was a Third-Team All-Big Ten coaches selection, an Honorable-Mention All-Big Ten by the media, and on the Rimington Trophy Watch List in 2021.

Giants ‘showing a lot of interest’ in Nebraska OL Cameron Jurgens

The New York Giants are showing significant interest in Nebraska OL Cameron Jurgens and Tennessee-Chattanooga OL Cole Strange.

The New York Giants spent what little money they had addressing their offensive line in free agency. Most of the additions were along the interior, including the signing of Jon Feliciano, who is expected to start at center.

But general manager Joe Schoen is far from finished and he’s acknowledged that, telling reporters last week that O-Line remains a primary concern.

“The offensive line is important,” Schoen said during his pre-draft press conference. “I’m privy to recently where the offensive line was. We tried through free agency with the resources we have to upgrade the offensive line the best we can. That will continue through the draft.

“Again, if you want to build it up on both sides of the ball, build it up front. Offensive line, that’s very important.”

The Giants will almost certainly select an offensive tackle with one of their two first-round pick, but that likely won’t be all. They have additional needs, both short-term and long-term, especially along the interior.

One potential option the Giants could turn to is Nebraska center Cameron Jurgens, who Troy Pauline of Pro Football Network reports the team is quite interested in.

I’ve always felt Jurgens on Day 2 is much better value than Linderbaum in the first round. So, where does the Nebraska junior end up? Sources say Jurgens does not get past the Philadelphia Eagles’ 51st pick at the latest. The Baltimore Ravens have shown a ton of interest in Jurgens, and their second-round pick — the 45th of the draft — makes a lot of sense.

Earlier in the round, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, New York Giants, and Chicago Bears are teams showing a lot of interest in Jurgens.

But it’s not just Jurgens who the Giants are interested in. Pauline adds that they’ve also had eyes on Tennessee-Chattanooga center Cole Strange.

He also had private meetings and a workout for the Cincinnati Bengals. Both those teams are the ones to watch as the second round closes out. The New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks have shown a ton of interest in Strange and could target him at the top of Round 3.

It’s lying season, so it’s important to take all of these reports with a grain of salt. However, the Giants are uncertain about the future of Nick Gates and Feliciano is only signed to a one-year deal. They’re going to need some insurance at center, and that may come early-ish in the 2022 NFL draft.
