Pre-game Buzz: Clemson v. Duke

Some buzz before the Tigers season opener against Duke.

It’s finally time to play some football!

The Clemson Tigers are one of the teams that everyone is excited to see this season. The buzz for game one is high with a new starting quarterback, new offensive coordinator, and a stockpile of expectations.

The relationship between Cade Klubnik and Garret Riley will have a microscope on it. Riley is coming from TCU, turning their offense into one of the best last season, and Klubnik is coming off his first start which was in the Cheez-It Bowl. This is an excellent opportunity for both to establish themselves and truly earn the respect of Tiger Nation.

This is not an easy game, though. He’s opening a season with a conference game on the road, but I’m sure Swinney is thankful he has a stout defense to lean on.

Pregame social media buzz prior to Texas’ matchup with Kansas

Social media is active as ever prior to Texas’ home matchup with Kansas.

Can Texas end their four-game losing streak, or will Sarkisian’s Longhorns be embarrassed by one of the worst teams in college football?

There are so many unknowns going into this game, you would think it is one of the first games of the season. There are uncertainties at the quarterback, receiver, and linebacker positions.

Texas just finished the hardest part of their schedule, and it did not go well by any means.

In every one of their past four losses, the Longhorns were leading in the game, and three of those leads were by double-digits. It has become evident that this group of players is not the right group for this staff, which was made clear by a secretly recorded video of assistant coach Bo Davis ranting after the Iowa State loss.

This is a prime opportunity to end this losing skid, as Kansas has just one win on the year against an FCS team in South Dakota, and at this point a win is a win, as Texas is just fighting for bowl eligibility. It also helps to impress the many high level recruits in attendance that the Longhorns are trying to persuade to attend Texas.

A game against Kansas has never mattered more.

Pregame buzz as Texas prepares to take on Rice in Week 3

Wake up! It’s game day in Austin, Texas. Here is the pregame buzz as Texas gets ready to face Rice on Saturday night.

Wake up! It’s game day in Austin, Texas.

After a tough loss on the road to Arkansas, Steve Sarkisian’s Southwest Conference record is 0-1. He will have a chance to pull back to .500 Saturday night at home against Rice.

The big news of the week is Casey Thompson getting the starting nod at quarterback. After Hudson Card struggled last week, Sarkisian decided to make the change. Both are expected to play throughout, getting a test run before Big 12 play begins next week.

Adjustments are needed throughout the field as well, not just at quarterback. Kyle Flood’s offensive line struggled mightily against an SEC caliber defense and needs to respond. The same starting five of Jones-Okafor-Majors-Angilau-Kerstetter is expected to make the start.

Pete Kwiatkowski’s unit needs to improve as well.

The only reason Texas was in the game coming out of the halftime gate against Arkansas was because of the defense. However, no Longhorn could make a stop in the run game in the second half. Better pressure from the defensive line would be considered a win.

Pregame buzz as No. 15 Texas prepares to take on Arkansas in Week 2

Social media is buzzin ahead of Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Arkansas.

Texas is riding a wave of momentum after a 20 point win over No. 23 Louisiana in the season opener, but they have a tough task ahead of them in Week 2 as they travel to Fayetteville to face Arkansas in a sold-out stadium.

In Steve Sarkisian’s first game as head coach for Texas it seemed like the Longhorns were clicking on all cylinders. They were moving the ball down field with ease, the defense was able to contain the Ragin’ Cajuns, and special teams also performed well aside from the one missed field goal attempt.

Now, Texas must show that they can replicate that success in what will be their first road game of the season. How will the hostile environment impact the play of redshirt freshman quarterback Hudson Card?

The Longhorns are hoping that more receivers are able to get involved as Jordan Whittington, who recorded 7 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, was the lone standout of the group. Texas also needs the offensive line to step it up, as the Ragin’ Cajuns were getting constant pressure on the Texas quarterbacks.

Sarkisian stayed true to his plan to play both Card and Casey Thompson, and it will be interesting to see how soon or late Thompson meanders on to the field to take some snaps against Arkansas.

We’re now only hours away from kick off. Take a look at some of the pregame buzz taking place across social media before the game.
