Kentucky softball suffers a three game sweep by the Tennessee Volunteers

Kentucky softball is swept by the Tennessee Volunteers to end the season.

It was a rough weekend for the Kentucky softball team. They were hopeful going into a three-game series with a ranked Tennessee Volunteers team, but ended up losing all three games with their SEC rivals.

In game one, Kentucky opened the scoring with an Erin Coffel RBI. However, the Vols took a 3 – 1 lead in the fourth inning. Lauryn Borzilleri homered for the Cats to tie it, but Tennessee scored the last five runs of the game to win 8 – 3.

Ally Hutchins hit a three-run homer to open game two for the Wildcats. However, Kentucky wouldn’t score again, and Tennessee scored eight straight to once again win 8 – 3.

The series finale was a close one. Kentucky fell behind 2 – 0 early, but Peyton Plotts tied it with a two-run homerun. The Wildcats fell behind again, this time 7 – 2, but Kentucky made a big comeback. Ally Hutchins and Erica Thulen both hit homers and the game was tied at seven in regulation. In extra innings, Tennessee’s Taylor Pannell hit a game-winning homer to end the game and the series.

The regular season is now over for the Wildcats. They finish with a 30 – 21 record. They’ll open the SEC Tournament on Tuesday with Ole Miss. The game is at 7:00 PM and is on the SEC Network.
