2024 safety Peyton Woodyard flips commitment from Georgia to Alabama

Alabama had been recruiting Georgia commit Peyton Woodyard for several months. On Tuesday, Woodyard announced that he had flipped his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

Safety Peyton Woodyard of the 2024 class flipped his commitment from Georgia to Alabama on Tuesday morning. Woodyard had been committed to the Bulldogs since January.

Several insiders believed that USC, Alabama, and Ohio State were threats to flip Woodyard’s commitment. Ultimately, the Crimson Tide were able to reunite Woodyard with his lifelong friend, Zabien Brown. Brown committed to Alabama in July.

Woodyard plays for St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. Interestingly enough, Gerald Woodyard, Peyton’s father,  grew up in Mobile before moving to California. Despite growing up in California, Peyton and his family have been lifelong Alabama fans.

When speaking with On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Woodyard had the following to say about the Crimson Tide:

“The relationship I have with coach Saban and T Rob is great along with the aspect of Alabama being my dream school. My family is from Alabama so it’s always been in my blood. I feel like through prayer and long talks with the family this is where I’m truly supposed to be.”

Woodyard is the fourth defensive back to commit to Alabama as a part of the 2024 recruiting class. He joins fellow defensive back commits Jameer Grimsley, Jaylen Mbakwe, and Zabien Brown.

4-star safety Peyton Woodyard flips to Alabama

Peyton Woodyard, a four-star safety, has flipped his commitment from UGA to Alabama

Four-star safety recruit Peyton Woodyard had been committed to the Georgia Bulldogs since January 2023. Now, Woodyard has flipped to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The four-star safety is the No. 6 player at his position and the No. 81 overall prospect in the class of 2024, per 247Sports. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is the ninth-ranked recruit in California.

Peyton Woodyard, who is a member of the class of 2024, plays football for St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. St. John Bosco beat national powerhouse Mater Dei during the 2022 high school season to win a division title.

Kirby Smart and company have commitments from 26 players in the class of 2024. Georgia has the top ranked class of 2024 in the country. However, Georgia needs to add a few commitments at defensive back. Georgia recently lost a commitment from four-star safety Jaylen Heyward. Additionally, the Dawgs missed on five-star KJ Bolden.

Woodyard detailed why he flipped from Georgia to Alabama to ON3.

I feel like at the end of the day it was a no-brainer with the DB pedigree they have over there at Alabama.

Woodyard announced his decision to flip his commitment from Georgia to Alabama via social media:

What’s next for Ohio State recruiting after missing on safety KJ Bolden

Who are the most logical targets the Buckeyes should go after? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] must once again reset its recruiting board after missing out on 2024 5-star safety [autotag]KJ Bolden[/autotag], who surprised many and chose Florida State over the field.

Not many people expected Bolden to select the Seminoles, in fact, the majority of insiders believed that his top choices were Georgia and Auburn. Regardless of where the 6-foot, 1-inch, 185-pound safety is going, he still didn’t pick the Buckeyes.

Bolden was one of the biggest remaining targets on Ohio State’s board, especially considering that he is ranked as the No. 1 safety and 7th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Find out below which targets the Buckeyes will recruit harder now that the Georgian has made his verbal commitment.

Report: Ohio State is trying to flip two 2024 defensive targets

The Buckeyes are still going after these two committed prospects #GoBucks

With recruiting, any prospect committed is just a tentative agreement with the school until they officially sign. That means [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], like others, continues to recruit players who have made their verbals.

The Buckeyes situation is unique. They have assembled one of the top offensive groups of commits in the country, so their recently focus has been on the defensive side of the ball.

They have hit on a few of their main targets, defensive tackle Justin Scott and cornerback Miles Lockhart.

There were a few they missed out on. According to two Rivals recruiting experts, however, the Buckeyes aren’t done trying to flip some prospects. Find out below which two players Ohio State is still heavily recruiting.

4-star Georgia commit Peyton Woodyard taking official visit to Athens

Georgia has a very talented and perhaps a little bit crowded group at the safety position in the 2024 cycle.

Elite safety recruit Peyton Woodyard is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Woodyard made his decision to commit to the Dawgs back in January.

Peyton Woodyard, who is a member of the class of 2024, plays high school football for St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. St. John Bosco beat national powerhouse Mater Dei during the 2022 high school season to win a division title.

Georgia football is off to an excellent start with recruits in the rising senior class. Kirby Smart and company have commitments from 16 players in the class of 2024. Georgia has the top-ranked class of 2024 in the country.

Georgia is expected to sign a loaded group at the safety position. Georgia currently holds commitments from three safeties ranked in the top six players at their position. Additionally, Georgia is looking to add a commitment from another top tier safety in Buford High School’s KJ Bolden.

Could Georgia sign four of the top safety recruits? Or would that be too crowded of a signing class? The Bulldogs could try playing KJ Bolden, who is a versatile athlete, at another position.

Woodyard is considered a four-star recruit. The elite safety is the No. 4 player at his position and the No. 69 overall prospect in the class of 2024. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is the seventh-ranked recruit in California.

Peyton Woodyard will likely be recruiting other top uncommitted prospects while he visits Georgia on June 2-4.

Woodyard announced his plans to take an official visit to Georgia football via Twitter:

Is Ohio State trying to flip a 2024 Georgia commit?

The spatula is getting warm #GoBucks

Back in January when California elite safety [autotag]Peyton Woodyard[/autotag] made his verbal commitment to Georgia, many thought [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and his other finalists wouldn’t factor into his recruitment.

As they say in recruiting, it’s not over until the prospect signs and that looks to be the case with Woodyard. Over the spring the defensive back visited Columbus along with Tuscaloosa which had many thinking Woodyard hasn’t made a final decision.

According to this report (subscription required) by 247Sports Greg Biggins, Woodyard most likely will make a few official visits, with Ohio State very much in the running. He said that “if we had to guess, all three schools (Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia) will get official visits.”

That was before today, as Woodyard has made up his mind. He will take an official visit to Columbus on the weekend of June 16th.

Woodyard is regarded as one of the best players in the nation, regardless of position. The 247Sports composite ranks him as the 61st overall player and the 4th best safety in the country. At the current moment, Ohio State does not have a safety commit in the 2024 class.

Ohio State 2024 five-star safety prospect will make decision at All-American Bowl

Will be pick the Buckeyes? #GoBucks

When 2024 Florida wide receiver [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag] made his verbal commitment to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] in mid-December, he mentioned that he was going to put his recruiting hat on for Ohio State. One of those targets that Smith mentioned by name was California safety [autotag]Peyton Woodyard[/autotag].

It’s not normal for a player who is over a year away from being eligible to play in the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag] to have the opportunity to participate, but Woodyard will have the honor of being the first. He will do the hat selection during the game as the 5-star safety will select from Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Texas, and the Buckeyes.

We will find out if Smith’s recruitment along with Buckeye head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his effort has won over Woodyard. Ohio State is in dire need of secondary depth and Woodyard would be a great addition to a class that should end up as one of the best in the country when it’s all said and done.

Gators make the cut for this 2024 4-star DB, January decision date set

The Florida Gators are one of seven teams left in the race for 2024 four-star defensive back Peyton Woodyard, who will make his commitment in early 2023.

The Gators are one of seven teams left in the recruiting race for 2024 four-star defensive back [autotag]Peyton Woodyard[/autotag] out of St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California, according to 247Sports.

Florida made the cut on Sunday along with Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and USC. Woodyard said that he’ll be focusing on those programs moving forward and that he’ll be deciding among them on Jan. 7 at the All-American Bowl.

Although he hasn’t been to the Swamp just yet, Woodyard has a favorable impression of UF and is high on the new coaching staff despite a 6-6 finish to the season.

“Florida is the one school I haven’t been to yet but I’m going to visit when our season is over. I’ve heard great things and I know I’ll like it there. Patrick Toney is a great coach and they run the same defense we do here at Bosco. I’ve had great conversations with coach Napier as well and I think I would fit in well there.”

Woodyard wants to be able to focus on his senior year, which explains the early commitment, but most who follow high school recruiting know that the phone calls and texts don’t stop until the pen is put to paper. If Florida can get him on campus over the next few months, it could end up adding an elite defensive back to the class of 2024.

Woodyard is ranked No. 29 overall on the 247Sports composite and No. 2 among safeties in the class. The On3 consensus has him a bit lower at No. 34 nationally, but he still holds the No. 2 spot among those at his position.
