Raiders elevate S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix from practice squad vs Chiefs

From the time Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft thru last season, he didn’t miss a game. He’d also started every game at safety the past five seasons. But these days he spends his time on the Raiders’ practice squad, seeing action in just one game this season.

This weekend will make Clinton-Dix’s second call-up from the practice squad. The veteran has been elevated to the active roster for the game on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders likely will be without three defensive backs with S Tyree Gillespie (hamstring) OUT and cornerbacks Amik Robertson (hip) and Keisean Nixon (ankle) both Doubtful. So, obviously they could use the depth.

Also OUT is LB Nick Kwiatkoski, prompting the Raiders to elevate LB Patrick Onwuasor as well.

Onwuasor was also only active for one game this season, and as it happens it was the same week three game vs Miami that Clinton-Dix was active. Both played exclusively on special teams in that game.

Jets have considered re-signing Patrick Onwuasor

The Jets are looking at bringing back linebacker Patrick Onwuasor despite him barely playing in 2020.

Patrick Onwuasor played just eight total snaps for the Jets in 2020, but New York is still interested in bringing him back for another season, according to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes.

Onwuasor spent most of last season on injured reserve after the Jets signed him to a one-year, $2 million deal last offseason. A non-contact knee injury in training camp sidelined the linebacker until mid-November and a hamstring injury in Week 11 knocked him out for the rest of the season. Onwuasor didn’t play a single defensive snap.

Bringing Onwuasor back would continue to add insurance to a linebacker group decimated by injuries last year. The Jets already added Jarrad Davis in free agency to shore up the position and Onwuasor would fortify the group behind presumed starter C.J. Mosley.

Onwuasor tallied 234 tackles, 9.5 sacks and five forced fumbles in four years with the Baltimore Ravens. He would be a solid fit in Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich’s defense considering his skills as an off-ball linebacker who can play in coverage.

Jets Free Agent Profile: What to do with LB Patrick Onwuasor?

Jets Wire takes a look at whether or not New York should bring back linebacker and impending free agent Patrick Onwuasor in 2021.

Before Joe Douglas can focus on who he plans on targeting in free agency come March, he’ll have a handful of in-house decisions to make.

The Jets have 25 players set to hit the open market this offseason. Some don’t figure to factor into New York’s plans for 2021, while others it’s safe to assume the Jets would like to keep around for a while. Either way, Douglas has a lot of work to do to put together a competitive roster for Robert Saleh.

Injuries ended Patrick Onwuasor’s 2020 season before it could even begin. Should his chance to bounce back next season come in the Big Apple? Let’s evaluate the situation in Jets Wire’s latest free agent profile.

Tua Tagovailoa doubtful for Dolphins vs. Jets, Ryan Fitzpatrick likely to start

The Dolphins are likely to be without Tua Tagovailoa against the Jets in Week 12.

The Dolphins will likely be without Tua Tagovailoa when they travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the Jets on Sunday afternoon.

Tagovailoa has been downgraded to doubtful for Miami’s Week 12 matchup after injuring his left thumb in practice on Wednesday, per NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo. With Tagovailoa unlikely to play, Ryan Fitzpatrick is set to start for the first time since the Dolphins defeated New York, 21-0, in Week 6. Fitzpatrick shined in that game, throwing for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jets also made a pair of injury-related moves on Saturday, adding Jimmy Murray to the active roster and placing Patrick Onwuasor on injured reserve. New York is dealing with quite a few injuries along its offensive line, as Chuma Edoga (ankle) and George Fant (knee/ankle) are doubtful for Sunday’s game. Connor McDermott is expected to start at right tackle.

Murray has jumped back and forth between the Jets’ practice squad and active roster in 2020, appearing on New York’s gameday roster five times. However, Murray has yet to play in a game for the Jets this season.

Onwuasor was activated from injured reserve on Nov. 18 after suffering a non-contact knee injury in training camp. The veteran linebacker played only eight special teams snaps against the Chargers last weekend before injuring his hamstring.

Jets injury report: George Fant, La’Mical Perine suffered sprains vs. Chargers

George Fant went down with a knee and ankle sprain in Sunday’s loss to Chargers.

George Fant took blows to two parts of his lower body in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers.

Fant suffered a knee and ankle sprain that will cause him to be out for a bit. Adam Gase said they’ll see how his injuries play out this week and in the coming weeks.

Fant’s backup, Chuma Edoga, has a low-ankle sprain that will cause him to miss some time as well. Connor McDermott will likely have to slide over to the right side in order to take the places of Fant and Edoga.

As for La’Mical Perine, he went down with a high-ankle sprain. He’ll likely be out for a few weeks. Patrick Onwuasor suffered a hamstring injury in his first game as a Jet and is still being evaluated.

Sam Darnold may be able to practice on Wednesday as the Jets prepare to take on the Dolphins. Gase said it’s a pain tolerance issue for Darnold at this point in his recovery. He just isn’t sure if Darnold can get back up after taking a hit, which is why he is hesitant to allow him to practice.

In other news, the Jets released Mike White and activated Ross Travis off the Reserve/COVID-19 list and returned him to the practice squad.

Jets injury report: Jabari Zuniga activated, Jamison Crowder misses practice

The Jets activated DE Jabari Zuniga and designated LB Patrick Onwuasor to return from injured reserve.

The Jets got a bit healthier this week.

New York made several roster moves ahead of its Week 8 matchup with the Chiefs, including bringing back a few injured players. New York activated rookie defensive end Jabari Zuniga, designated linebacker Patrick Onwuasor to return to practice and brought receiver Lawrence Cage back to the practice squad. Zuniga and Onwuasor haven’t played this season after sustaining injuries in training camp and being placed on injured reserve on Sept. 7.

Zuniga could make his Jets debut as early as this week against the Chiefs. The third-round rookie would be a welcome addition to the Jets defensive front-seven after Gang Green lost lineman Kyle Phillips to an ankle injury. Phillips was placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

The Jets have 21 days to activate Onwuasor after designating him to return following a knee injury he suffered in training camp. The inside linebacker would likely backup Neville Hewitt or Avery Williamson after signing with the Jets this offseason. Onwuasor tallied 48 tackles, five tackles for a loss, three sacks and six quarterback hits for the Ravens in 2019.

Cager returns to the practice squad after suffering a knee injury in Week 4 against the Broncos. He hasn’t played since but could be called up again if the Jets need more receiver help in the coming weeks. Cager, a 2020 undrafted free agent, caught two passes for 35 yards in his first NFL start after being called up from the practice squad early this season.

The Jets released quarterback David Fales from the practice squad to make room for Cager. Mike White will remain on the practice squad as the Jets third quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Joe Flacco.

As for the injury report at practice, WR Jamison Crowder (groin) didn’t participate but could Thursday. S Bradley McDougald (shoulder) is being evaluated and is not expected to practice this week. WR Breshad Perriman is still in concussion protocol. K Sam Ficken (groin) could return to practice this week.

Darnold (shoulder) was limited for precautionary measures.

Jets add LB Paul Worrilow to practice squad

The Jets announced that they would be signing free agent linebacker Paul Worrilow to their practice squad following his visit Tuesday.

The Jets have signed free agent linebacker Paul Worrilow to the team’s practice squad.

New York announced the move just a day after Worrilow came in for an official visit. Worrilow’s addition comes after New York placed Blake Cashman (groin) on injured reserve. The Jets are thin at inside linebacker with Patrick Onwuasor (knee) already on IR and Avery Williamson (hamstring) having been inactive for Week 1.

Right now, Neville Hewitt and Harvey Langi are the only two healthy inside linebackers on New York’s active roster.

Worrilow joins LB Alec Ogletree on the practice squad, who Gang Green elected to protect as part of the league’s new practice squad rules. These revised rules allow teams to protect up to four players by Tuesday of each week from being signed by another team.

Worrilow originally signed with the Jets last November, playing in four games without recording a tackle.

Worrilow started his NFL career in Atlanta, signing with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware. He then played one season in Detroit before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. Worrilow tore his ACL on the first day of OTAs and missed the entire season. He bounced between the Eagles and Ravens in 2019 before announcing his retirement.

Joe Douglas was able to coax Worrilow out of retirement last season with the Jets in dire need of inside linebacker depth. The Jets general manager has yet again brought back Worrilow with his unit in shambles.

In 72 career games, Worrilow has recorded 415 total tackles, four sacks, 11 passes defended and two interceptions.

Jets LB Blake Cashman doubtful to return vs. Bills

Blake Cashman is doubtful to return to Sunday’s game against the Bills with a groin injury.

And then there were two healthy inside linebackers.

Jets sophomore Blake Cashman went down early in the first quarter in the team’s opener against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets listed Cashman as doubtful to return with a groin injury.

Harvey Langi will take Cashman’s spot at inside linebacker alongside fellow starter Neville Hewitt.

The Jets came into Sunday’s game with only three healthy inside linebackers. Avery Williamson was held out of Sunday’s contest with a hamstring injury that he suffered in practice this past week.

Meanwhile, Patrick Onwuasor is out for at least a month after he suffered a knee injury. C.J. Mosley opted out of the 2020 season because of COVID-19 concerns.

Jets vs. Bills inactives: Denzel Mims, Avery Williamson officially out for Week 1

Denzel Mims and Avery Williamson are among the inactive for the Jets’ season opener against the Bills.

The Jets are officially without two impact starters for their season opener against the Bills.

Denzel Mims and Avery Williamson are both inactive after being ruled out on Friday. After missing a chunk of training camp because of a hamstring injury, Mims hurt his good hamstring on Thursday and missed practice on Friday. According to Adam Gase, Mims could be a candidate for short-term injured reserve, but it remains to be seen if that is the direction New York opts to go.

Williamson was set to return from a torn ACL suffered in the 2019 preseason on Sunday, but he will have to wait at least another week to get back on the field. With Williamson and Patrick Onwuasor (injured reserve) sidelined, Blake Cashman and Neville Hewitt will start at inside linebacker. Harvey Langi, who primarily plays outside linebacker, will serve as a backup.

Joe Flacco (neck) and running back La’Mical Perine (ankle) are also out for the Jets. New York signed Mike White to serve as Sam Darnold’s back up against Buffalo and promoted Josh Adams from the practice squad to take Perine’s place. White has no regular season experience, while Adams rushed eight times for only 12 yards with the Jets in 2019.

Tarell Basham (ankle), Jamison Crowder (hamstring), Alex Lewis (shoulder), Marcus Maye (calf/ankle), Breshad Perriman (knee) and Nathan Shepherd are all active. Lewis and Maye were questionable leading up to Sunday, but will suit up for New York. Wide receiver Josh Malone is also up from the practice squad.

As for the Bills, they are without starting cornerback Josh Norman, who landed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury on Saturday. Defensive tackle Vernon Butler (hamstring) is inactive, as is rookie defensive end A.J. Epenesa.
