48 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 48 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 48 jersey number

Another week is in the rearview, and the New England Patriots are now officially 48 days from the start of their 2023 regular season opener.

So we’re continuing our ongoing countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn a No. 48 jersey.

The number currently belongs to rising linebacker Jahlani Tavai, who started to emerge as a real difference-maker for the team last season. That effort earned the former second-round draft pick a two-year contract extension last year.

Former Patriots linebacker Harvey Langi wore No. 48 before Tavai took up the mantle in 2021. There have been a total of 14 players that have ever worn the number throughout franchise history.

52 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 52 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 52 jersey number

The New England Patriots are officially 52 days away from opening their 2023 regular season schedule at home against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles. So we’re celebrating the upcoming season with our ongoing countdown series that names every Patriots player that has ever worn a No. 52 jersey.

There have been multiple linebackers throughout franchise history that have cemented their legacy when wearing the number. Players such as Ted Johnson and Johnny Rembert even made All-Decade teams.

The most recent player to wear the number was former Patriots linebacker Harvey Langi. Rookie offensive lineman Jake Andrews also wore it during the spring practices.

Week 17 snap counts vs 49ers: Raiders struggle to find pass rush without Chandler Jones

Raiders struggle to find pass rush vs 49ers without Chandler Jones

For all the grief Chandler Jones got much of this season for his lack of sacks, it was pretty clear the alternative was much worse. Sunday we got a taste of what that looks like and it wasn’t pretty.

Jones was placed on injured reserve last week and Clelin Ferrell came in to replace him, playing nearly every snap (97%). Despite his extended game time, the former fourth overall pick failed to do much to impact the game in terms of pressure on the quarterback, putting up just one QB hit and no sacks.

The lack of pressure from the left side seemed to reverberate across the line. even Maxx Crosby seemed neutralized and the Raiders got no QB hits from the interior line whatsoever.

The closest the Raiders came to getting a sack came on a blitz by newly signed Harvey Langi, who saw 45 defensive snaps (67%) because of the injuries to Denzel Perryman and Divine Deablo. Langi looked like he had Brock Purdy dead to rights, but then whiffed on the sack. I doubt Perryman misses that opportunity.

2 Broncos players elevated for Sunday; 1 player fined by NFL

The Broncos promoted OL Quinn Bailey to the 53-man roster and elevated OL Netane Muti and LB Harvey Langi to the game-day roster.

The Denver Broncos made several practice squad moves ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.

First, the Broncos promoted offensive lineman Quinn Bailey from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Denver then elevated fellow offensive lineman Netane Muti and inside linebacker Harvey Langi to the game-day roster from the practice squad.

Bailey is now on the active roster while Muti and Langi are set to revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Bailey and Muti can provide more depth on the offensive line this week if guard Dalton Risner (shoulder/back) is not cleared to play. Risner is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.

Elsewhere on the injury front, the Broncos announced Saturday that defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike has been added to the injury report due to an illness. Uwazurike is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

Broncos buzz: Denver linebacker Alex Singleton was fined $6,194 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Baltimore Ravens, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Singleton totaled 16 tackles in Baltimore.

Broncos made several roster moves before Ravens game

The Broncos made a few roster moves before the Ravens game, including placing KJ Hamler on injured reserve.

The Denver Broncos made four roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Here’s a quick look at the team’s transactions.

Broncos add linebacker depth to practice squad

ICYMI — with Josey Jewell (knee) sidelined, the Broncos signed veteran LB Harvey Langi to the practice squad.

After losing starter Josey Jewell to a knee injury, the Denver Broncos added inside linebacker depth to the practice squad on Monday.

Denver signed Harvey Langi, a sixth-year defender who has spent time with the New England Patriots and New York Jets. Langi (6-2, 250 pounds) joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2017.

After playing in just one game as a rookie in New England, Langi spent two years with the New York Jets, playing in 30 games from 2019-2020.

Langi then returned to the Patriots in 2021. He played in seven games last year and two games this season before being released last month.

Langi (30) has totaled 80 tackles, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery in 40 career games (10 starts). He will likely be a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster over the next three weeks.

To make room for Langi on the practice squad, the Broncos released tight end Dominique Dafney.

Jonas Griffith and Alex Singleton are expected to start at inside linebacker with Justin Strnad and Langi providing depth behind them.

Patriots release veteran LB Harvey Langi

Patriots have released Harvey Langi

Now we know what the corresponding move is to the New England Patriots signing Jamie Collins on Monday. Per team reporter Evan Lazar, the Patriots have released veteran linebacker Harvey Langi from the practice squad.

So the team is essentially moving on from Langi to make room for Collins, who is expected to be elevated and contribute to the main roster at some point.

There’s always a chance Langi could be brought back. The 30-year-old linebacker has special teams value, along with the ability to work in as an emergency option for the defense.

But the Patriots are clearly looking for playmakers up front after getting gashed on the ground in back-to-back games. Good things seem to happen whenever the team turns to Collins, and coach Bill Belichick is banking on history repeating itself with this move as well.

Patriots elevate Harvey Langi to main roster for Week 3 game against Ravens

Patriots linebacker Harvey Langi is being elevated to the active roster

Harvey Langi, the versatile veteran linebacker for the New England Patriots, is being promoted to the active roster for the team heading into Sunday’s clash with the Baltimore Ravens.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported the news on Saturday as the team prepares for their third game of the season.

Langi gives coach Bill Belichick a bit of a Swiss army knife option on the field. Not only can he fill in at the linebacker position if the injury bug bites on game night, but he can also contribute on special teams.

So it was a no-brainer move for Belichick, who will always choose versatility when making these decisions.

The Patriots are 2.5-point underdogs going into their home opener against a Ravens team that suffered a fourth-quarter collapse in a Week 2 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

It’s also a Ravens team that’ll be without their starting left tackle, Ronnie Stanley, for this matchup. Langi will have an opportunity to contribute and help the Patriots improve their record to 2-1.

Many familiar faces return to practice after initially being cut by Patriots

Multiple preseason fan favorites were back at practice on Wednesday.

There were plenty of familiar faces back at practice after initially being cut by the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

Like the rest of the league, the Patriots went through the tough process of trimming their rosters down to 53 players. On Wednesday, many of the players on the cut list went on waivers with the chance of being claimed by another team.

The Patriots were fortunate that tight end Devin Asiasi was their only former player that got claimed on waivers. So that paved the way for a slew of fan favorites to return, including Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Tre Nixon, J.J. Taylor and LaBryan Ray.

Even veteran cornerback Terrance Mitchell was spotted at practice.

There was also a reported “mystery lineman” wearing a No. 68 jersey. Could it be Drew Desjarlais?

The Patriots will lean on some of their practice squad talent to fill roles at certain points throughout the season for a team that currently has more questions than answers.

At the very least, there are several players within the group that showed they were up for the challenge during the preseason slate.

Veterans Terrance Mitchell and Harvey Langi being released by Patriots

Mitchell and Langi have both been informed of their release by the Patriots.

The New England Patriots are releasing veteran cornerback Terrance Mitchell and linebacker Harvey Langi by Tuesday’s roster cut deadline, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Mitchell’s release comes as a bit of a surprise considering there’s a lot of youth in the defensive backfield for the Patriots. The veteran journeyman had experience on his side, along with a head coach that typically prioritizes experience over youth.

But coach Bill Belichick must really be impressed by what he’s seen from rookies Jack Jones and Marcus Jones. Both players have had a really strong training camp, including some breakout preseason performances.

They flashed enough to push Mitchell off the roster.

The 30-year-old cornerback has bounced around eight different teams in total, including multiple stops at the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. He started 13 games for the Texans last season and had 10 pass break-ups and one interception.

Meanwhile, Langi has had a hard time standing out in a deep linebacking corps. The Patriots are aiming to get younger and more athletic at the position, and they didn’t view the 29-year-old as someone with the best chance of helping them in that regard.
