Which tier did ESPN put Ohio State’s quarterback situation in?

Do you agree? #GoBucks

It’s the biggest question surrounding the [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] program as the season inches to kickoff: Who will be the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback?

The spring showcased the two front runners, Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. Only McCord played in the Spring Game, as Brown was nursing an injury in hopes he is ready to continue the battle in fall camp.

ESPN’s eyes were recently on all quarterbacks across the nation and it put teams’ situations into tiers (subscription required). David Hale ultimately selected the Buckeyes’ situation into tier 3, the “never question the system.”

As he goes over the battle, Hale notes that since 2012, “Ohio State has had a QB1 with a Total QBR better than 70 in every season, and one with a Total QBR better than 80 in all but three seasons.”

Although Hale does have the Buckeyes in that tier, a Big Ten coach told him that “they’ve had really talented quarterbacks,” so it might not just be about the system.

In my eyes, it’s a combination of both. It’s about the talent that Ohio State has amassed while recruiting at an extremely high level. It’s also about the system and offense that head coach Ryan Day runs. With those two factors, it’s hard to believe that whoever becomes the starter, won’t have a great season for the Buckeyes.

BOOM! Ohio State gets a commitment from transfer SEC defensive tackle

The rumors were true and finish with a BOOM! #GoBucks

The Ole Miss to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] transfer pipeline this offseason has been flowing.

During the initial transfer period, the Buckeyes landed cornerback Davison Igbinosun, who will play an integral role this fall.

Today, another former member of the Rebels is following Igbinosun, defensive tackle [autotag]Tywone Malone[/autotag]. Earlier today the buzz was that the 6-foot, 4-inch, 305-pound defensive lineman was trending to Columbus. Turns out those rumors were true.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

What remains to be known is if Malone will play baseball for the Buckeyes, as he did for the Rebels. He only played in a few games over the last two years but showed big-time power. Three of his five hits went over the fence.

Like on the diamond, Malone didn’t see the field much for the Rebels in two seasons registering just 13 tackles and 2 sacks. He was a top prospect coming out of high school, the Buckeyes offered him then as well.

Malone now lands in Columbus with the expectation that he will add some depth to the defensive tackle unit. [autotag]Mike Hall Jr[/autotag]., [autotag]Ty Hamilton[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyleik Williams[/autotag] all should be contributors this fall barring injuries. You can now add Malone to that list as the Buckeyes just got a bit deeper.

Expectations are high for Ohio State defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau as he is on this watch list

Not just one Buckeye made this watch list #GoBucks

There needs to be another [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] spot at the table with linebacker Tommy Eichenberg at the [autotag]Lott Impact Trophy[/autotag] watch list.

Buckeye defensive end [autotag]J.T. Tuimoloau[/autotag] joined his linebacker teammate being named to the award given out for the most impactful defensive player in college football.

The rising junior broke out on the national scene against Penn State as Tuimoloau had an epic game. Two interceptions, one for a score, two sacks, a forced fumble and recovery, with six total tackles. It was a dominating performance, that helped the Buckeyes avoid an upset on the road in Happy Valley.

Although Tuimoloau couldn’t keep up with that game’s wild stat line, who could, there are many that expect him to blow up this fall. There are plenty of mock 2024 NFL drafts that have him being selected in the first round. If he lives up to those expectations, he very well could be a finalist for the Lott Impact Trophy.

The hype train is beginning for Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg

All aboard! #GoBucks

It’s been a pretty good last few days for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] linebacker [autotag]Tommy Eichenberg[/autotag].

Not only did the second-team All-American earn his real estate degree over the weekend, but also on Monday Eichenberg was named to the [autotag]Lott Impact Trophy[/autotag] watch list.

A finalist for the award last year, he was named their player of the week in back-to-back weeks for his performances against Penn State and Iowa. The captain racked up 120 tackles with 2.5 sacks last year and chipped in an interception as well.

Eichenberg enters his final season with an opportunity to be one of the best linebackers in the country along with the potential to be an early selection in the NFL draft.

Watch: Find out why Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud felt disrespected early in his career

Very interesting comments by Stroud #GoBucks

We all know the hard work paid off for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] quarterback [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] by being selected by the Houston Texans with the No. 2 pick of the NFL draft.

What many of us didn’t know was Stroud felt some disrespect from the coaching staff during his tenure with the Buckeyes. In an interview with the “Beltway Boyz,” a podcast dedicated to Houston sports, the new Texan quarterback explained an issue he had with his Ohio State experience.

We all know the story about Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers enrolling a year early to start his collegiate career in Columbus, but what we didn’t know was how Stroud felt about the situation. He explained the coaches didn’t tell him about Ewers until the day he arrived on campus and the disrespect that Stroud felt about the move.

Watch below as Stroud explains his side of the situation after everything worked out in his favor.

Former Ohio State offensive lineman Ben Christman finds his new home in the SEC

Christman is heading a bit South to continue his career #GoBucks

When Ohio State signed offensive lineman [autotag]Ben Christman[/autotag] in the 2021 recruiting cycle, many expected him to contend for a starting spot early in his career.

As the seventh-ranked interior lineman and 124th overall player according to the 247Sports composite, expectations were high for the Ohioan. Unfortunately, Christman couldn’t crack the lineup in Columbus and decided late last month to enter the portal.

It didn’t take him that long to find a new home in Lexington, Kentucky. The 6-foot, 6-inch and 300-pound lineman will suit up for the Kentucky Wildcats this fall. You’d have to expect he is in line for a starting position or at least a good amount of playing time.

The Buckeyes return both starting guards, [autotag]Donovan Jackson[/autotag] and [autotag]Matthew Jones[/autotag], so for at least this coming season, playing time would have been difficult for Christman. We wish Ben the best with Big Blue.

Twitter reacts to Ohio State offensive tackle Dawand Jones selected by Cleveland

Big Thanos stays in Ohio #GoBucks

In a bit of a surprise, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offensive tackle [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag] was not selected during the first two days of the NFL draft.

That changed quickly on the draft’s final day. Big Thanos was selected by the Cleveland Browns and will continue his playing days in Ohio. The Indiana native was a second-team All-Big Ten performer the past two seasons. After opting to leave early for the draft, he was expected to go much earlier than the 111th pick.

There were plenty of thoughts on Jones getting selected by the Browns and here are some of the best twitter reactions to the pick.

Twitter reaction to Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud being selected by the Texans

What a moment for C.J.

After a bunch of smoke surrounding Ohio State quarterback [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] leading up to the NFL draft, he was still one of the top selections of the day.

Stroud would be selected second overall by the Houston Texans, who would also make a move up for the top defensive player one pick later.

The series of moves for the Texans set them up with a fantastic young core and a player, Stroud, who has the ability to lead them for a long time.

It wasn’t surprising that Stroud went early, so some of the reactions are pretty calm, but here are some of the best reactions to the Houston Texans selecting C.J. Stroud.

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Ohio State’s spring game

Plenty to think about after the Scarlet and Gray game. What sticks out in your mind the most? #GoBucks

If you are like me, you’re going to miss updates on [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football for the next four months. Yesterday’s spring game was football, even thought it wasn’t really football.

It is the last glimpse of the Buckeyes we will get until camps starts in late summer, so many of us will be thinking about what transpired during the Scarlet and Gray game.

After having a day to think about it, there were some aspects that have continued to stick out in my mind. Here are some thoughts still brewing in my head after yesterday’s glorified scrimmage.

Thoughts following Ohio State’s Scarlet and Gray spring game

Plenty of takeaways from Ohio State’s spring game. What stood out to you the most? #GoBucks

The annual Scarlet and Gray game went to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s defense, 40-31. The modified scoring system showed the defense has made strides while the offense still has plenty of work to do.

It was only a spring game, but head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] must like the progress of some aspects of his football team. Others not nearly as much.

It is hard to make judgements on what we saw Saturday, even though there were times when it looked like real football, I’ll try to do that. Here are my thoughts following the conclusion of Ohio State’s spring practices ending with the LiFEsports Spring Game.
