Alabama trending toward landing commitments from two promising 2023 recuits

Alabama is in a good position to land two promising recruits from the 2023 recruiting class.

Alabama has been hot on the recruiting trail lately with recent commitments from Justice Haynes, Dylan Lonergan, Malik Benson and Tony Mitchell. The coaching staff was also able to flip RyQueze McElderry from Georgia.

On Sunday, after Alabama landed running back Justice Haynes, cornerback Tony Mitchell tweeted out, “we not done.” If that gives any indication, it means that the coaching staff isn’t finished recruiting elite prospects from across the country.

Two of the elite prospects that are being heavily recruited by the Tide are Cormani McClain and Olaus Alinen. Two of which received On3 RPM predictions in favor of Alabama over the past few days.

Alinen is an interesting recruit in the 2023 class. After being born in Finland, he moved to the United States to pursue opportunities in sports. Originally, he came to the states to play basketball. However, he quickly developed a passion for football. At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Alinen is regarded as the No. 17 overall offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

On Sunday, Joseph Hastings of BamaOn3 put in a prediction for Alinen to commit to Alabama. Along with Hastings, On3’s Jeremy Johnson also put in a prediction in favor of the Tide on Monday evening. Several other recruiting experts have placed predictions for him to commit to Miami. It seems to be a two-way race at this time. Alinen is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 22.

Another intriguing recruit is Florida native Cormani McClain. On Monday afternoon, On3’s director of recruiting Chad Simmons put in a prediction that the cornerback would land at Alabama. There is no timetable for when his decision will be. As of right now, it appears to be a three-team race to land him. The other two teams vying to land his commitment are Florida and Miami.

He is rated as the No. 1 overall cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. If Alabama can land McClain, it could be the best secondary class that [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] has ever signed. The Tide have already landed five-star(s) Jahlil Hurley and Tony Mitchell.

It will be interesting to see how each of their recruitments unfold. In all likelihood, Alabama will pursue the two of them up until national signing day.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama football recruiting and the recruitment of these two individuals as they look to make their decisions.

Alabama Morning Drive: Tide to take center stage at SEC media days

Alabama will take center stage at the 2022 SEC media days on Tuesday.

Good morning, Tide fans! Welcome to our Tuesday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope each of you has had a great start to the work week as we get things rolling in Atlanta at the 2022 SEC media days.

Speaking of media days, Tuesday is Alabama’s turn at the podium. Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] will address the media from around 8:05-8:35 a.m. CT. [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag], and [autotag]Jordan Battle[/autotag] will each take turns at the podium between 9:00 and 9:20 a.m. The SEC Network will televise media days in its entirety.

There are bound to be plenty of questions directed at coach Saban regarding NIL and conference realignment and as is always the case, the seven-time national championship-winning coach will give a response that will have pundits talking until the season kicks off.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories involving the Tide this morning.

2023 OL Olaus Alinen announces top schools, Alabama firmly in the mix

2023 offensive tackle Olaus Alinen listed Alabama in his top five on Friday. He will announce his commitment on July 22.

Over the years, one of Alabama’s strongest position groups has certainly been the offensive tackle. Players like Evan Neal, Cam Robinson, Jedrick Wills and Alex Leatherwood were highly-ranked prospects and became stars for the Crimson Tide. Now, the coaching staff is looking for players of that caliber to join the program and have an immediate impact.

Among the offensive linemen being recruited, offensive tackle Olaus Alinen could be the most coveted.

The Finland native released his top-five schools on Friday. Among those listed were Ohio State, Miami, Georgia, Alabama and Oregon. He also announced that he would be making his commitment public on July 22. Alinen has made two trips to Alabama with his family. It seems to be a two-team race up to this point between Miami and Alabama, but things could change.

Here is what Alinen had to say when Hayes Fawcett asked him about the Tide:

“I’ve had a long relationship with Alabama,” Alinen said. “They have always been one of my top schools and Coach Saban and Coach Wolford are super proven. It is the standard of college football!”

The Tide appeared to be the leader up until he recently received three crystal balls in favor of Miami. The Hurricanes have already landed some of Alabama’s top targets in Francis Mauigoa, Riley Williams, Jayden Wayne and Raul Aguirre. Even if he chooses Miami, Alabama will likely stay involved in his recruitment until signing day.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama football and Crimson Tide recruiting.

Four-star offensive lineman Olaus Alinen sets commitment date

Olaus Alinen will announce his commitment on Friday, July 22.

The Ohio State football team will find out where four-star offensive lineman Olaus Alinen will land soon. Alinen has set a commitment date for July 22 he announced on his personal Twitter account.

We told you back in April that the highly coveted tackle had trimmed his list to four schools which included the Buckeyes as well as AlabamaGeorgia, and the Miami Hurricanes. It seems that Oregon has made some movement and wiggled its way into Alinen’s shortlist.

Alinen currently attends The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut, but is originally from the country of Finland. The 6-6 prospect is the No. 15 rated offensive tackle in the 2023 class according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The Crimson Tide was seen as the favorite back in spring, but now Miami may have the lead. On3 has given the Hurricanes an 80 percent chance to land the coveted lineman.

Still, Ohio State was said to have made a very good impression on Alinen and his family when he took his official visit to Columbus on June 24. We’ll find out next Friday if it was enough to sway the young man to the scarlet and gray.

Four-star offensive tackle Olaus Alinen sets commitment date

Four-star offensive lineman recruit Olaus Alinen has set his commitment date, with the Ducks in the mix.

It may be a semi-long shot, but Oregon is hoping it can stun the recruiting world on July 22. That’s the date four-star recruit offensive tackle Olaus Alinen has set to announce where he will be playing college football in 2023 and beyond.

Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 325 pounds, Alinen is expected to choose either Miami or Georgia, but going long distance to play football is definitely in the realm of possibilities for him.

Alinen was born in Finland, but moved to Connecticut to play at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT. He is rated by all of the recruiting sites as one of the top offensive tackles in the Class of 2023.

Given the fact Oregon coach Dan Lanning has a good track record of securing commitments once he gets the recruits on campus, the Ducks have more than a puncher’s chance of getting Olinen. He visited Oregon on June 21 and told Rivals that Coach Adrien Klemm would be the difference if he chooses Oregon.

Coach Klemm is probably the coolest coach I’ve talked to. He’s a baller. He won three Super Bowls with the Patriots playing offensive line and he’s a little different than some of the other guys.

Miami does have the edge, however, since Mario Cristobal has recruited Alinen since 2020 and that the coach, being a former offensive lineman himself, can relate to him and that the O-line is a priority for the Hurricanes. But we’ll all find out July 22.

Four-star offensive lineman puts Ohio State in final list of four

Ohio State hopes to add a big-time talent from the country of Finland.

The Ohio State football team got some good news on April Fools Day, but this was no joke. Four-star offensive tackle, Olaus Alinen has put Ohio State as a finalist to land his services.

Alinen currently attends The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut but is originally from the country of Finland. The 6-6 prospect is the No. 14 rated offensive tackle in the 2023 class according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Other schools joining the Buckeyes on Alinen’s shortlist include Alabama, Georgia, and the Miami Hurricanes.

As of now, the Crimson Tide seems to be the heavy favorite to land Alinen but the prospect spoke favorably of the Buckeyes to Chad Simmons of On3.

Ohio State has tradition, they know how to win championships, and they also develop players. The environment stood out to me at Ohio State. I fit in with the guys there, I was there in the meetings, and I liked the people. Ohio State is just an overall great platform.

Alinen is scheduled to visit Columbus this summer on June 23. There’s still a lot of time for the Buckeyes to win the Finland native over.
