Jets injury report: Sam Darnold returns to practice on limited basis

Sam Darnold will be returning to practice on a limited basis Wednesday and while the Jets are optimistic, they’re taking it day-to-day.

The Jets have some thanks to give this week.

Sam Darnold (shoulder) will officially be limited at practice on Wednesday. Adam Gase expects Darnold to do “quite a bit,” per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. New York remains cautiously optimistic as it takes a day-to-day approach with its starting quarterback.

Gase added that things appear to be trending in the right direction for Darnold, but wouldn’t go any further than that. Joe Flacco will start his third consecutive game if Darnold can’t go.

As for George Fant, the starting right tackle won’t practice, as he’s dealing with knee and ankle injuries.

In addition to Darnold, Chris Herndon (back), Breshad Perriman (shoulder), Blake Cashman (hamstring) and Chuma Edoga (ankle) will all be limited during Wednesday’s practice.

Jets injury report: Mekhi Becton had trouble breathing with chest injury

Adam Gase provided injury updates on Mekhi Becton, Sam Darnold and Brian Poole on Tuesday, following New York’s 30-27 loss on Monday night.

Mekhi Becton (chest) was forced to leave Monday night’s game early and was ultimately ruled out. Adam Gase announced on Tuesday that Becton’s chest injury caused him to have trouble breathing.

Gase said the Jets did everything they could to make sure Becton was good, per The Athletic’s Connor Hughes. After the fiasco with Becton’s shoulder injury earlier in the season, the Jets elected to not put him back in the game.

Becton’s injury is not muscle-related, nor is it related to his heart or lungs. Gase is hopeful that he can play in New York’s next game following its bye in Week 10.

As for Sam Darnold, Gase believes that his starting quarterback is feeling better. Darnold reaggravated his throwing shoulder, which he suffered a sprained AC joint in, against Kansas City. He still hasn’t figured out a throwing regimen and has been consulting with outside doctors, making sure he gets as many opinions on his shoulder as he hopes to heal so he can “finish the season strong,” Darnold said, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Right now, he’s taking it day-to-day, but added that his shoulder gets better every day.

Lastly, Brian Poole, who was also ruled out of Monday night’s game after playing just eight snaps, has no structural damage in his knee. Gase is optimistic about Poole’s timely return.

Jets injury report: Who will kick with Sam Ficken doubtful?

In the Jets’ final injury report of the week, both Sam Ficken and Alex Lewis are listed as doubtful with five other players questionable.

The Jets will get some fresh faces back but will also be down a couple of starters in Week 7 against the Bills.

In New York’s final injury report of the week, Sam Ficken (groin) and Alex Lewis (shoulder) are listed as doubtful. Ficken suffered a groin injury during practice this week, so the Jets will have to promote Sergio Castillo from the practice squad. Ficken has connected on nine of his 10 field goal attempts and has made all six of his extra-point attempts this season.

As for Lewis, he is considered week-to-week while dealing with the same shoulder injury that cost Sam Darnold the last two games. Josh Andrews will likely start in Lewis’ place.

Barring any setbacks, Darnold (shoulder) and Mekhi Becton (shoulder) are expected to play Sunday, They are officially listed as questionable. In Jamison Crowder’s case, his status is up in the air. New York’s starting slot receiver injured his groin during practice on Wednesday. He sat out Thursday and was limited on Friday. The Jets will have to see how Crowder feels pregame before making a decision one way or another.

George Fant (knee) and Chuma Edoga (calf) are listed as questionable. If Fant is active, he’ll shift over to right tackle after starting on the left side in place of Becton.

Jets injury report: Sam Darnold out for Week 6, Denzel Mims back at practice

As for Wednesday’s Jets injury updates, Adam Gase ruled out QB Sam Darnold for Week 6, while rookie WR Denzel Mims returned to practice.

As the Jets get ready to take on the Dolphins in Week 6, they will again be without their starting quarterback. On Wedneday, Adam Gase ruled out Sam Darnold (right shoulder) for Sunday’s game and named Joe Flacco the starter again.

On the other hand, Denzel Mims (hamstring) returned to practice. Gase was non-committal on whether the rookie wide receiver will come off injured reserve for Sunday. Still, Mims has been itching at getting back on the field and has an outside chance at playing vs. the Dolphins, according to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes.

Both of the Jets’ starters on the left side of the offensive line — Mekhi Becton and Alex Lewis — will not practice Wednesday, as both are dealing with shoulder injuries. Lewis will be limited going forward but should be good to go for Sunday. As for Becton, the Jets haven’t provided much of an update, but it was reported on CBS’s Broadcast in Week 5 that he was dealing with a capsule injury in his shoulder.

CB Bless Austin, WR Breshad Perriman and DL Quinnen Williams were all limited during practice.

The Jets designated Mims, CB Arthur Maulet (groin) and OL Cameron Clark (shoulder/knee) to return to practice; they will have 21 days to activate these three players from injured reserve. New York also signed DL Tanzel Smart and K/P Sergio Castillo to its practice squad and released WR Donte Moncrief from the practice squad.

Jets injury report: Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder miss Wednesday’s practice

New York Jets wide receivers Breshad Perriman and Jamison Crowder are among four Jets starters, who could miss Sunday’s game vs. the Colts.

The Jets could be without four starters for their Week 3 matchup against Indianapolis.

Adam Gase is not optimistic that WR Breshad Perriman (ankle) will return in Weeks 3 or 4, as he’s week-to-week after suffering a sprained ankle. Perriman did not practice Wednesday and neither did WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring), who still has a shot to play this Sunday. However, Crowder is still not running and Gase was non-committal regarding his status.

C Connor McGovern (hamstring) and CB Quincy Wilson (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, either. Wilson is still in concussion protocol and his status against his former team is up in the air.

WR Chris Hogan (ribs), OT Mekhi Becton (knee), RB Kalen Ballage (hamstring) and La’Mical Perine (ankle) were all limited. Hogan’s injury is the only new one, as he suffered a blow to his ribs in New York’s 31-13 Week 2 loss. The good news for Hogan is that nothing is broken and he should be on track to play in Indianapolis Sunday.

Jets injury report: Mekhi Becton limited, 49ers place Richard Sherman on IR

Jets OT Mehki Becton (knee) was among the team’s limited participants in Wednesday’s practice, while the 49ers put CB Richard Sherman on IR.

Another day, another injury for Gang Green.

Jets rookie OT Mekhi Becton (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday. He injured himself in the Jets’ 27-17 loss to the Bills Sunday but didn’t miss a snap. Adam Gase said that the Jets will be careful with him going forward.

Jamison Crowder (hamstring) popped up on the injury report following Wednesday’s practice. Gase did not mention Crowder before practice, which likely means that the veteran wideout suffered an injury to his hamstring this afternoon. QB Joe Flacco (neck), LB Frankie Luvu (neck) and LB Avery Williamson (hamstring) joined Crowder as limited participants. There’s a chance Williamson makes his 2020 debut this weekend after missing Sunday’s opener.

As for the remainder of New York’s injuries, RB Kalen Ballage (hamstring), TE Daniel Brown (hamstring), OT George Fant (shoulder) and OL Alex Lewis (shoulder) were all full participants Wednesday.

Despite the injury bug hitting the Jets again, they might be catching a few breaks this weekend. The 49ers placed CB Richard Sherman on injured reserve with a leg injury, while his potential replacement, Ahkello Witherspoon, suffered a concussion and is in protocol, according to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.

In addition, TE George Kittle (knee sprain) won’t practice this week, but San Francisco is ‘hopeful’ he will play Sunday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jets Injury Report: Marcus Maye, Denzel Mims suffer setbacks

Jets Injury Report 9/10/20.

After getting a somewhat clean bill of health on Wednesday, the Jets received some blows on Thursday’s injury report.

Safety Marcus Maye, who was already dealing with a calf injury, did not participate in Thursday’s practice with a new ankle injury. Although Maye had a fantastic training camp in which he stepped up into a new role, his status for Sunday’s game is now up in the air.

Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims, who was a full participant on Wednesday, was downgraded to limited. Mims’ hamstring injury is now listed plurally as “hamstrings.” Needless to say, this development jeopardizes Mims’ chances of making his debut on Sunday.

As for Avery Williamson, the veteran linebacker was held out of practice with a hamstring injury. The Jets added Alec Ogletree to their practice squad as Williamson deals with yet another injury.

Tarell Basham (ankle), Joe Flacco (neck) and Alex Lewis (shoulder) were also limited on Thursday. Flacco is not expected to be ready to go for Week 1 as he works his way back from offseason neck surgery, but both Basham and Lewis are expected to be ready to go for Sunday’s game.

Receivers Jamison Crowder (hamstring) and Breshad Perriman (knee) were both full participants on Thursday while running back Frank Gore enjoyed a veteran rest day.

Jets WR Jeff Smith done for the season

After just one appearance for the green and white, in a 42-21 loss to the Ravens, Smith’s season has come to and as well.

Jeff Smith was promoted to the Jets’ active roster last Monday, as the team was forced to send cornerback Kyron Brown to injured reserve. After just one appearance for the green and white, in a 42-21 loss to the Ravens, Smith’s season has come to and as well.

The undrafted rookie wide receiver suffered a high-ankle sprain in Thursday’s loss. The injury will sideline Smith for the rest of this season, ending his short tenure with Gang Green.

Smith finished his day with one catch for 12 yards on two targets.

New York has already had to send 16 players to its injured reserve list, so this addition may be routine by now. Still, the Jets are desperate for playmakers and stability on their 53-man roster.

Now, it will be someone else’s opportunity to step in and attempt to fill the void. At wide receiver, at least, the hope is that veteran Demaryius Thomas will be healthy in time for New York’s Week 16 matchup with Pittsburgh.

The Jets are currently 5-9 and seated third in the AFC East. With all the injuries this team has suffered, they’ll have to get creative in order to finish the season strong these final two weeks.

Santa becomes latest victim of Jets’ injury bug

The holiday spirit couldn’t stop Santa from escaping the Jets’ injury woes.

The Jets have been plagued with a horde of injuries this season, thinning them out at just about every position at one point or another.

The pain hasn’t stopped with the players, though. Even jolly Saint Nick seems to have been bitten by the injury bug that’s been buzzing around New York.

We know this because The Athletic’s Connor Hughes noticed an inflatable Santa Claus slumped over a trash can in the Jets’ locker room on Wednesday. After discovering a hole in the holiday decoration, Hughes couldn’t help but jokingly connect the scene to Gang Green’s injury woes.

The Jets have placed 15 players on injured reserve since August, including household names such as C.J. Mosely, Ryan Kalil, Quincy Enunwa and Avery Williamson.

The bad news doesn’t end there, either.

New York released an injury report on Dec. 4 that listed 13 players currently fighting ailments and other setbacks. That list included safety Jamal Adams, offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum and tight end Ryan Griffin.

Not that it would do them any good this season, but the Jets may want to ask for a clean bill of health this Christmas. They just shouldn’t count on the Santa in their locker room to be the one delivering the elusive gift.
