7 Seahawks players who could have bigger roles in 2024

That youth movement should accelerate under the next head coach, whoever that may be.

The Seattle Seahawks have one of the most-promising rosters around the NFL. Nearly half of the team’s players this season were either in their first or second year in the league and that youth movement should accelerate under the next head coach, whoever that may be. Thanks to two strong draft classes in a row, the kids look particularly alright – and should only continue to get better going forward.

Let’s take a look at seven different players who may see bigger roles in 2024.

2024 NFL mock draft: Seahawks hit 4 premium positions in 3-round projections

Seahawks 53-man roster tracker: Leonard Williams in, Cody Thompson out

Here’s the updated 53-man roster by jersey number going into tomorrow’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Seahawks are serious about making a deep postseason run this year. Just hours after their home win over the Browns, Seattle pulled off a trade that should help them get there. The front office has sent a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-rounder to the Giants in exchange for Leonard Williams, one of the top interior pass rushers in the league.

To make room for Wiliams, the Seahawks have waived wide receiver Cody Thompson. Our roster tracker is now updated (Oct. 31).

Seahawks updated depth chart + practice squad heading into Week 3

After so many changes now seems like a good team to revisit the depth chart.

The Seattle Seahawks made a flurry of roster and practice squad moves on Wednesday, reshaping their team as they prepare for their third game of the 2023 season at home against the Carolina Panthers.

To recap, rookie defensive end Mike Morris has been placed on injured reserve and head coach Pete Carroll says he’s likely out for the year. The team has also signed cornerback Artie Burns to the active roster, signed tight end Brady Russell off the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad and released second-year outside linebacker Tyreke Smith. These moves come on the heels of an also-active Week 2, which saw the Seahawks bring in four new offensive linemen following injuries to Charles Cross and Abe Lucas – who is also currently on the injured reserve list.

After so many changes now seems like a good team to revisit the depth chart. Here’s what each position looks like, including practice squad players.

While there’s still one more preseason game to play, the Seahawks are officially in regular season mode. Training camp is over and practice is just practice. 64 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 64 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 64 jersey number.

The New England Patriots are 64 days away from opening the season on September 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

So we’re continuing our ongoing countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has worn the No. 64 throughout franchise history.

The number is currently worn by second-year Patriots guard Andrew Stueber, who will face even more competition in training camp than he saw with the team a year ago. Things might be a bit thin for the Patriots at the tackle position, but they have a healthy supply of both veterans and rookies that could contribute at the guard position.

There have been 20 players that have worn the No. 69 in New England. It has mostly been a revolving door with few long-tenured players donning the jersey.

Here’s a list of every player for the Patriots that has worn the number (via Pro Football Reference):

68 days until Vikings season opener: Every player to wear No. 68

We take a look at everyone who was worn No. 68 for the Minnesota Vikings as we near the start of the regular season.

It’s the final countdown…

Well, sort of.

The Minnesota Vikings will kick off their 2023 regular season in 68 days at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10.

From now until then, we will take a trip down memory lane and count each day by revisiting the players that have worn that specific jersey number.

Kyle Hinton was the last player to wear the number, but the number is likely more popular for any combo of Mike Morris, Curtis Rouse, and Charles Goodrum.

Seahawks want fifth-round pick Mike Morris playing big

“You don’t have to worry about backing up from the table anymore, you keep the damn calories on, you hear me?’

The Seattle Seahawks’ fatal flaw last year was their inability to stop the run. If they have any hope of advancing past San Francisco and Philadelphia – the two best teams at running the football – vast improvement in this department is a necessity.

Seattle did sign defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones from Denver and brought back Jarran Reed in free agency, but critics of their 2023 NFL draft will say they did not address defensive line as well as they could have. The Seahawks waited mostly until Day 3 of the draft to start picking defensive linemen, such as as Mike Morris from Michigan.

Morris’ draft profile suggests he will be better suited at stopping the run than rushing the passer, which, quite frankly, is still very much a need for the Seahawks has they had difficulty setting the edge last year. But in order for this to happen, Seattle wants Morris playing big… in every sense of the word. From Seahawks.com:

“Schneider gets Michigan defensive end Mike Morris on the phone to tell him he’s coming to Seattle. ‘I’m ready to work my ass off,’ Morris tells Schneider. Hurtt gets on the phone and tells Morris, who moved around on the line at Michigan, that they see him as playing big in Seattle’s defense as a 3-technique end: ‘You don’t have to worry about backing up from the table anymore, you keep the damn calories on, you hear me?'”

Cool to see him in an NFL uniform!

Two Michigan football players were selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the April 2023 NFL draft.

Seattle selected both Olu Oluwatimi and Mike Morris in the fifth round of the draft, and both were chosen three picks apart.

The official Seattle Seahawks Twitter account tweeted out a group photo of all of their draft picks. All nine members are shown in their Seahawks’ uniform with the numbers they will be wearing this season. Morris is pictured wearing No. 94 and Oluwatimi is pictured wearing jersey No. 51.

You can see all of Seattle’s rookie draft picks below in their uniform.

A little later, the Seahawks tweeted out some videos of their draft picks working out. Seattle tweeted out a first-look video of Mike Morris doing a drill with the caption ‘Bring the force always’.

You can see the video below.

Morris started 16 games during his tenure in Ann Arbor, was a Second-Team All-American in 2022, and won the Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2022.

Olu Oluwatimi, a transfer from Virginia, won the Rimington Award and Outland Trophy in 2022. He was a consensus All-American and helped Michigan win the Joe Moore Award in his lone season with the Wolverines.

ESPN: Seahawks made 2 of top 5 picks in the 2023 NFL draft, 4 of top 100

Seattle managed to get the No. 1 spot on the list, two of the top five and four of 100.

The Seahawks arguably had a better 2023 NFL draft class than any team outside of Philadelphia. The team’s grades for their work during the draft have been overwhelmingly positive, as well as signing the undrafted free agents they picked up afterwards.

Acclaim for this draft class has been pouring in over the last two weeks and today we have even more to share. Yesterday, ESPN put out a ranking of the top 100 picks in the draft. Seattle managed to get the No. 1 spot on the list, two of the top five and four of 100.

Here’s who they are, where they ranked and what Matt Miller had to say about each of them. Stay for our own overall analysis at the end.
