Kevin Dyson to announce Titans’ picks on Day 2 of 2021 NFL draft

Dyson was one of the heroes of the “Music City Miracle.”

For Day 2 of the 2021 NFL draft, teams will be represented by either an active or former player of the team, each of whom will be tasked with announcing the selections for their squad in the second and third rounds.

Representing the Tennessee Titans will be none other than former receiver and one of the heroes of the legendary “Music City Miracle” play, wide receiver Kevin Dyson.

Former Titans safety Michael Griffin was originally scheduled to take the job, but had to cancel because of a scheduling conflict, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

The Titans have three picks on Day 2, including one in the second round at No. 53 overall, and then two in the third round at No. 85 and No. 100 overall.

Dyson is a former first-round pick of the Titans back in 1998. He spent five seasons with the team before moving on to play his final season in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers.

Dyson is having a pretty great week, as not only will be he part of this year’s draft, but he also recently became the principal at Centennial High School in Franklin, Tennessee.

The first night of the 2021 NFL draft begins on April 29, with Day 2 set to take place the following day.

NFL Draft: Two Longhorns go in first round of recent mock draft

In the latest mock from the Draft Network, two Longhorns were taking in the first round. So who was selected and how do they fit?

Even though the college football season is less than three weeks away from kicking off, we are in the thick of mock draft season. One of the better outlets, the Draft Network recently released their latest 2021 NFL mock draft. Drae Harris is projecting two Longhorns to be selected in the first 32 draft picks. That would mark the first time since 2007 when Aaron Ross and Michael Griffin were taken in the opening round.

What Drae Harris says about Samuel Cosmi

The Broncos needed to improve at both tackle positions. Garett Bolles has been largely inconsistent and was plagued with penalties last year—they refused to exercise the fifth-year option on his contract. Ironically, they didn’t address either of the tackle positions in the 2020 NFL Draft. Denver bets on the upside here with Cosmi. He has the athleticism and ideal length for the perimeter. Denver believes it has its franchise quarterback in Drew Lock. Protecting him will be critical so that he can distribute the football to all of their explosive weapons on offense.

What Drae Harris says about Caden Sterns

Philadelphia lost a leader both in the locker room and on the field in Malcolm Jenkins. Adding Sterns to the mix to replace him would give that defense and that secondary a boost. Sterns is a good athlete who is the latest in the long line of NFL Longhorns to play in the secondary. He has the versatility to play low or high and it will be interesting to see how Philadelphia uses him in sub-packages.

What Longhorns Wire says about the selections

The two selections of Samuel Cosmi and Caden Sterns are the most logical. Both Denver and Philadelphia have needs at those particular positions. The Broncos need to protect their young quarterback, who now has a plethora of weapons at his disposal. Cosmi would likely play left tackle at the next level and protecting your quarterback’s blind side is one of the most important jobs of any player.

For the Eagles, much like Harris stated the loss of Malcolm Jenkins will be felt in the secondary. Not only a leader on the field but an emotional leader. For the Longhorns, Caden Sterns is in that role. He would work his way into the role with the Eagles. Philadelphia needs to sure up the secondary, especially considering the Dallas Cowboys just added Sterns’ old foe in CeeDee Lamb.

Titans select different safety in BR’s 2007 NFL re-draft

Who would the Titans have taken in the 2007 NFL Draft if Michael Griffin was already off the board?

The Tennessee Titans selected safety Michael Griffin out of Texas with the No. 19 overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

But what would the team have done if Griffin was already off the board?

In a re-draft for the year written up by Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, he has the Titans taking former Florida safety Reggie Nelson in the same spot.

Here’s what Davenport had to say about the selection:

Reggie Nelson didn’t enjoy the sort of success early in his professional career that Griffin did. His three-year stint in Jacksonville was forgettable. But once he moved on to Cincinnati, he blossomed.”

Over a six-year tenure with the Bengals that saw him play both free and strong safety, Nelson made a Pro Bowl and intercepted 23 passes. Eight of those picks came in 2015 when he tied for the league lead and was named a second-team All-Pro.

It took Nelson awhile to hit his peak after being drafted No. 21 overall in 2007 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he was more than solid when he finally got there. His 832 career tackles, 38 interceptions and the two Pro Bowls he made tell the story there.

Griffin, who did have a great career in Nashville, totaled 813 tackles, 25 interceptions and was also selected to the Pro Bowl twice.

Ricky Williams: 5th overall to the New Orleans Saints

Brian Bahr /Allsport

In 1999 the New Orleans Saints and head coach Mike Ditka gave up their entire draft just to secure the rights for Ricky Williams. Williams went on to play for the Saints until 2001 when he had a career year for the Miami Dolphins in 2002. He earned his only Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors that season with 1,853 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Williams played for one other team before hanging up the cleats, the Baltimore Ravens in 2011. He finished his 11-year career with 10,009 yards rushing and 66 touchdowns. Adding another eight receiving. His career was never the same after retiring in 2004 and returning to the NFL in 2005.
