Michigan State center Matt Allen invited to minicamp with the New York Giants

Brian Allen just won a Super Bowl as the starting center for the Los Angeles Rams after grinding his way up from the practice squad. His brother, Michigan State football’s Matt Allen, will have an opportunity to forge his own path after receiving an invite to join the New York Giants rookie minicamp for a tryout.

Matt Allen started 30 total games for the Spartans, including 13 in his sixth and final season.

Michigan State football center Matt Allen to play in Hula Bowl Collegiate All-Star Game

Michigan State football center Matt Allen to play in Hula Bowl Collegiate All-Star Game

Injuries may have led to some inconsistencies down the stretch for Michigan State football’s offensive line unit, but make no mistake about it, this was one of the most productive units in college football this year and a major part of why Kenneth Walker III was in the Heisman conversation for much of the season.

A key part of that, of course, is veteran center Matt Allen. On Monday, Allen accepted an invitation to play in the Hula Bowl Collegiate All-Star Game as he looks to showcase his skills to NFL scouts.

They will be:

  • WR Jayden Reed

All three players had huge games last weekend against Youngstown State and their strong play was recognized by coach Mel Tucker. This is Henderson’s third straight week as a team captain. This will be Reed and Allen’s first time this season.

Five Michigan State football players make Senior Bowl watchlist

5 Spartans named to the senior bowl watchlist

The Senior Bowl is an annual event for graduating seniors to showcase their talents to NFL scouts, while subsequently getting coaching from NFL coaches. It is a semi big deal, and a way to get on teams radars in order to be drafted.

To play in the senior bowl you need to be selected by the senior bowl committee, which usually means having a good senior season.

In a preseason watchlist, five members of the Spartans team were recognized. QB Anthony Russo and offensive lineman AJ Arcuri, Matt Allen, Blake Bueter, and Kevin Jarvis were all named to the list.

The Big Ten’s top five centers heading into 2021

Do any #Buckeyes make the Big Ten’s top five centers heading into 2021?

The college football season — and with it, some Ohio State football — kicks off in less than a month, and we have been rolling through the best of the Big Ten at each position. We have already completed our list of top five quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive tackles and guards.

The Buckeyes will be breaking in a few new faces on the offensive line and that includes a new starter at the center spot to anchor things. In all likelihood, a familiar face will make the move there, but who and where will they rank?

We take a look at who are the best five centers in the Big Ten heading into the 2021 season.

Mel Tucker confirms Matt Allen is coming back for sixth year

Michigan State football just got back a big depth piece for the team next season. Head coach Mel Tucker confirmed in his weekly press conference today that redshirt senior, center Matt Allen will return for a sixth year.  Allen was injured much of the 2020 season and only played in two of the seven games.

With Allen’s injury last season, we saw the emergence of sophomore Nick Samac who was strong in the starting center role. But as noted in the tweet below, Tucker has said that Allen has become one of his favorite players so don’t be surprised if Matt Allen starts the first game of the 2021 season. It is also a possibility that Allen could change to a guard if Samac wins the starting center job.

Allen is the brother of well-known former Spartan center Brian Allen, who is currently on the Los Angeles Rams roster.

MSU Football vs. Michigan: senior MSU center Matt Allen not dressed, other inactives

There are some notable inactives in today’s match-up against Michigan for Michigan State.

[jwplayer AyZHPp3A]

By the time you are reading this, Michigan State and Michigan will have already kicked off. There are some notable Spartans in this game that are not dressed for action. The most interesting of these MSU players missing is definitely senior center Matt Allen.

Allen was the starter heading into the season and in the Pinstripe Bowl last year, so it’s a surprise that he is currently seen in sweats on the sidelines. It is unclear if this is due to injury at this time, although the fact that he is undressed would allude to that. However, he also didn’t have a great game against Rutgers.

Sophomore Nick Samac will get the start instead. Samac started four games last year when Allen was injured.

Other notable inactives: RB Anthony Williams Jr., LB Marcel Lewis, WR Laress Nelson, OL Luke Campbell, OL Devontae Dobbs

Michigan State Football center Matt Allen named to Rimington Trophy Watchlist

Michigan State Football center Matt Allen has been named to the Rimington Trophy watchlist, given to the top center in the country.

[jwplayer 1tjDKyFK]

The Big Ten Football season is back! Which means watchlist season is also back! The latest Michigan State Football player to make a positional watchlist is center Matt Allen, who was named to the Rimington Trophy Watchlist.

The Rimington Trophy is given to the nation’s top center and named after Nebraska legend Dave Rimington. The Rimington Award was created in the early 2000s because there was no specific award to be given to the center position, which is a vital position in any offense. Rimington himself had won the Outland Trophy twice, which is given to interior linemen, but not specifically centers.

Matt Allen is a redshirt senior who will enter the season as one MSU’s top players and leaders.
