Lions inactives for the NFC Championship game: James Houston will play

Lions inactives for the NFC Championship game: James Houston will play

James Houston is active for the NFC Championship game. No sense in burying the lead story.

For the first time since breaking his ankle in Week 2, Lions EDGE James Houston is active for a game. He is poised to take the field for Detroit in San Francisco against the 49ers.

The Lions had two players previously ruled out on the final injury list with injuries in left guard Jonah Jackson and wide receiver/return specialist Kalif Raymond. Third-string QB Hendon Hooker is also inactive but listed as the emergency QB option. Hooker was questionable with a tooth malady.

The healthy scratches feature several of the usual suspects:

  • CB Steven Gilmore
  • DT Brodric Martin
  • S Tracy Walker
  • EDGE Charles Harris

Lions inactives vs. Buccaneers: James Houston will not play

Lions inactives vs. Buccaneers: James Houston will not play while Sam LaPorta is active

There was one big question lingering over the Detroit Lions and their inactive player list for Sunday’s playoff matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Would James Houston be active?

Detroit activated Houston from injured reserve during the week, but the second-year pass rusher was listed as questionable for the NFC Divisional Round game with the ankle injury that has kept him sidelined since September.

And it will continue to keep Houston out. He’s one of the seven inactive Lions for the game.

Houston and Kalif Raymond are the injury-related inactive players. Tight end Sam LaPorta was listed as questionable but he will play.

Packers CB Jaire Alexander active, RB A.J. Dillon inactive vs. 49ers in NFC Divisional Round

The Green Bay Packers won’t have running back A.J. Dillon for the third consecutive game but cornerback Jaire Alexander is active for Matt LaFleur’s team in the NFC Divisional Round vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.

The Green Bay Packers won’t have running back A.J. Dillon for the third consecutive game but cornerback Jaire Alexander is active for Matt LaFleur’s team in the NFC Divisional Round vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.

Dillon is still recovering from a stinger in his neck. Without his top backup available again, running back Aaron Jones could easily hit 20 or more carries for the fifth straight game.

Alexander will play through an ankle injury for the second consecutive week. He reinjured the ankle against the Dallas Cowboys last week and missed practices on Wednesday and Thursday, but he’s available for the Packers at Levi’s Stadium. Alexander had a huge interception of Dak Prescott in the first half last Sunday.

Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and punter Daniel Whelan are both active despite questionable designations. Of the four players listed with playing status designations, only Dillon is inactive.

Receiver Malik Heath, safety Benny Sapp III, outside linebacker Brenton Cox Jr. and offensive tackle Caleb Jones are healthy scratches.

Rookie Keshawn Banks, a practice squad call-up, is active over Cox, who has been on the 53-man roster all season. Banks will help replace Kingsley Enagbare, who is inactive after suffering a significant knee injury last week.

Packers inactives

18 WR Malik Heath
28 RB AJ Dillon
48 S Benny Sapp III
55 LB Kingsley Enagbare
57 LB Brenton Cox Jr.
72 T Caleb Jones

49ers inactives

QB Brandon Allen
OL Matt Pryor
WR Ronnie Bell
LB Jalen Graham
CB Samuel Womack III
DL Alex Barrett
DL T.Y. McGill

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles, questionable) is active for the 49ers.

49ers inactives: LB Dre Greenlaw will play vs. Packers

The #49ers have no players ruled out due to injury vs. the Packers.

The 49ers don’t have any players ruled out due to injury for their divisional playoff matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw was listed as questionable on Thursday’s injury report with an Achilles issue. He will suit up Saturday night.

Here are the team’s inactives:

QB Brandon Allen (3rd QB)
LB Jalen Graham
OL Matt Pryor
WR Ronnie Bell
CB Sam Womack
DL Alex Barrett
DL T.Y. McGill

Barrett and McGill were both elevated to the active roster Saturday before the game. They’ll now get a full game check despite not suiting up, which is likely a key reason why the team elevated them without intending to play them.

Lions inactive players vs. Rams: Sam LaPorta is active

Lions inactive players vs. Rams: Sam LaPorta is active for the wild card game

All eyes were on No. 87 in blue as the Detroit Lions warmed up in Ford Field for Sunday night’s wild card matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. The status of All-Pro rookie tight end Sam LaPorta and his wounded knee was the biggest pre-game question mark on the Lions’ health front.

After going through warmups in the stadium, LaPorta showed enough to make sure he was active for the game.

The Lions inactive players:

OLB Charles Harris

CB Steven Gilmore

WR Kalif Raymond (injured)

S Tracy Walker

OLB Julian Okwara

DT Brodric Martin

QB Hendon Hooker (emergency QB)

Wild-card Inactives: Cowboys’ Trey Lance not up, Packers’ Alexander and Watson to play

The Cowboys and Packers are near full strength for the wild card matchup as key corners are active and AJ Dillon is out for Green Bay. | From @CDBurnett7

It’s all hands on deck for the wild-card round. The Dallas Cowboys have been battling an illness as a team for the last month. On Saturday, backup quarterback Cooper Rush became the latest to be impacted, being a late addition to the injury report. He’s apparently recovered well enough to be active as Dak Prescott’s backup. Trey Lance will be inactive as the emergency third quarterback yet again.

As for their opponents, the Green Bay Packers are without running back A.J. Dillon. Wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) and cornerback Jaire Alexander (anle)are both active after being game-time decisions and listed as questionable this week. Cowboys-Packers kicks off at 3:30 p.m., and here’s the full list of inactives ahead of kickoff.

CB Jaire Alexander, WR Christian Watson both ACTIVE for Packers vs. Cowboys

The Packers will have Jaire Alexander vs. the Cowboys, and Christian Watson is returning from a hamstring injury. More on the inactives for Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers won’t have running back A.J. Dillon, but cornerback Jaire Alexander and receiver Christian Watson are both active for Sunday’s NFC Wild Card Round showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

Alexander and Watson were both questionable to play. Alexander will play through an ankle injury suffered midweek, while Watson is returning after missing five games with a hamstring injury.

Both worked out pre-game and got the clearance to play against the Cowboys.

Dillon injured his neck — suffering a stinger — during the Packers’ win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 and will miss his second straight game.

Alexander will be vital to stopping the Cowboys’ top ranked scoring offense. Watson, who caught touchdown passes in three straight games before his injury, could provide a spark on the turf in Dallas, even in a limited role.

The Packers have five healthy scratches on the inactive list. Both receiver Malik Heath and cornerback David Long Jr. are inactive, so the Packers must have some level of confidence in Watson and Alexander making it through Sunday’s game.

The Packers and Cowboys are scheduled for a 3:40 p.m. kickoff from AT&T Stadium.
