Former Wisconsin WR Markus Allen announces next school

Former Wisconsin WR Markus Allen announces next school

Former Wisconsin football wide receiver Markus Allen officially announced his next school on Thursday.

He was with Wisconsin this past spring, but ultimately decided to enter the portal over the summer as the new coaching regime came in.

Allen will be heading to a notable community college program that has produced NFL talent in the past and is often a good stepping stone back to a great opportunity. He will head to Kansas to play for Butler Community College, which has produced notable professional names such as Demarcus Lawrence and Michael Gallup among others.

Allen will head to Kansas with three years of eligibility.

BREAKING: Badger wide receiver enters transfer portal… again

As the 2023 Badger football season closes in, the team has seen a few departures over the last week and there was another announcement Friday.

As the much-anticipated 2023 Badger football season closes in, the team has seen a few departures over the last week or so and there was another one announced Friday. After two seasons with Wisconsin, wide receiver Markus Allen will be entering the transfer portal.

This is the second time that Allen has entered the transfer portal, having done so last fall following the firing of head coach Paul Chryst, ultimately returning to Madison after Luke Fickell took over. Now operating in a crowded WR room with Wisconsin after the team added multiple wideouts via transfer moves, including C.J. Williams (USC) and Bryson Green (Oklahoma State).

Pair that with the off the field legal issues he’s been dealing with, Allen will look for a fresh start elsewhere. He’ll finish his UW career with 10 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown over eight games during his two campaigns in Madison.

Wisconsin wide receiver enters the transfer portal

The Allen story took many twists and turns at Wisconsin

Wisconsin’s crowded and talented wide receiver room got one spot thinner today. Junior Markus Allen announced his plans to re-enter the transfer portal, that after initially entering last October and opting to return to school in December.

The Allen story took many twists and turns at Wisconsin. The Ohio native flipped his high school commitment from Michigan to the Badgers, joining Paul Chryst’s loaded class of 2021. He then played in eight games over two seasons in Madison, tallying 10 total receptions for 156 yards and one touchdown. That second season was cut short in mid-October, as Allen initially entered the transfer portal after Wisconsin fired Chryst.

As if there weren’t too many twists already, Allen committed to Minnesota out of the portal in late November as Wisconsin was hiring Luke Fickell. On December 9 of that year, he decommitted from the Gophers and decided to return to Madison, where he ended up spending spring practice before re-entering the portal.

Wisconsin’s wide receiver room now consists of Chimere Dike, C.J. Williams, Keontez Lewis, Will Pauling, Bryson Green, Skyler Bell, Quincy Burroughs, Tommy McIntosh, Vinny Anthony and others.

Wisconsin WR Markus Allen enters the transfer portal

A Wisconsin Badgers reserve WR has entered his name into the Transfer Portal:

Madison, Wis.– Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Markus Allen, whose been with the program for the past two seasons, announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Sunday evening.

Allen took to Twitter to announce his decision:

“First want to thank everyone in the Wisconsin Football program for everything they’ve done up to this point. For helping me academically and athletically form the strength staff all the way down to the trainers. Truly love the bonds I’ve made with he great people and the memories with brothers. Thank you Coach Chryst & the Coaching Staff for giving me an opportunity at the University of Wisconsin. With that being said I would like to announce that I have officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. With 3 years remaining of NCAA Eligibility.”

Per the 247Sports composite, Allen was the No. 380 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, the No. 61 WR in the country, and the No. 10 player in Ohio.

Allen, a former three-star prospect, appeared in eight games for the Badgers, registering 10 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown.

With the 6-foot-1, 215-pound wideout leaving the program, he becomes the third player to enter the transfer portal since Paul Chryst was fired as head coach, joining Deacon Hill and Logan Brown, respectively.

Allen had fallen behind Chimere Dike, Skyler Bell, and Keontez Lewis on the depth chart, making a clear path to playing time uncertain moving forward.

The Ohio native has three years of eligibility remaining.

Predicting Wisconsin football’s superlatives for the 2022 season

BadgersWire forecasts our expected superlatives for Wisconsin during the 2022 college football season:

Madison, Wis. – An underwhelming 9-4 season where Wisconsin football failed to win the Big Ten West for the second straight year led to wholesale changes along the coaching staff this offseason.

With fall camp in full swing and Wisconsin’s season opener against the Illinois State Redbirds just around the corner, the Badgers, who are the Big Ten West favorites in 2022, will have a much different look this fall.

UW hired new offensive coordinator Bobby Engram, who joins the program after eight seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He’ll attempt to reinvigorate a sputtering Wisconsin offense and is working to make opponents defend the entire field in 2022.

On defense, Jim Leonhard lost eight preferred starters from last season’s top-ranked defense. However, the cupboards in Madison are far from bare, and a new batch of players is hungry to uphold the program’s standard of excellence.

With the season opener just around the corner, I decided to follow in the footsteps of former BadgersWire great Ben Kenney and explore my expected superlatives for Wisconsin during the 2022 college football season.

Take a look at some of Wisconsin football’s new fre

Earlier this week, Wisconsin football took its player photos for the upcoming season and some Badgers released their personal favorites on social media.

There were several cool previews for next season in the posts, including the first look at some of Wisconsin’s incoming freshmen and transfers fully suited up in their uniforms. A photo from running back Braelon Allen also shows Chez Mellusi wearing No. 1 compared to being No. 6 last year.

Even though it is not quite fall camp yet, seeing the players in their uniforms makes me anticipate Wisconsin’s opener against Illinois State on Sept. 3 even more.

Here are some of the Badgers’ player photos for the upcoming 2022 season:

The Wisconsin Badgers’ passing attack was underwhelming last season, and unfortunately, forced the Badgers to become one-dimensional and overreliant on the run against tough Big Ten defenses.

Tight end Jake Ferguson was the most consistent threat for the Badgers’ passing attack and provided an often-needed escape valve for quarterback Graham Mertz when he was under pressure.

Another bright spot from last season is the emergence and development of younger receivers who will be replacing the core of Danny Davis, Kendric Pryor and Jack Dunn. Junior WR Chimere Dike will take over as the primary receiver after finishing with 272 receiving yards and a touchdown last season.

Redshirt freshman Markus Allen will likely be in a starting role, and with luck, will expand upon the flashes he showed with big catches against Rutgers and Arizona State late in the season.

Hopefully, after struggling the last two years in the passing game, the addition of new receivers and offensive coordinator Bobby Engram will help revive the Wisconsin passing game.

Wisconsin’s freshman wide receivers flash their potential in Las Vegas Bowl win

The Badger freshman showed flashes on Thursday

With an additional year of COVID-19 eligibility under their belts, Wisconsin’s senior wide receivers Danny Davis III and Kendric Pryor were able to return for one final campaign in 2021.

While it helped the Badgers in the short-term to have experienced leaders in the room, it was hard not to wonder what was brewing at the future of the position.

Wisconsin brought in a loaded 2021 class, both in general and specifically at the wide receiver position. The highest-rated Badger class in the modern recruiting era showed up in multiple facets of the game on Thursday night, but perhaps the most fun flashes came from the wide receiver position.

It started on just the third Wisconsin play of the evening as Markus Allen hauled in a 31-yard grab to set up the first Badger touchdown of the night. Allen was previously committed to Michigan before choosing Wisconsin, and the 6-foot-2 target showed a glimpse of his future on the biggest Badger pass play of the evening.

Then it was Skyler Bell’s turn to make a play. The true freshman was on the receiving end of one of Graham Mertz’s best plays of the night. The Kansas native rolled left and found Bell across his body for a massive first down.

Bell and Allen will be thrown into bigger roles next season after playing behind Wisconsin’s seniors, and you can expect them to be ready.
