After the addition of three-star wide receiver Markus Allen on Friday, Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin Badgers have cemented their 2021 class as the best in program history.

The class sits at No. 16 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten, and now boasts top-end talent at nearly every meaningful position you can think of.

There’s five-star offensive tackle Nolan Rucci, four-star offensive tackles J.P. Benzschawel and Riley Mahlman, four-star defensive end T.J. Bollers, four-star safeties Braelon Allen and Hunter Wohler, four-star tight end Jack Pugh, four-star quarterback Deacon Hill and more.

Back in July I went through the recruiter rankings in the Big Ten conference and listed out where each Badger assistant stood.

Now, after adding even more big names to the class, here is where each Badger assistant now stands in the 247Sports Big Ten recruiter rankings:

Why the 2021 class is the best in Wisconsin football history

Earlier today the Wisconsin Badgers added to their impressive class of 2021 by landing a commitment from three-star wide receiver Markus Allen, a player who had previously committed to play for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

The addition of Allen moved the class to No. 16 in the nation and kept it as the third-best in the Big Ten conference.

The 2021 group has been impressive for months now, but it’s reached the point where we can officially call it the best the program has ever had.

Here’s why.

First, the class has a five-star in offensive tackle Nolan Rucci, three No. 1 players in their states, two stud wide receivers, a lethal in-state safety duo, a four-star quarterback and more.

Imagine the group on the football field: a five-star and two four-stars on the offensive line, a four-star and three-star at defensive end, a four-star and three-star at linebacker, two four-stars at safety, a four-star quarterback, a four-star tight end, two slept on three-stars at wide receiver, a crop of three-star running backs and two under-the-radar three-star cornerbacks.

The Badgers always have the culture, coaching and consistency to compete with the nation’s best. Now with top-end talent, the sky will be the limit for this team in the coming years.

Second, here is the 2021 group compared to the program’s recent classes:

  • 2021: No. 16 in the nation, No. 3 in the Big Ten, one five-star, seven four-stars, 12 three-stars, 0.8905 average rating
  • 2020: No. 26 in the nation, No. 5 in the Big Ten, no five-stars, five four-stars, 15 three-stars, 0.8783 average rating
  • 2019: No. 29 in the nation, No. 6 in the Big Ten, one five-star, two four-stars, 16 three-stars, 0.8786 average rating
  • 2018: No. 46 in the nation, No. 9 in the Big Ten, no five-stars, one four-star, 19 three-stars, 0.8648 average rating
  • 2017: No. 39 in the nation, No. 7 in the Big Ten, no five-stars, two four-stars, 15 three-stars, one two-star, 0.8582 average rating

You get the idea. Since 247Sports began tracking recruiting there has not been another class that has broken the nation’s top-20, let alone boast the versatility and volume of talent that the 2021 group has.

Yes, it obviously needs to play out on the field. But If you’re a Badger fan there is reason for optimism moving forward into the coming years and beyond.

How Wisconsin’s 2021 commits reacted to the Badgers landing WR Markus Allen

The Badgers land Markus Allen: Here is how commit reacted

The Badgers made a major 2021 splash by solidifying one of the only positions that lacked solid depth in their class. Three-star WR Markus Allen committed to Wisconsin just moments ago, and he has the entire class amped up on Twitter:

Take his potential future QB, 2021 Wisconsin commit Deacon Pe’a Hill as an example:

Allen’s fellow WR commit in the class of 2021, three-star commit Skyler Bell, is also ready to get to work with his new future teammate.

This offense looks dangerous:

Fellow Ohio native and 2021 Wisconsin commit Darryl Peterson is ready for another Ohio to Wisconsin journey:

Breaking: Wisconsin flips a former 2021 Michigan WR commit

The Badgers land a major Michigan flip in 2021

The Badgers got a major 2021 boost to what is already widely considered the best modern recruiting class in Wisconsin history. Wisconsin flipped a 2021 former Michigan commit and has boosted their 2021 receiving corps in the process.

2021 Ohio native Markus Allen has officially committed to the Badgers.

After initially committing to Michigan on April 28, 2020, Allen decided to decommit from the Wolverines a number of months later in September.

The Badgers have now solidified a position group that lacked depth just a few months ago. Allen joins Skyler Bell as the two recent Wisconsin WR commits in a stacked 2021 class. Even better, they turned a Michigan loss into a Wisconsin gain in the process.

Three-star 2021 wide receiver with a Wisconsin offer decommits from Michigan

It was well-documented that before Paul Chryst and his staff landed three-star wide receiver Skyler Bell they were without a receiver in their extremely impressive class of 2021.

Well, three-star Markus Allen–one of their main targets at the receiver position–announced yesterday that he was decomitting from Michigan and re-opening his recruitment.

The Clayton, Ohio native is the No. 455 player in the class of 2021, the No. 68 wide receiver and the No. 14 player from his home state of Ohio.

247Sports currently has Cincinnnati as one of the favorites to land Allen though other teams on his offer list include Indiana, Michigan State, West Virginia and Purdue.

With his recruitment now open, Allen quickly took to Twitter to show off his talent and open himself back up to potential destinations.

Also taking to Twitter last night to give thoughts on the decommitment, continuing the recent trend of Wisconsin commits recruiting fellow players via social media, was four-star 2022 linebacker/safety Braelon Allen.

The Badgers’ class of 2021 currently stands at No. 16 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten after landing five-star offensive tackle Nolan Rucci on Tuesday. The potential addition of Markus Allen would only help the class as the program looks to get over the hump and win their first Big Ten title since 2012.

2021 WR decommits from Michigan

The Wolverines lose one of four 2021 wideouts pledged to the class.

And then there were 20.

Michigan football is bringing in an impressive wide receiver haul in 2021, no matter which way you slice it, but after having four players committed, it’s now down to three.

Though California speedsters Xavier Worthy and Cristian Dixon are the crown jewels of, not only the position, but also the class, 2021 Clayton (OH) Northmont three-star wideout Markus Allen has a lot more potential than his rankings. However, it seems as if he’ll look to find a new home, as he announced on Wednesday that he is reopening his recruitment and recommitting from Michigan.

His teammate, safety Rod Moore, is still pledged to the class.

Michigan also has another wideout committed in East Lansing (MI) three-star Andrel Anthony, who pledged to the Wolverines over rival MSU.

Sometimes stars don’t matter. And for Michigan, that’s a good thing.

Rated a three-star by the recruiting services, Wolverines 2021 commit Markus Allen, a wide receiver from Clayton (Ohio) Northmont put on a show in his high school season debut. Allen tallied nine pass receptions for 102 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night. His final score was the go-ahead touchdown with 9 seconds remaining in the game.

Not only was it a big play, but it was crunch time. Northmont faced a fourth-and-19 — otherwise Allen and teammate Rod Moore (the safety who is also committed to Michigan) would have been going home with a one in the loss column.

From the Dayton Daily News:

Allen caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rice in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7 and then a 2-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to break a 21-21 halftime tie.

Allen’s ninth and final catch gave him 102 receiving yards.

“It was amazing,” said Allen, who had 15 touchdown receptions last season. “My quarterback just happened to roll out, and I saw him roll out. I was like, ’Let me go across the field.’ He just happened to see me in the back of the end zone. I had to secure the catch and just let it come into my body.”

Allen is rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 453 player in the country, regardless of position. But if he keeps playing like this, he’s certain to fly up the rankings.

‘This will be changed’ – Michigan commits predict role reversal vs. Ohio State

Two incoming Wolverines intimate that they won’t have the same issues as their predecessors in trying to beat Ohio State.

[jwplayer wz1YmyQu-XNcErKyb]

Given Michigan’s trouble going back to 2004 and forward against Ohio State, it’s a bold thing for incoming players to shoot their shot verbally and guarantee future victories over the Buckeyes.

But that’s precisely what two commits are doing.

Taking to Twitter and posting a graphic that shows the imbalance in the rivalry — Michigan has won but one game in the past 10 years in 2011 (actually, that’s the sole victory since the win in 2003) — Clayton (OH) Northmont three-star wide receiver Markus Allen feels confident that things will look different for the maize and blue vs. the scarlet and grey in the future. He added to the graphic ‘this will be changed,’ indicating that he expects a reversal of fortunes between the two storied programs.

While it makes sense for a student-athlete from Ohio to hold animosity towards the Buckeyes, it wasn’t just Allen who posted the graphic with a little bit of fortune-telling involved.

Cristian Dixon is a four-star wideout from the storied Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei program, and he had some words of his own to go along with the same graphic, noting ‘remember I posted this.’

Naturally, if Michigan doesn’t turn the tide in the coming years, it won’t just be Ohio State fans who will remember, but so, too, will the maize and blue faithful.

Regardless, it continues to be an uphill battle against the Buckeyes in recent years. The Wolverines’ commanding lead in the all-time record has all but evaporated, with Michigan holding just a seven-game advantage now at 58-51-6. Long runs aren’t unheard of in The Game — when OSU had Jon Cooper at the helm, the Buckeyes went 2-10-1 in 13 years — but this recent span has seen Michigan go 1-15 against Ohio State.

The aforementioned two aren’t the only current Michigan commits who have had something to say about their future rival. Incoming offensive tackle Tristan Bounds appeared on E.J. Holland’s podcast in June and stated his thoughts on his turn in the series once he gets his chance.

“After I take a couple days to take it in and realize what I really just did, and that’s commit to one of the best universities in the country as well as a football powerhouse, I’m definitely going to get on the recruiting trail hard,” Bounds said on The Wolverine Podcast. “I’ve been pretty adamant about this. I don’t want to lose any games. I want to win national championships. I want to kick the [expletive deleted] out of Ohio State. Those are my goals. The best class that we can get is going to help us do that.”

Currently, Ohio State is fielding the top-rated class in the 2021 recruiting cycle, with four five-stars, 12 four-stars and three three-stars. Michigan is rated No. 9 with 20 commits, including one five-star, 10 four-stars and nine three-stars.

Michigan adds emerging 2021 WR

The Wolverines received their eleventh commitment on Tuesday.

[jwplayer 0SOr3k2A-XNcErKyb]
Make it eleven for Michigan.

On Tuesday, the Wolverines garnered yet another commitment, one that’s been a long time coming at that, and from the state of Ohio.

2021 Clayton (OH) Northmont wide receiver Markus Allen is rated the No. 494 prospect in the country, regardless of position according to the 247Sports Composite, the 83rd-best WR and No. 20 player in the state of Ohio.

Long considered a Michigan lean, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound wideout ended his recruitment, committing to the maize and blue over offers from MSU, Kentucky, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

He is the eleventh commitment for the Wolverines in 2021, as Michigan maintains the No. 10 class nationally.

3-Star WR Markus Allen lists Michigan State Football in his top 10 choices

3-Star Ohio WR Markus Allen lists Michigan State football as one of his top 10 choices today. Read more details about this high school WR.

Michigan State football recruiting is in full swing right now thanks to new coach Mel Tucker. Now, 3-Star WR Markus Allen lists Michigan State in his top 10 choices. Markus Allen graduates from Xenia High School in 2021. Allen stands at 6’2″ and weighs 190-pounds. Note, he broke the Xenia High School record for most touchdowns in a season.

In his High School career, Allen tallied up 51 receptions, 1,099 yards, and 15 touchdowns. Markus Allen listed other Big Ten teams including Purdue, Wisconsin, and Michigan in his top ten choices. So he might just end up on a rival Big Ten team if not Michigan State. He also listed Pittsburgh in his top ten, which means Patt Narduzzi just might land an impressive Ohio WR.

We will continue to provide more recruiting news as it drops here at SpartansWire.
