Report: Wide receiver Kennedy Lewis enters transfer portal

According to multiple reports, wide receiver Kennedy Lewis is no longer with the Longhorns. He has also entered the transfer portal.

Texas’ wide receiver room has gone under some changes since Steve Sarkisian took over. Four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy brought speed after flipping from Michigan. The Longhorns will be looking for the same going forward in recruiting and through the transfer portal.

Just as the portal gives, it also takes away. Multiple players have already transferred out of Austin, moving onto other Power Five programs. USC has taken a trio of Longhorns in Keaontay Ingram, Xavion Alford, and Malcolm Epps.

On Tuesday, the transfer portal took away from Texas again.

According to 247Sports, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Kennedy Lewis is no longer with the team. He is no longer listed on the official team roster either.

Shortly after, Insider Texas confirmed Lewis had entered the transfer portal. He is the first wide receiver the Longhorns will lose after Sarkisian’s first year of spring practice.

In two seasons with Texas, Lewis only appeared in two games. He made his singular career catch against Rice in 2019 for 37 yards.

Per the 247Sports composite, Lewis was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. He ranked as the No. 650 player and the No. 83 wide receiver in the country. The Melissa, Texas native was the No. 79 in-state player of the 2019 class.

Stolhandske spent three years with the Texas Longhorns football team. He was named All-SWC End and All-American in 1952. He averaged 15.6 yards per catch over his career with 64 total receptions. However, according to sports-reference, Stolhandske is credited with 61 receptions and a 15.7 yards per reception average. In 1952 he hauled in 30 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns. Stolhandske would finish with 61 receptions for 955 yards and eight touchdowns. Texas won the SWC Championships in 1950 and 1952. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1952.

Malcolm Epps (2018-current)

Currently wide receiver/tight end Malcolm Epps wears number 85. Last season due to injuries at the position, Epps was moved outside due to his size. He finished the year with 20 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Epps touchdown receptions against Iowa State helped the Longhorns comeback late in the game. The catch gave them the lead but ultimately the Cyclones found a way to win the game as time expired. He will be more focused at tight end this year.

Bleacher Report: Way-Too-Early predictions for 2020-21 Transfer Portal

Bleacher Reports’ Tyler Brooke has come out with his list of potential transfer portal players. On that list is wide receiver Kennedy Lewis.

The transfer portal has been a hot button topic since it was introduced 2018. Players can enter the transfer portal much like professional athletes enter free agency, with the new proposed rule for transfers likely will lead to more players entering the portal in the future.

Over the last couple of years since the introduction has seen some big name players make the move. Players like Jalen Hurts who left Alabama to take the vacant quarterback spot when Kyler Murray left for the NFL. Justin Fields also used the portal to head to Ohio State to play immediately rather than waiting on Jake Fromm to leave for the NFL or graduate.

B/R writer Tyler Brooke has come with an early prediction for several names that could be looking to make the jump into the transfer portal. One name with Texas ties is wide receiver Kennedy Lewis. Lewis recently made headlines as he was temporarily suspended by the team. His name has really been lost in the shuffle at the position.

With the losses of Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay to the NFL, the team will have holes to fill at the position. Lewis will be entering his third season on the forty acres and really hasn’t been a name tied to the receiver battle. Jake Smith, Brennan Eagles and Joshua Moore are the top names that don’t include the upcoming class.

It would make sense for Lewis to look to leave the program after the season if he doesn’t find a way to get on the field for Tom Herman and new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Report: Kennedy Lewis Temporarily Suspended

Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman wide receiver Kennedy Lewis has been temporarily suspended for the spring but could rejoin in June.

According to a report from Anwar Richardson, Kennedy Lewis has been temporarily suspended. He is expected to rejoin the team in June but he will miss all of spring practice. Lewis had one reception this past season against Rice for 37 yards.

It is unclear at this time what Lewis did to earn the suspension from the team but this definitely doesn’t help matters at the position. The team is looking to find some clarity with who will play wide receiver for the upcoming season. The spring would have been a great opportunity for Lewis to impress the new offensive staff.

More details to come as they are presented.
